Due to a lack of numbers for the three year old mile race, only seven races will be run and won at Morphettville on Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out ten metres from the 1200m-Winning Post; Out seven metres for the remainder.

Race One (14:18) : Schweppes Handicap (70) 1200m:
Back Me: 2 Vienna Miss (Bet Now: $5.50) had good market support late when resuming over 1050m here four weeks back and she wasn’t far away when fifth to French Rock, beaten 2.5L. That form held up well last Saturday, and with this filly, she will be much better suited at the 1200m and further. Knockout chance if they go hard.
Big Danger: 1 Chapel City (Bet Now: $2.70) ran over 1400m on the Parks track a fortnight back where he had a charmed sit behind the speed and fought on strongly but just missed out on picking up Peninsula Links in a deceptive finish. Back to 1200m looks perfect and there is no depth here at all. Big threat.
Long Shot: 5 So Skilled (Bet Now: $4.20) was backed late when debuting on the Parks track and the move almost came off as he presented wide on the turn and finished off strongly to just miss out on the win. Out of his grade here normally, but a field of five really helps his cause, and the debut effort was very good.
Race Two (14:53) : James Boags Premium Handicap (75) 1600m:
Back Me: 1 Deiheros (Bet Now: $6.50) contested an open handicap over this track/distance last Saturday and gee he looked to travel well in the run but he just couldn’t sprint with them when fourth to Jim’s Journey. Been a while since he has contested a race as easy as this, and he looks beautifully in at the weights.
Big Danger: 4 Boys Getaround Him (Bet Now: $6.50) is racing quite consistently this time in but just can’t quite crack it for a win. He ran over 1350m at Strathalbyn last time out where he had a nice sit off the tempo but couldn’t finish it off with purpose when fourth to Letmedowngently. That was his first run in several weeks, so he has upside and draws well again.
Long Shot: 2 Not So Lady Like (Bet Now: $8.00) resumed over 1250m on the Parks track a fortnight back and for a mare that will be suited over 2000m+, she was just in need of the run behind the Stakes performed Beautiful Flyer. Did run well second up last prep and gradually got better with each outing. If they go hard here, look for this mare late.
Race Three (15:28) : UBET Handicap (90) 1200m:
Back Me: 4 Strategic Demand (Bet Now: $1.80) is a horse who is absolutely low flying this time in for the Macdonald/Gluyas yard. He is on the back up after racing last Saturday over this track/distance in a much easier race but gee the way he lengthened was quite exciting and he won with a bit in reserve I suspect hence he is on the seven day turnaround. Despite the class rise, I think he just wins again.
Big Danger: 3 Chivalry (Bet Now: $3.70) had his first run for the Hayes/Dabernig team over 1200m at Caulfield three weeks back where he got back in the small field and finished his race off okay without threatening when sixth to Crystal Dreamer. He does race well second up, but he is an absolute nightmare to trust. Exotics yes, but I couldn’t back him to win.
Long Shot: Not so much a long shot given the lack of opposition but 1 Riziz (Bet Now: $4.40) looked to trial well at Gawler prior to resuming on the Parks track a fortnight back where he had a nice sit just off the speed and he tried very hard but was just no match late for another veteran, Karacatis. Got a really good second up record and does tend to save his best for this track.
Race Four (16:08) : Hughes Chauffeured Limousines Maiden Plate 1100m:
Back Me: 6 Sawaiki (Bet Now: $2.70) is a beautifully bred gelding who was being aimed towards the Magic Millions Maiden at the Gold Coast but didn’t make the final field. He resumed at Doomben and was very good in defeat given he was wide no cover for the trip and loomed to win the race but couldn’t quite go on with it. This looks a very winnable race for him if he finds his best.
Big Danger: 14 Taqaareed (Bet Now: $8.00) is a nice looking type that resumes for the Hayes/Dabernig team. He has only had the one raceday appearance, which came on the Geelong Synthetic in late August when running third to Katswiri, who has won a race and performed well in town since. Jump outs have been encouraging and stable is having a good run with their SA runners.
Long Shot: 7 Time Rogue (Bet Now: $23.00) is a Time Thief first starter for Richard Jolly. He hasn’t been seen since his lone trial, which came in early September when finishing down the track. obviously been given time to mature, and he does get the services of the Poon train. Will be interesting to see what the market does with this gelding.
Race Five (16:48) : Quayclean Handicap (82) 2040m:
Back Me: 4 Chestnut Charlie (Bet Now: $13.00) looks ready to win. Ran over 2000m in the Strathalbyn Cup last start where he was well off the leader and took a little while to get going, but his final 200m was very good behind the tearaway winner Ustinov’s Fury. This field isn’t strong and he gets in well at the weights after the claim. Ticks alot of boxes.
Big Danger: 6 Have Plenty (Bet Now: $2.90) bounced back to form last time out over 1950m on the Parks track when ridden absolute treat by Jason Holder, sitting just off the pace and pouncing at the right time to get a narrow victory on the board. Likes racing on the course proper and the 2000m looks ideal.
Long Shot: 5 Mobaco (Bet Now: $31.00) produced his best run for some time when racing over 2500m here last Saturday where led at a good tempo and did kick well into the straight but he just weakened the final 150m when fourth to Flying Casino. Not as much depth here, maps well, and with the hard 2500m run under the belt, he will be strong late here and is a knockout chance.
Race Six (17:26) : MAC: STOP DRUG DRIVING Handicap (70) 1200m:
Back Me: 6 Regal Spur (Bet Now: $3.20) has been a bit of a tease of me but I give him a super chance here. He ran over 1250m on the Parks track in that infamous race involving Josh Cartwright. Regal Spur sat near Murti throughout and tried hard but couldn’t quite reel him in. Draws well again and he finds a very winnable race. Gets his chance.
Big Danger: 7 Lord Topper (Bet Now: $8.50) is a horse in really good form at the moment for the Travis Doudle yard. He ran over 1100m here four weeks ago where I thought he stuck to the task really well in defeat when a close up third to the above average mare Alaskan Jade, who failed with excuses last week. Form prior was a tad patchy, but that last start got him back in the good books and he can definitely go on with it now.
Long Shot: 10 Freedom Road (Bet Now: $17.00) is a mare that is racing well at the moment but just can’t quite crack it for a win. She ran over 1400m on the Parks track a fortnight back where she had a nice sit near the speed and fought on quite well in defeat when fourth to Beautiful Flyer. Good record on the course proper and she is hard fit, plus back to 1200m looks ideal.
Race Seven (18:07) : Holdfast Insurance Handicap (64) 1800m:
Back Me: 8 Saturday Affair (Bet Now: $3.00) should have finished much closer to Optimize when racing over the mile here last Saturday, but unfortunately for her supporters, Jamie Kah made the wrong move of staying in instead of peeling wide and by the time she got clear, Optimize was greeting the judge. More depth here, but being third up, and off that soft run last week, she should have enormous upside left.
Big Danger: 13 Dawn Of Hope (Bet Now: $6.50) is a horse I am close to running out of patience with, but I will give her another look here. She looked to be bolting behind them last start over 1950m and once she presented, it looked game over, but as soon as she came off the bit, she paddled. If she can let down like she travels, it would be game over.
Long Shot: 9 Band Practice (Bet Now: $13.00) has been given a month freshen up since racing over this track/distance when sitting back in the run and coming with a well timed run to just miss out on picking up On A Dream. That is the best form for this race, but the query is of course the 28 day break. How fit will he be?
BEST BET: Race Seven Number 6 Saturday Affair
NEXT BEST: Race Three Number 4 Strategic Demand
