I think 2 Groundbreak (Bet Now:$2.15) can continue the picket fence here. Took care of them comfortably fresh to break the maiden at Hawkesbury before going to Wyong where he didn’t appear entirely happy on the tight track but he dug in under Avdulla and finished best. Harder here, but I think he can measure up and go close.
5 Memento (Bet Now:$5.50) comes back to benchmark grade after contesting the Reginald Allen here a fortnight back where I thought she was game in defeat and not far away behind Torvill. Won with a bit of quality start prior at Warwick Farm and she does come through blacktype form most recent compared to others with restricted form.
8 All Too Soon (Bet Now:$7.00) could be the improver here at odds.He resumed over 1400m at Kembla Grange without a trial and I thought he stuck to the task really well in defeat when third to Red Zephyr, and that form has been franked with the runner up Sweet Victory scoring a most impressive win on Thursday at Hawkesbury. Has run well on soft ground before and looks the overs.
Race 2. (13:35) Ford Civil Contracting Handicap (84) 1500m
9 I Am Serious (Bet Now:$2.60) looks a very good bet for mine. Just want decent odds for her and nothing silly, like she was last Wednesday at Canterbury. She wasn’t a $1.70 chance and just got there to win, but if you do watch the replay, she ran through the line strongly. 1500m on a big track looks ideal for her and if she gets clear running at the right time, she wins.
4 Awoke (Bet Now:$7.50) has been freshened up since racing at the Rosehill midweeks where she was a total forgive. Nearly fell at the top of the straight and from that point on, Bowman was kind to her. Back to the trials and won well last week. She’s hard to trust. But on her best form, she beats these. Just depends which mood she turns up in.
1 Just Dreaming (Bet Now:$6.00) is too good of a mare to dismiss off one poor run, and that is seemingly what it was first up over 1200m here three weeks back behind Chalk. She got back in the run and couldn’t really come on a day where it was difficult to make significant ground. Unbeaten second up, back to the mares grade and up to 1500m are all big ticks.
3 I Thought So (Bet Now:$4.20) is the best horse in the race but he can do a few things wrong and that has probably cost him both starts this time in. Last run was four weeks back over 1200m here where he ran a close up second to Isorich. I think back to 1000m is ideal, and if he does put it together, gee he will go close.
1 Tactical Advantage (Bet Now:$3.10) is a talented son that resumes for Joe Pride after formerly being with James Cummings. He is a very good horse on the fresh side and he looks tuned up to run well off the back of two trials, both of which have been run in decent time, so he’s been given a good grounding. Definite yard/market watch.
Bit hard to trust after what she did here a fortnight back, but if her manners are in order, 9 Machinegun Jubs (Bet Now:$11.00) is a great play here at odds. Talented sprinter for Angela Davies who is first up here since the latter part of the Autumn when she raced at Rosehill and finished midfield behind Kudero. Given one 735m trial to prepare for her return, but she looked very good, she flies fresh, and a bit of give in the track would help her big time.
10 Dia De Reyes (Bet Now:$4.40) on top in the Highway. Matty Dunn trained galloper who ran in a Highway over the mile here three weeks back and again he cost him dearly with a poor beginning which left him without much left for the straight. Won’t have to do as much work here from the inside gate and Collett is riding in super form.
11 Victory Red (Bet Now:$14.00) deserves a shot at a Highway. He won a couple of non tab events, both in sharp time, before racing at Tamworth where he was specked at longer odds and got the money after leading all the way. Drops to 50kg here, he handles all conditions, his tough, in form…I could make a case for him at a price.
2 Appoint Percy (Bet Now:$31.00) could be the sleeper here. He ran in the Anniversary Highway Consolation here a fortnight ago and just forget he went around. He was back and wide in a race dominated by the leader and eventual winner, the very promising Don’t Give A Damn. Up to 1800m is ideal and he drops a fair bit in depth.
Race 5. (15:20) McMahons Racecourse Construction Handicap (83) 1400m
2 Stonebrook (Bet Now:$1.75) looks one of the better bets on the card for mine. This son of Hinchinbrook for the Waterhouse/Bott team is four for four. Yes, hasn’t beaten much, but he has run decent time every start and his racing pattern is super. He leads, relaxes, kicks and when he has to dig in, he does. Looks very well placed here.
8 Passage Of Time (Bet Now:$5.00) defied a betting to win first up for the Pride camp at the Rosehill midweeks, beating home a few nice types, before going to Canterbury last Wednesday where he ran a close up fourth to the above average Osborne Bulls. Now he has had the two solid 1200m runs under the belt, he’ll be cherry ripe for this 1400m assignment.
5 Reneged (Bet Now:$16.00) is the watch horse here. John Thompson trained galloper that is first up here after a pretty good Winter, where the highlighted was at Canterbury where he sat wide throughout but won and landed a plonk. Normally needs a run or two to find his feet, but he loves a track with give in it and we saw something similar last week with Collateral.
Race 6. (15:55) TJS Services Handicap (82) 1200m
5 Vigilance (Bet Now:$6.00) is a four year old mare for Godolphin and James Cummings that is first up here. She can’t do anymore than win and that is what she did in her first prep, winning four of four. Trials tell me she might need this run, but you can’t knock a winner and the stable is going well with their fresh runners.
4 Firsthand (Bet Now:$4.80) had trialled up well on a couple of occasions prior to resuming at this track/distance three weeks back where he just got too far back in the run on a leaders track but his finale was excellent behind Chalk. Should come right on from that and he does have a very good second up record. Definite threat.
1 Zumbelina (Bet Now:$7.00) is a quality mare for Chris Waller who has been really good in two runs back. She landed some big bets for punters first up at Rosehill, outgunning the then in form Tango Rain, before racing there again and the race shape was against her behind the flying Sir Plush. Been freshened up and trialled well a couple of weeks back at Warwick Farm.
Race 7. (16:35) Chambers Russell Lawyers Handicap (80) 2000m
7 Karavali (Bet Now:$5.00) looks a solid chance here. Nadeem mare for Kris Lees who ran over 1900m at Canterbury last Wednesday and was very one paced but she closed off with purpose late when third to the in form Braces. The rise to 2000m is perfect and she is crying out for a bigger track, which she gets here.
11 Malmas (Bet Now:$9.00) is an interesting runner here. Chris Waller trained stayer who comes to Sydney after starting his prep in Victoria. Resumed with a strong win on Benalla Cup Day before going to Caulfield last Wednesday and just not getting the right run behind Violate. He isn’t a sit/sprint type. He needs clear air to build momentum. Winning chance if that eventuates here.
9 Meiner Freccia (Bet Now:$21.00) has had three runs back from a little freshen up and for mine looks ready to tackle this. Ran over 1900m at Canterbury last time out and closed off well from the back late in the piece when fifth to Estikhraaj. Stable has an excellent strike rate when sending them to town and has been kept up to the mark with a quiet Wyong trial on Monday.
12 Man Of His Word…(Bet Now:$12.00) I can’t figure him out, nor can Bruce Hill it would seem but I will say he is a good horse who has performed well in Sydney before and this is a very winnable assignment. Loved his effort at Doomben two weeks back but again he wanted to do things wrong and cost himself. If he puts everything together, he’ll go close.
5 Kaepernick (Bet Now:$7.50) is a talented type for the O’Shea stable who gave the course record a nudge when winning fresh at Warwick Farm before going to the Sydney Stakes where he ran a beauty I thought in defeat behind In Her Time. Drops big time in depth and as he is getting older, I think the rise to 1400m will suit him perfectly.
6 Mighty Lucky (Bet Now:$7.00) is absolutely flying this prep…I’m just not sure why Fred Cowell is putting an apprentice on. Nothing against Innes Jr, but the two times the horse has had an apprentice on, including last start at this track/distance, he hasn’t attacked the line like we know he can. Still, he’s going too well to ignore, maps well and does get weight relief.
Race 9. (17:55) A W Edwards Handicap (95) 1800m
8 Interlocuter (Bet Now:$1.80) should be putting this field away. Looked a good thing on paper when racing over the mile here three weeks and that is how it panned out under Angland, who shoved the horse into the clear and from there it was pretty painless for those that took the short odds. The rise to 1800m is perfect and only bad luck will beat him.
I had no idea what to do with 9 Black On Gold (Bet Now:$7.00) first up a couple of Mondays back at Warwick Farm. First up off a QLD prep, at a mile. I was happy to watch. What I watched was a very impressive return. Sat back, peeled out and let down hard under Bowman to put them away. He can measure up here for sure.
3 Singing (Bet Now:$26.00) was first up in the Wyong Cup and the market flucs said he needed the run, which was proven right, but his effort in defeat after copping pressure on speed was very good I thought. Maps super here, fitter, and he does have a bit of class/quality about him. One for multiples here for sure.
