Public holiday racing this Monday in Sydney will take place at Warwick Farm. The weather is fine, the track is good (3) and the rail is out five metres from the 1000m-Winning Post; Out three metres for the remainder.
Race One (13:20) : Pluck @ Vinery Plate 1300m:
Back Me: 2 Crystal Flute (Best Odds: $1.75) is one of the better maidens in training at the moment. Her form last time in includes placings behind Lady Sniper and Ghisoni…that aside, her trials have been sharp. Bringing the form back in, how does she lose?
Big Danger: 5 Make A Ripple (Best Odds: $3.20) debuted over 1200m here a couple of weeks back and closed off strongly when second to Sonic Swish, who ran fourth to Federal on Saturday, so the form reads very well for a maiden and this horse has upside.
Roughie: 3 Libby Tickets (Best Odds: $12.00) ran at Goulburn a tick under three weeks back and closed off alright but just died on the run when running third. Back on her home track now and draws a soft gate, so she can sharply improve.
Race Two (13:55) : Tab.com.au Plate 1300m:
Back Me: 7 Most Exalted (Best Odds: $1.90) resumes here for James Cummings. He had some really good form last time when in work, and I loved his recent trial where he cruised along on speed under no pressure at all. The one to beat.
Big Danger: 10 Red Extension (Best Odds: $4.00) debuted at Hawkesbury a tick under three weeks ago and closed off strongly behind Manhattan Chic. With natural improvement off that here, she can measure up and be a threat.
Roughie: 12 Tahsin (Best Odds: $17.00) debuted at Beaumont and stuck to the task pretty well I thought when running third to Lomazzo. Has to improve a bit to feature here, but she looks talented and draws to stalk and ambush out wide.
Race Three (14:35) : McGrath Handicap (72) 2400m:
Back Me: 2 Supercoach (Best Odds: $2.80) is loving his racing at the moment, with his last outing resulting in a win in the Stayers Cup at Kembla Grange. Harder here, but he is tough and is in a rich vein of form so I’ll go with him here.
Big Danger: 5 Spanish Stride (Best Odds: $4.20) is a handy stayer that drops to this level after being outclassed in the Rosehill Guineas behind Tarzino. Takes on the older horses, which isn’t easy, but don’t dismiss.
Roughie: 4 Pico Turquino (Best Odds: $3.80) is an absolute nightmare to follow, but there were good signs last time out at Gosford (metro) behind stablemate Nows The Time. On ability, she’d spank these, and this looks a very winnable race.
Race Four (15:10) : Tab Rewards Handicap (72) 1400m:
Back Me: 9 Old Habits (Best Odds: $51.00) has been very disappointing this time in. He resumed in the Country Championship qualifier at Goulburn and didn’t let down at all behind Lofty’s Menu. He then ran on Canberra Cup Day and was just fair behind Hermosa Beach. He can sharply improve now he is getting fitter.
Big Danger: 1 Star Wars (Best Odds: $3.50) ran over 1300m at this track last time out and produced a lovely turn of foot to win impressively. This race doesn’t look much harder and can repeat the dose despite the weight.
Roughie: 3 Nat King Cu (Best Odds: $4.20) ran along in front in the National Sprint at Canberra and just felt the pinch late when fourth to Cosmic Cube. With a softer time of it here, he can take some beating here for sure at a price.
Race Five (15:45) : Schweppes Handicap (67) 1600m:
Back Me: 2 Admiral Jello (Best Odds: $8.00) ran over the mile at Hawkesbury last time out and tried hard but couldn’t quite reel in Bit Of Cheek. Was due to run in the Tulloch on the weekend but didn’t gain a start. He can win this for sure.
Big Danger: 6 Falkenberg (Best Odds: $1.85) won well first up before racing at the track/distance when a close up second to the above average Happy Hannah, who ran a cracker in the Vinery on Saturday. That tough effort should see him better off here and prove tough to hold out.
Roughie: 5 Sacred Surfer (Best Odds: $9.00) resumed over 1350m at Beaumont-Newcastle where he sat on speed and tried hard when running second to the Stakes performed Queen Of Wands, who won on Wednesday at Canberra to frank the form. Second up at the mile looks ideal.
Race Six (16:25) : Hyland Race Colours Handicap (78) 1200m:
Back Me: 5 Suspense (Best Odds: $3.00) is an above average type for Team Snowden who is unbeaten in three outings. Hasn’t raced for a couple of months but did look sharp in a recent trial behind handy three year old Montauk. Just has to overcome the tricky gate to be the one.
Big Danger: 2 She’s Miss Divine (Best Odds: $3.40) creates plenty of this interest. This former Queensland mare is now with Chris Waller and she looks spot on to run fresh after a very impressive trial behind Two Blue, who ran well fresh. Draws well, claim…hard to beat.
Roughie: 8 Capitano (Best Odds: $5.00) is a quality sprinter from the bush who showed a sharp turn of foot to win the Armidale Newmarket last time out. Harder here, but has placed in town and is right down in the weights after the claim.
Race Seven (17:10) : Tab More Than Just Winning Handicap (72) 1200m:
Back Me: 9 Bells Of War (Best Odds: $10.00) ran over 1300m here last time out and was a little unlucky behind Ravi given she was held up at a critical point when appearing to travel well. Claim for Adkins helps and she draws to stalk and swoop.
Big Danger: 4 Butterboom (Best Odds: $3.20) resumes here for Joe Pride off the back of a couple of sharp trials here on her home track. Ran well when produced fresh last time in and I like the fact that Macca rides.
Roughie: 8 Princess Command (Best Odds: $18.00) is a bit of a gay deceiver, but she is an honest type for Marc Conners. Yet to run a decent beyond 1100m in 21 goes, which is a major negative, but she does draw to stalk and when right, she has a lovely turn of foot.
Race Eight (17:45) : Pro-Ride Handicap (78) 1600m:
Back Me: 10 Steamin’ (Best Odds: $8.50) ran over the mile at Doomben last time out and was galloped on in the run so there were excuses behind Heart Of A Warrior in what has turned out to be a strong for, race. Home track and Avdulla is back aboard.
Big Danger: 7 Wine ‘N’ Dine (Best Odds: $13.00) didn’t pull up 100% after failing behind Multifacets, who ran well in the Tulloch on the weekend. Has since trialled well and though he is impossible to trust, he can be a sharp improver.
Roughie: 1 Egyptian Ruler (Best Odds: $14.00) closed off strongly at bolters odds two back at Randwick when third to the well above average three year old Montaigne before stepping back in grade to win impressively the Quirindi Cup. Gives the impression he will appreciate the distance and stable knows when to bring them to town.
