Saturday racing in Brisbane returns to Doomben this weekend for a strong eight race card. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

Race One (12:17) : Cascade Handicap 1110m:
Back Me: 8 The Ambassadore (Bet Now: $4.80) ran at the midweeks here last Wednesday and was just far too dominant for the maiden rivals, winning by a space and with plenty in reserve. He is drawn inside a speed runner, so hopefully he can push forward then get cover. If that eventuates, he’ll take beating.
Big Danger: 2 Mishani Sleuth (Bet Now: $5.50) ran at Eagle Farm a fortnight back where he sat on speed most of the way and gave a pretty good kick, only to be nabbed late by the consistent and well performed Rare Occurrence. He draws a lovely gate and the claim definitely helps.
Roughie: 1 Bagus (Bet Now: $7.00) is a talented youngster that resumes for Kelly Schweida. He won the rich QTIS race at Rockhampton before being testing the water in the early part of the Carnival and failing. Two trials to tune, both of which have been fast, so he’ll be wound up to run well fresh.

Race Two (12:52) : Mt Franklin Handicap (1MW) 1600m:
Back Me: 1 One Inch Punch (Bet Now: $3.10) ran over 1400m at Eagle Farm a couple of weeks back and worked home well against the on pace bias when second to Total Authority, beaten just over two lengths. Drawn horribly here, but if he can get some luck from the gate, he’ll be a leading contender.
Big Danger: 7 Bentles (Bet Now: $4.60) resumed over 1350m here at the midweeks on August 10 and was only grabbed in the last stride or two after attempting to lead all the way. He’ll be better suited up to the mile here, he’s fitter and maps quite well.
Roughie: 13 Rocbolt (Bet Now: $26.00) could be an improver here at odds. He ran on his home track last start and was not suited at all by the slow tempo behind Arena Salon. He’ll love the step up in trip, has upside and will be strong late. Knockout chance.

Race Three (13:27) : Jim Beam Handicap 1350m:
Back Me: 2 Flamboyer (Bet Now: $2.60) was a drifter when racing at Eagle Farm a fortnight back and though the punters ended up getting it right, he did give a big sight as he usually does when a close up third to Beckham, who failed with excuses last week. Returns to his favourite track now, should lead and take some beating.
Big Danger: 7 Punta Norte (Bet Now: $6.50) comes through that same race mentioned above where he had the charmed run behind the speed and looked the winner the way he looked to travel but he couldn’t quite finish it off and ran fourth. Four of his six career wins have come at Doomben, so that will help his cause I suspect.
Roughie: 9 Divine Service (Bet Now: $11.00) ran over 1200m at Eagle Farm a fortnight back where he sat near the speed and fought on pretty well I thought behind Sony Legend. Rises back up to open company again, but is down in the weights and has the potential to roll forward from the gate.

Race Four (14:02) : Canadian Club Handicap (75) 1050m:
Back Me: 11 Morning Fog (Bet Now: $7.50) ran at the midweeks here a few weeks back and led throughout to get the job done narrowly but impressively. Form has held up with the runner up Wigglesworth running a game second at Eagle Farm a couple of Saturdays back. Looks a leading contender here for sure.
Big Danger: 3 Prompt Return (Bet Now: $4.00) was having his first run for Toby Edmonds when resuming at the Gold Coast a fortnight back and was given a lovely steer from Griffin to get the job done impressively, his first win since the 2014 Maribyrnong Plate. He won’t reach those heights, but the fresh run was very encouraging and he has upside.
Roughie: 4 Thomas The Tank (Bet Now: $21.00) comes through that Prompt Response race where he had a nice run near the tempo and fought on well I thought to be only beaten into second by the horse mentioned above. Not sure he can turn the tables, but he too has upside as well as a solid record at Doomben.

Race Five (14:42) : Coke Handicap 2000m:
Back Me: Giving 1 Black Jag (Bet Now: $7.00) another chance. He ran at Eagle Farm two weeks back where he sat near the speed and plugged away strongly when third to impressive winner and the heavily backed Panno Rossa. He’ll press forward again and I think he’ll be better suited at Doomben compared to Eagle Farm.
Big Danger: 3 Brave Ali (Bet Now: $4.80) isn’t one of my horses but his second in that Panno Rossa was encouraging, his first placing this prep. He has taken his time to find form, but now that he has, he could potentially go on with it in what looks a thin race.
Roughie: 6 My Diamantine (Bet Now: $12.00) has been freshened up since racing over the two miles in the Queensland Cup when finishing a game fourth to Murphy’s Delight. This is the easiest race he has contested in Australia and this is a very weak race. Definite winning chance.

Race Six (15:22) : Coke Zero Plate (Class 3) 1350m:
Back Me: 8 Monsieur Gustave (Bet Now: $2.70) was backed as if he was Black Caviar when resuming at the Sunny Coast and he pretty much won like Black Caviar, winning by nearly ten lengths and beating home an above average horse in Renesmee. Will he race flat second up? That is the great query, but if he finds his best, gee he’ll take some beating.
Roughie: 5 Man Of His Word (Bet Now: $5.50) ran in a similar Class 3 to this race at Eagle Farm two weeks back where he got near last in the run before closing off hard out wide behind My Cousin Bossy. I’m hoping he can sit a touch closer from the gate. If that eventuates, he’ll be a massive threat.
Big Danger: 16 O’Reilly Cyrus (Bet Now: $6.50) ran at Eagle Farm two weeks ago and worked home strongly out wide when third to the well performed Rare Occurrence, beaten just under a length in a pleasing effort. Third up now, so she should be close to peak fitness now and rates highly.

Race Seven (16:02) : Sprite Plate (Class 6) 1200m:
Back Me: 20 Western Belle (Bet Now: $9.50) contested a Class 3 at Eagle Farm three weeks back where she was well backed at odds and the move almost came off, but she had to settle for second to Keep On Rocking. Remains down in the weights and draws a lovely gate. Terrific chance.
Big Danger: 13 Pepperano (Bet Now: $4.60) attempted to lead all the way at the midweeks here two weeks ago when resuming and she gave a really good kick down the straight, but she just felt the pinch late when third. Very capable mare on her day as you see with her 2YO form and if there are any signs of that here, she’ll knock this field off.
Roughie: 4 Red Diamonds (Bet Now: $31.00) ran over this track/distance on August 10 where she sat on speed most of the way and just tired late to run fourth to True Royal. That was her third run back, so I think she will be at peak fitness now and fourth up last time in she ran third here to the handy Scone mare Sahara Chill.

Race Eight (16:42) : LIFT Plate (Class 6) 1200m:
Back Me: 11 Land Office (Bet Now: $3.80) was kept safe in the market when resuming at the Sunny Coast and he was very impressive in winning, sitting near the speed most of the way before putting the leader away in a couple of strides and bolting up. Tumbles in weight, draws well again..ticks the boxes.
Big Danger: 13 Skylimit (Bet Now: $13.00) was a bit hard to trust but he has put together two wins on the bounce now, including a win at Eagle Farm three weeks back where he really toughed it out strongly where it looked as if he was going to get beat. Hard to beat.
Roughie: 6 Mana Manu (Bet Now: $51.00) will really appreciate the drop back in depth I suspect. This horse has contested Open Handicaps or Stakes races at his past seven starts. During that time he has run well and has some pretty solid form lines, with the likes of Into The Red and Whiskey Allround in there. Brings that here and he’ll go very close.
