28/7/2018 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Doomben

Nine races will be run and won at Doomben this Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out three metres for the entire circuit.

2 Defence Missile (Bet Now: $2.60) should just about win this. Tough effort on speed two back behind Miss Quaintly, who is being touted as a Group l horse. Raced at the same track/distance which was the Sunny Coast 1000m, and bolted in under in form rider Brad Stewart. Looks well placed against this bunch.

7 Pinch Vista (Bet Now: $3.40) opened fav and that was surprising really given the draw and the way the map read. Still, there was a bit to like about the debut effort at Ipswich when second to a potential star in Asharani. If he can overcome the wide gate, definitely a threat. $5+ I’d want if I was to back him.

4 Heart Of Kings (Bet Now: $7.00) is a Show A Heart gelding for Tony Sears who defied a mini market drift at odds when debuting over 870m on his home track at Toowoomba but he defied market expectations with a pretty impressive win after settling just off the pace, he peeled at the right time and got the win. Has to improve off that, but I think he can naturally from start one to start two.

Happy to give 2 Ruling Dynasty (Bet Now: $5.00) another chance. He is on the seven day back up for Rob Heathcoate after racing last Saturday in the Tatts Mile where he just got too far back but I thought he made up good ground in the straight behind impressive winner Fit For Purpose. He was a talented stayer when racing in Sydney so the step up to 2200m is no issue.

6 San Telmo (Bet Now: $4.80) is on the seven day back up after bolting up at this track/distance last Saturday, admittedly in much easier grade than this. He got the full momentum out wide while those inside were pushing and shoving for a clear run. More depth here, but now his confidence is up, he can go on with it.

8 Chillin’ With Dylan (Bet Now: $9.50) is a Ben Ahrens trained stayer who won the prelude to the Grafton Cup thanks to a peach from Brad Stewart before racing in the Grafton Cup and he worked home well late in the piece behidn First Crush. He’s a proven track/distance horse and looks to have a bit of upside left.

3 Spurcraft…(Bet Now: $1.75) it’s nearly a case of any price. Charlotte White has a very good sprinter on her hands here, with the great asset of sustained speed from the front ensuring he’s won five of his eight starts, with three placings. Interestingly placed in a 900m Class 4 at the Gold Coast two weeks ago, where he was rightfully Winx odds and won like her. 1110m is the only real niggle, but I think he’s got these covered.

The step up in trip should 7 Raiden (Bet Now: $8.50) for Kris Lees. Ran over 1000m at the Sunny Coast a fortnight back and for mine he just got a touch too far out of his ground but he finished it off okay behind Jetsonic. Little query at 1200m, so I like him at the 1110m, and the stable is low flying at the moment, especially when coming to Queensland, and this horse will be suited on top of the ground.

8 Hirtshals (Bet Now: $26.00) is a daughter of Pins for the Brian Smith team who comes through a pretty solid Class 6 at Ipswich where she had the box seat just behind the speed and tried hard but lacked the class behind Of The Day, who is a blacktype performer. I reckon back to 1110m looks ideal for her and with a hot speed in front of her, she can be dangerous.

Awful race. Up to the 1350m will suit 5 So Invincible (Bet Now: $4.80), who is on the seven day back up after racing over 1200m here last Saturday where he just got too far back but I liked the way he closed off late behind impressive winner Tabbing. Up to 1350m a big tick and from the good draw, hopefully he can sit closer in the run.

4 Rhyming (Bet Now: $3.70) is the form horse of the lot but it’s been a while since she has won. Still, plenty to like about her effort last Satruday at this track/distance when attempting to lead all the way and fighting on well behind Italia Bella. Back to this level, and with cover, I reckon she’ll be much more effective.

8 Pegapus (Bet Now: $5.50) comes through the Mother’s Gift during the Grafton Carnival where the market said she had three legs and she ran accordingly. Had the good run off the pace and presented on the turn as a winning threat but she couldn’t finish it off at all and was well held. Happy to give her another chance.

13 Makes You Think (Bet Now: $3.30) on top for me. Steve O’Dea trains this three year old, who resumed against the older horses over 1000m at the Sunny Coast a fortnight back where he was a notable drifter in betting but ran home strongly to just miss out on picking up Jetsonic. Up to 1200m looks ideal and happy to be in his corner.

3 Mr Belaggio (Bet Now: $4.00) is a gelding resuming for Liam Birchley. This bloke hasn’t raced since April when finishing midfield over 1400m at the Sunny Coast behind Old Habits. Fab record at Doomben, likes racing fresh and his Deagon trial last week was very good to the eye. Definite yard/market watch.

8 Almas (Bet Now: $14.00) is facing his toughest test to date but gee it’s hard to ignore the way he’s going at the moment, winning his last three over 1100m, with two of those wins coming at Grafton, the latest during their Carnival when given a 12/10 from matty McGuren, who rides on Saturday. Should get a sweet run off the pace and he’ll be strong late.

14 She’s Choosie (Bet Now: $4.40) on top. This filly is very good for Gre Kilner, and I can understand why Leah Kilner has steered the filly throughout her career. But she’s ridden the horse poorly in both runs this time in, the latest coming during the Grafton Carnival when just missing out on picking up Vernazza. Tegan jumps on now and she should park off a brutal speed and have last say.

11 Helfuchi (Bet Now: $5.00) looks a nice filly for Chris Munce on the seven day back up after bolting in at the Gold Coast last Saturday, leading all the way under a lovely on speed ride from Ryan Plumb. Was 1200-1100 that afternoon so back up to 1200m suits. She’s a jump/run type. I’d love to see her take a sit.

9 Conquering Lass (Bet Now: $15.00) is a talented daughter of Love Conquers All for Steve Tregea who resumed a couple of Fridays back over 1050m at Toowoomba where she chased a hot speed and given she was first up, she had every right to drop out, but she found plenty late and chased hard. Speed looks genuine here, so she should get her chance to run on, and did run well in town last campaign.

Dry track, any ounce of normal luck and 3 Too Good To Refuse (Bet Now: $4.80) should be winning this. I was all over him in the Rocky Newmarket last time where I thought he was a good thing but unfortunately mother nature had other ideas and made the track bottomless, something this horse hates. Did a remarkable job to run third. Back on top of the ground, up to 1350m, I’m very keen.

7 Sabkhat (Bet Now: $4.00) is a son of Reset for Steve O’Dea who looks to be going really well. Has placed behind Ruling Dynasty at his past two, the latest over the mile here three weeks back when pipped near the peg. He does seem to be a good horse on the fresh side and I reckon he’ll get a good time of things on speed.

I reckon 2 Siegfried (Bet Now: $11.00) could be a big improver here at odds. He’s had little to no luck in his first two runs for the prep, starting off in the Hinkler behind Savanna Amour before going to the Ramornie when down the track behind Havasay. He is a track/distance specialist who maps well and should be close to peak fitness.

I think 14 Bluebrook (Bet Now: $2.70) can continue the picket fence. Kelly Schweida has this gelding going so well at the moment, winning his past two at the Sunny Coast in impressive fashion. Toughed it out on the bog to win over 1400m two back before stepping up to the mile and beating Fit For Purpose, who won the Tatts Mile last Saturday, so that form reads so well.

This race will tell us if 12 Cosmic Engine (Bet Now: $9.00) is a contender or pretender. Had trialled up well in Sydney prior to his resumption, and both it and the second up run have been awful, albeit those races carried far more depth than what he faces, and we have seen these Waller horses improve big time when coming to Queensland.

5 Slydini (Bet Now: $12.00) is a Team Guy trained gelding who has been a ripper for the stable since coming to Queensland and always puts together a decent racing prep. Got the win first up and in three runs since has been okay. He does like racing at the Doomben mile and the drop in depth should suit this gelding.

10 Get Stuck In (Bet Now: $15.00) is a son of Lucas Cranach for Tony Gollan who is in ripping form at the moment. Gave them a caning in his maiden win at Toowoomba two back before racing during the Rocky Carnival on a soft track and got the job done impressively under Chris Symons. More depth here, but you have to like the way he is going about it.

6 Chapter And Verse (Bet Now: $4.80) is a Desleigh Forster trained son of Rothesay who should eat up the mile after running over 1400m at the Sunny Coast two weeks ago where he just got too far back off the pace but he finished off with real purpose late to run second to Sacred Rebel. He’s the horse to follow from that race and rates highly.

4 Brains (Bet Now: $8.50) is just racing so well at the moment and I think he has definitely earned a crack at Saturday metro level. Ran over the mile during the Rockhampton Carnival on a bog and he was so impressive in dashing away and winning by a space. Think he’ll even be better on top of the ground and a mile clearly no issue. He’ll be strong at the end.
