Group l racing in Australia for the new season kicks off this Saturday at Caulfield with the Memsie Stakes (1400m) highlighting a fabulous afternoon of racing at the Heath. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out six metres for the entire circuit.

Race One (12:25) : WeDrive.com.au Plate (78) 1400m:
Back Me: 5 Smart As You Think (Bet Now: $15.00) for me here. Had two runs to kick off her career in the latter part of the Autumn and really caught the eye on both occasions, with each race looking to hold up form wise. Looked solid in a recent Cranbourne trial and she does have the quality to beat these.
Big Danger: 3 Leotie (Bet Now: $1.70) resumed in the Quezette and produced an amazing final 250m to finish a close second to I Am A Star. The experts think she is a good thing and the market has reacted. Have to keep in mind she was a $15 chance when winning first up in a maiden, and now you have to take odds on in the city? Not for me, but concede she is hard to beat.
Roughie: 1 Hot Dipped (Bet Now: $12.00) is a smart filly from the Apple Isle who resumed in the Quezette and was okay without setting the world on fire behind I Am A Star. The trial leading in as well as a jump out indicated she had come back in great order, so I wouldn’t drop off her, especially here in a field with no depth.

Race Two (13:00) : Catanach’s Jewellers Handicap 1400m:
Back Me: 4 He’s Our Rokkii (Bet Now: $4.40) for me. Talented galloper that really put it all together during the Championships at Randwick, winning a couple of Stakes races. Tipped out immediately with Spring riches in mind and that looks as if that will be the case if he’s jump out last week is any indicator. It was outstanding, so I’m happy to be in his corner.
Big Danger: It was D-Day for 9 Prince Of Brooklyn (Bet Now: $2.80) two weeks ago when racing here and thankfully he put them away and got the job done. This is a hot race with plenty of depth. The advantage for him is that most are first up and he is hard fit.
Roughie: 5 De Little Engine (Bet Now: $31.00) is a talented stayer that resumes for Danny O’Brien. Clearly his best form is over further, but I can’t remember him looking as sharp as he has at the jump outs than he has in recent times. He could certainly be worth an each way ticket.

Race Three (13:35) : Hockingstuart Plate 1400m:
Back Me: I think there is value in the shape of 3 All Cerise (Bet Now: $16.00). She looked sharp in a jump out prior to resuming at Flemington where she sat on speed and faded out of the finish behind Ulmann. Has since been to the jump outs again, which happened last Friday, where she looked pretty good again. Back to her own sex, and with the run under the belt, she should be better off. Happy to have something on her each way.
Big Danger: 4 Vibrant Rouge (Bet Now: $8.00) is on the back up after racing last Saturday at the Valley where she got back in the run and closed off hard late when third to Group winner Catch A Fire. She is racing very well this time in but just can’t quite crack it for a win. Gets weight relief here, she’s hard fit, in form…she gets her chance.
Roughie: 2 Gabella (Bet Now: $11.00) is a Stakes winning mare that is first up for the Hayes/Dabernig yard. That blacktype came at the end of last prep when winning at Morphettville in the Centaurea. Really liked a jump out from her at Flemington a couple of weeks back and she certainly has the quality to beat these.

Race Four (14:10) : Moniek Sambor The Importer Handicap (78) 1200m:
Back Me: 6 Camdus (Bet Now: $3.70) was terrible here two back but bounced back to form in that race mentioned above when ridden a treat by Rawiller to get the job done. His confidence will be high now and he now should be at peak fitness
Big Danger: 13 Manhattan Blues (Bet Now: $12.00) comes through that Camdus race where he got a fair way back in the ruck and closed off okay late without threatening. Better suited around a turning track for sure, he’s hard fit, and he draws to sit wide with cover and ambush.
Roughie: 8 Lord Barrington (Bet Now: $16.00) is an ultra consistent type that is never far away. He ran a tick under two weeks ago at Bendigo when working to the line nicely to run third go Its Poets Day. That form probably doesn’t read nicely for this, but his prior form does.

Race Five (14:50) : The Resimax Stakes 1100m:
Back Me: Pretty keen here on the Team Snowden trained 4 Redzel (Bet Now: $7.00). Could not have been more impressive when winning at Canterbury, absorbing pressure on speed before booting clear and comfortably holding his rivals. Has since been to the trials and he looked outstanding in winning that, which was at Warwick Farm. Looks the winner to me.
Big Danger: 2 Shiraz (Bet Now: $7.00) resumed in the Carlyon last Saturday at the Valley and really, the run was totally inconclusive because he never got a clear crack to really show anything. I think he will be better suited on the bigger track and second up last time in he ran second in the Group l Galaxy.
Roughie: Big watch on talented sprinter 5 Diamond Oasis (Bet Now: $19.00), which makes his debut under Darren Weir. He was very good when trained by Joe Pride, winning a stack of races, the latest being the Bat Out of Hell (900m) at the Gold Coast. He is a very speedy customer, and with the Weir polish, he has to be respected enormously.

Race Six (15:30) : H.D.F McNeil Stakes 1200m:
Back Me: Really keen here on 5 Blue Tycoon (Bet Now: $5.50), who resumes for the Hayes/Dabernig yard. He was ultra impressive in two starts and wins towards the latter part of the Autumn, including a win over 1100m here. Tipped out immediately and his Flemington jump outs have been nothing short of outstanding. Really good depth in this race, but I am all over him.
Big Danger: 2 Seaburge (Bet Now: $7.00) is a stablemate of Blue Tycoon who has the runs on the board given he won the VRC Sires Produce before running midfield in the Sires at Randwick behind Yankee Rose. Jump out last week was very sharp and an indicator he is ready to run a beauty fresh.
Roughie: 8 China Dream (Bet Now: $34.00) is a maiden, and probably one of the better maidens going around. He has had two runs this time in and on both occasions he has been a shade unlucky. He performed very well in the Autumn in some high quality two year old races, plus he is fit and draws well.

Race Seven (16:10) : New Zealand Bloodstock Memsie Stakes 1400m:
Back Me: 7 Alpine Eagle (Bet Now: $14.00) for me here in what looks a cracking edition of the Memsie. He only had one run in the Autumn and quite frankly just forget he went around behind Tonopah given that horse walked them in front (first 1000m in over 65 seconds). Looked very impressive in a trial win at Tatura, beating home Melbourne Cup aspirtant Almoonwith. He has an outstanding fresh record and a lethal turn of foot when he gets conditions to suit.
Big Danger: 2 Black Heart Bart (Bet Now: $2.30) is a high class animal who could have easily won four Group l races in the Autumn/Winter had the bob of the head gone his way every time. Still, he won the Goodwood before a close second to Under The Louvre in the Stradbroke. Not sure where his fitness levels are at, but given he is with Darren Weir and is a sprinter/miler, no doubt he’ll be tuned up.
Roughie: I think 4 Charmed Harmony (Bet Now: $21.00) could be a sharp improver. Like most, I wasn’t fond of Williams and his steer on the horse in the Bletchingly where he had the horse wide no cover and the horse had no hope after that. Trial leading in was very good and he is a class act when at his best.

Race Eight (16:50) : Mypunter.com Heatherlie Stakes 1700m:
Back Me: 7 Provocative (Bet Now: $8.00) is the class runner engaged here and for mine a serious Caulfield Cup contender, so I’ll lean her way. The kiwi filly really came of age when in Queensland, highlighted of course by her spank job of her rivals in the Queensland Oaks. Had a jump out last week at Flemington, and for mine it was very good, especially her last 100m. Whatever she does here she will improve on, but she has the class on her side.
Big Danger: 4 Magnapal (Bet Now: $6.00) looks the big threat. There was alot to like about his effort in the P.B. Lawrence when closing off strongly late behind Miss Rose De Lago. He certainly would not have looked out of place in the Memsie but instead runs here in search of building towards a possible start in the Caulfield Cup. Hard to beat.
Roughie: 11 Second Bullet (Bet Now: $9.00) is one to watch fresh. Resumes here for Danny O’Brien after a little break between runs. 1700m is short of his best, but jump outs have been encouraging and he does have a very good record on the track.

Race Nine (17:20) : Ladbrokes Cockram Stakes 1200m:
Back Me: 2 Thames Court (Bet Now: $10.00) for me here. This is a quality mare for David Brideoake that put together two wins to kick off her Autumn being a horror show in a lead up to the SA Oaks where she was three and four wide no cover for the trip. Had a jump out last week at Mornington and though ridden out, she did look pretty good. I’m happy to be with her.
Big Danger: 13 Ocean Embers (Bet Now: $6.00) is the hard fit and ready mare. I think she has been a bit fortunate to win her two races this time in given she has been out wide and away from the carnage but credit where credit is due. Deserves some blacktype and if ever she is going to get some, this is it.
Roughie: 5 Choose (Bet Now: $9.50) is a quality mare that resumes for Team Hope. She ran some really good races in the Spring in some quality races, with her prep ending with a down the track effort at the Valley in the Sunline behind recent P.B. Lawrence winner Miss Rose De Lago. No public trials, but she is very good fresh.
