Nine races will be run and won on the Parks track at Morphettville this Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.
Race 1. (13:01) Furphy (bm68) 1250m
2 Jacobite Prince (Bet Now:Β $3.00) for me. Phillip Stokes trains this three year old, who is first up off what was a very good opening prep to his career. Won the first two starts in impressive fashion before running a game third to the Group l performed Xilong, which clearly is a good form reference for this. Recent jumpout was encouraging and finds a winnable race.
4 Hankstar (Bet Now:Β $5.50) is suited back up to 1250m I feel. Back to 1000m probably hurt him here two weeks ago but at the same time, I don’t think many would have beaten Larkham, a horse who I think is a Stakes winner in waiting. Was coming back to 1000m from 1200m so back up to 1250m, third up, hard to beat.
3 Bludog (Bet Now:Β $13.00) looks to have his share of ability for Ryan Balfour. Ran over 1200m in a 3YO race on Adelaide Cup Day and was good late from the back when third to the well performed Sansom. Does he want further than an extra 50m? Perhaps, but I don’t think the overall depth is as strong, so he’s a contender for sure and the jumpout on Tuesday was good.
Race 2. (13:41) Metal-link (bm64) 1550m
2 Desidero (Bet Now:Β $8.00) to bounce back for me. Going off his run at Murray Bridge, and his overall recent form, he’s a leading chance here because he tries his heart out on speed and gives his all, and given the track pattern at recent meetings, he is going to be hard to run down. He ran on Wednesday at Strathalbyn and was awful. Saving grace is he looks the leader and love Stubby going back on.
7 Kyshaka (Bet Now:Β $2.90) is a talented galloper for Peter Hardacre, a stable that is going really well at the moment. Had a month between runs prior to racing over this track/distance a fortnight ago when back in the run and finishing off strongly to just miss out on picking up Happy Street, who ran well last Saturday to tick that form off. Fitter, she’ll be hard to hold out.
Up to 1550m looks a big tick for the Will Clarken trained 9 High Mist (Bet Now:Β $5.50). Has had a few runs for the stable after formerly being with Chris Waller. Ran over 1250m here last Saturday and on a day where on speed was the place to be, he really had no chance given he is a backmarker. Run still had merit to it, so up in trip, he deserves another chance.
Race 3. (14:21) Tab Hcp 1000m
8 Enaaya (Bet Now:Β $3.80) is a Pride Of Dubai filly on debut for Team McEvoy. This girl has had a couple of trials to prepare for start one, the latest coming around a couple of weeks back at Gawler when winning her trial in good fashion and time wasn’t too bad relative to the day. Then had a jumpout there on March 20 and was pushed out to win that. Keen to see how she goes here against a couple of likely types.
Was on 4 Ecumenical (Bet Now:Β $4.80) at the big odds when he won here on debut two weeks ago and see no reason ignore him. Gee the win was huge I thought considering he was three and four wide throughout in a fast run race yet kept coming and surged the final couple of strides to nab Zoushine on the peg. Think he’ll take enormous improvement off that and rates highly again.
10 No Filter (Bet Now:Β $8.00) is a daughter of Press Statement on debut. She’s had two jumpouts to get ready for her first start, the latest coming last Friday at Gawler when on speed and not 100% knocked about when second to Enaaya. Stable can get them ready for start one, so keen to see what the market does with her.
Race 4. (15:01) Holdfast Insurance Mdn Plate 1300m
7 Skilled Wizard (Bet Now:Β $2.30) looks the pony to bet on. Has really caught the eye in both runs back from a spell, the latest coming three weeks ago over 1250m here when a closing second to Sheza Little Posh after getting held up for a few strides. He’ll eat up 1300m here…just hope he doesn’t spot them too big of a start given the way the track has played recently.
13 Intrigue (Bet Now:Β $2.35) is bursting to win a maiden. Just seems to find one or two better on the day. Was a heavily backed odds on pop when racing over 1250m here two weeks ago and looked to get every chance under Stubby. Just found one better in Stan The Caddy but the run was more than sound. Hard to beat the way she’s going…not sure I could back her to win with confidence.
12 Chokita (Bet Now:Β $20.00) is running out of chances with punters. Has been hard in the market in both runs back from a break, both at Murray Bridge, and each time she’s had every chance and not finished the race off well enough. Could I back her to win? No, but she’s usually around the mark, so I’d be including her in multiples.
Race 5. (15:41) Festival Of Racing 2-16 May 1000m
10 Sidestreet (Bet Now:Β $6.50) is worth a gamble here I think. Son of Bel Esprit who is resuming, having not raced since debuting back on July of last year in a maiden here when a very strong third to Mannix after sitting wide throughout. Been given a good break and has had two jumpouts to prepare, the latest on Tuesday and loved the way he moved.
12 Lace And Whiskey (Bet Now:Β $5.00) is a daughter of Akeed Mofeed for Will Clarken that resumes. This girl hasn’t raced since November 6 when a beaten odds on pop at Port Lincoln behind track specialist Abbi Fede. Been given a good break and has had a couple of jumpouts in readiness for her return. Watch the market with this stable.
1 Mihany (Bet Now:Β $14.00) seems to have found, somewhat, a new lease of life for Dean Saxon. Seemed to be going like a busted for a couple of years, but since being trained as a sprinter, he seems to be enjoying that. Really good effort from the back at Murray Bridge last start when an eye catching third to Smart Alick. If the track is playing fair, he can without surprising.
Race 6. (16:21) Aami (bm78) 1950m
6 Serious Spender (Bet Now:Β $4.20) looks the winner. The Macdonald/Gluyas stable trains this mare, who bolted up at this track/distance two weeks ago when finally stepping out in trip and once the pressure went on in front, she got the perfect drag up into the race and once Stubby pushed the button, it was game over. Confident she can go close again.
11 Master Of Zerprise (Bet Now:Β $27.00) is potentially on the Derby path for Mick Huxtable. Steps out to 1950m after racing over the mile at Murray Bridge last time out when off the speed and chasing hard when fourth to Igitur in a solid effort, much more encouraging than the resumption. Like him up in trip and has plenty of upside.
4 Flow Meter (Bet Now:Β $17.00) is an absolute beauty for John Hickmott. Having start 133 and is on the quick back up after racing here last Saturday where the stop/start set up was against him but didn’t mind the way he stuck to the task in defeat behind stablemate Turf Man. Seems to be racing really well and a win wouldn’t shock at all.
Race 7. (17:01) Terry Howe Printing (bm64) 1250m
7 Quiet Class (Bet Now:Β $27.00) is the pony to bet on I think. Peter Hardacre trains this Supreme Class gelding, who was an impressive maiden winner two back at Donald before going to Ballarat where he was down the track but far from disgraced behind Magnajet in a race which had good depth to it. Back to this level, with fresh legs, he appeals.
3 Ambidazzle (Bet Now:Β $2.60) is a Phillip Stokes trained mare who is racing in a real purple patch at the moment. Ran over 1400m here two weeks ago where she seemed to get every chance just off the speed and tried hard, but 1400m at this level probably just found her out late. Like her back to 1250m and is hard to beat.
9 La Vita (Bet Now:Β $6.50) is on the seven day back up for Stuart Gower after racing over this track/distance last Saturday where she seemed to get every chance off the speed and loomed to win, but the pattern of the day was somewhat against her behind Miracleofmiracles, but still, thought she had her chance. Winnable race this at her best.
Race 8. (17:40) Schweppes (rs2ly) 1000m
Beautifully placed here 3 Li’l Kontra (Bet Now:Β $3.50). That was the case when she resumed on Adelaide Cup Day but as good as Lachie Niendorf is, I think he would have liked the ride over again. Just allowed the eventual winner up the inside in a habit that has really crept into riding in recent times so not solely aiming at Lachie. He’s a star. Jumpout on Tuesday morning was excellent. This filly can make amends here en route to the Robert Sangster.
2 Equal Love (Bet Now:Β $10.00) is an Equiano mare for Phillip Stokes that resumes. This mare really came of age during the Spring, graduating to being a Stakes performed mare in Melbourne. Her two jumpouts leading in have been quite good and if she’s going to be a legitimate Goodwood contender, has to go close to winning this.
11 Little Rich Boy (Bet Now:Β $12.00) has the sustained speed to lead throughout and beat these without surprising. Want to be forgiving of his run down the Flemington straight last time out when seemingly not 100% happy on that shifty surface behind Sangria. Been given the freshen up and the way this track has played recently, his racing pattern ensures he is a key chance.
Race 9. (18:15) Adelaide Galvanising (rs1mw) 1400m
Up in trip will definitely suit 7 Journica (Bet Now:Β $10.00), who resumed behind Larkham here two weeks ago where he was ridden on speed to sit outside that impressive winner but just didn’t have the speed in the legs to go with him. Not many would have given he ran 32.7 for the L600m. Think with a more conservative steer, he’ll be more effective.
1 Sky Punch (Bet Now:Β $3.20) is bursting to win another race and I think he gets his chance here. Ran over the mile on Adelaide Cup where he got a dream run on speed outsider the leader France’s Boy and tried hard to get past that horse, but he kicked on strongly and was just able to hold on and beat Sky Punch. Like him back to 1400m and is a key chance.
5 Cleary Adonis (Bet Now:Β $10.00) is an improver here for sure for John Hyam. Ran over 1200m on Adelaide Cup Day in a 3YO race, a good 3YO race, and while he was well held by Sansom, he was far from disgraced and did make up late ground. Like him up to 1400m and if he can sit a pair or two closer in the run, he’ll be very dangerous.
