Racing in Adelaide returns to the course proper at Morphettville this Saturday for a seven race card. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out nine metres for the entire circuit.
Race 1. (14:01) Dominant Handicap (82) 2500m
6 Ropeadope (Bet Now: $8.50) on top in a thin race. He ran over 2800m at Kyneton last Tuesday and I think they just got the tactics wrong on the horse. His best efforts have come when coming from behind, so riding on speed wasn’t going to work and that is how it panned out. If they do ride him with cover here, he’ll go close.
2 Flying Casino (Bet Now: $2.80) is a very tough gelding for John Hickmott who ran behind The Willybe here two weeks ago and he did a really good job against the tempo. Hit his usual flat spot and was seemingly going nowhere, but he picked up and charged late. Hard to trust, but a definite inclusion here.
5 Sudden Moment (Bet Now: $6.50) is a gelding in really good form at the moment for the Rob Daniel team. He ran at Warrnambool last Friday over 2000m where he was given every chance by Daniel Moor and loomed large to win the race but had to settle for second to Choysa. Has run well here before and this is a thin contest.
Race 2. (14:36) UBET Plate 1000m
2 Heart Conquered (Bet Now: $4.60) should take care of this lot. Team Hawkes trained youngster on debut here and I dare say he is here given his sire, Akeed Mofeed, is based in SA and the stud want to make a statement. Jumped out well last week at Flemington and on that effort, he does look the one here for mine.
7 Hikaya (Bet Now: $4.80) is a daughter of O’Reilly on debut for the Tony McEvoy yard. This girl has had one public trial, which came at Cranbourne and though she was beaten a fair way in running third, I thought she did go about her business quite nicely, and the fact she comes to SA for the debut is a good sign.
5 Tequila Time (Bet Now: $14.00) is the lone starter here with race experience on its side. This Macdonald/Gluyas trained youngster debuted three weeks back on the Parks track over 1000m and he ran quite well but was clearly no match for the very impressive Crockett. That form should hold up really nicely for this assignment.
Race 3. (15:11) Schweppes Maiden Plate 1050m
8 Champers On Ice (Bet Now: $4.40) hasn’t raced since September 24 at Murray Bridge where she made her debut and worked home strongly late from the back behind Street Life. Trialled a couple of weeks back to tune up and overall, this isn’t a strong contest. Definite hard/market watch despite the break between runs.
2 Buck’s Row (Bet Now: $8.00) is one of the hardest to beat on exposed form. Had two runs towards the latter part of the Autumn where he did a good job in races which had far more depth than what he faces here. No trials leading in, but he really only has to hold his form from that prep to go close to beating these.
1 Astir (Bet Now: $11.00) is a son of Real Saga on debut for the Richard Jolly yard. He has only had the one trial this prep, which came at Gawler when down the track behind Made In Russia. The positive for him is that trial winner ran well in a deep maiden on the Parks track last Saturday. Definite yard/market watch.
Race 4. (15:46) James Boags Handicap (70) 2043m
3 Rokda Kasba (Bet Now: $9.00) should be ready now third up from a break. He ran over the Cranbourne mile last time out in a race and on a day where it was hard to make ground and that is how it panned out behind I Am The Dark. Crying out for further, which he gets here, and the depth overall looks pretty plain so he gets his chance.
7 Table Of Wisdom (Bet Now: $4.60) is facing his D-Day here. He was 1800m-1600m and a month between runs when racing at Murray Bridge on Cup Day last Friday and he loomed to win the race but his condition just gave out late behind Dollar Dollar Bill. That run should bring him right on and he has run well at 2000m before.
4 Robocop (Bet Now: $23.00) could be the knockout chance here at odds. He ran over 2100m last time out at Gawler on a rock hard track where he sat on speed and he gave a really good kick but just died on the run when third to Centre Divider. He is a proven city performer and I’d like to see him ridden cold and saved for the final 600m.
Race 5. (16:21) Goldin Farms Handicap (70) 1600m
8 Angelucci (Bet Now: $4.60) is a gelding who is absolutely low flying at the moment for the Lloyd Kennewell team. He was an alarming drifter when racing over 1500m at Gawler a tick over two weeks back but under a smart on pace steer from Joe Bowditch, the son of So You Think kicked hard on the turn and set up a winning break. Harder here, but I think he can take the leap.
6 Wasabi Bob (Bet Now: $4.20) is the improver here for the Macdonald/Gluyas team. He ran over this track/distance a fortnight back and I think it was just a total forgive/forget run given he was wide no cover for the trip but he actually stuck on alright behind Hussybay. Draws much better and the in form Raquel Clark takes over.
13 Red Raider (Bet Now: $16.00) is on the seven day back up after racing on the Parks track last Saturday where he was caught wide no cover for the trip and rightfully dropped out to finish down the track behind the in form and above average Paseeto. Finds a winnable race here. Just needs to get cover from the gate.
Race 6. (17:11) Medallion Homes Handicap (90) 1200m
1 Lord Aspen (Bet Now: $3.20) on top for me. Quality galloper for the Mick Huxtable team who was a month between runs when racing in the Durrbridge a fortnight back and he just lacked the turn of foot to go with them but wasn’t too bad late behind Lord De Capio. Now he has the run under the belt, he’ll be better off and looks the one.
2 Chamois Road (Bet Now: $4.40) hasn’t raced for three weeks since racing over 1400m on the Parks track where he was given every chance off the pace and loomed large but just couldn’t match the burst of Moss ‘N’ Dale. Back to 1200m is ideal for this Patrick Payne galloper and he trialled up really well on Monday at Cranbourne.
8 So Skilled (Bet Now: $8.00) got a win on the board two back over the 1250m on the Parks track before racing over 1400m here a few weeks back and he was a bit disappointing for mine behind Freedom Road. Think he will be better suited here back to 1200m and if they do happen to go hard in front, it will really suit this four year old galloper.
Race 7. (18:00) The Junction Handicap (75) 1050m
14 Invisible Girl (Bet Now: $4.00) is a talented mare for the Lloyd Kennewell team who got a dream sit off the pace last start at Morphettville and once Bowditch gave the mare some clear air, the race was as good as over given her powerful finishing burst and she landed some good bets in winning. This race looks ideal for her and she’ll be charging.
1 This Kid Rocks (Bet Now: $4.20) a definite threat. This Belinda O’Loughlin trained gelding had a fabulous prep in the Autumn/Winter, winning several races and running a couple of ripping races in Melbourne. Looked outstanding in a recent Penola trial win, he flies fresh and first up at 1050m, no doubt he will be strong late.
5 Barood (Bet Now: $8.00) did the donkey work to win two back at Bendigo, beating home a subsequent Flemington winner. He then raced over this track/distance and ran a narrow second to Mile High. Been freshened up and ran slashing time in a Bordertown trial win last Sunday. Looks ready to go to my eye.
