Canterbury is where Sydney racing takes place today with a seven event card and the Big6 legs are races 2-7. View Adam Page’s tips and selections.
Leg 1 – Very ordinary maiden to kick off the big6 for punters. Baabulu was very good on debut at Hawkesbury after getting well back before attacking the line strongly. Alli’s Aria hasn’t been far away of late and in a weak race, she can just about win. Both of these horses appear to handle wet tracks well so I’ll leave it between these two because I can’t make a case for the others.
Leg 2 – Have it down to five winning hopes. Ice Baby is resuming and looked well enough in a recent barrier trial to suggest she can show something first up. Rose Of Aranmore fought hard on debut at Kembla and will have improved since that effort. Gun kiiw rider Jason Collett rides and I wouldn’t be surprised if she won. Stubborn has had the one start, for a second behind former boom youngster Combat Kitty.
She won a recent barrier trial and I’d watch her very closely because Snowden horses don’t show much in barrier trials. Blazing Dragon is a first starter for Bart Cummings and she look ok in her latest barrier trial. The draw is no help but it has to be respected and Elfina looked very sharp in a Rosehill barrier trial and is a $525,000 yearling.
Leg 3 – Mongrel of a race. I’ll narrow it down to Chart, who was disappointing last start but can improve from the draw, Norma Betty’s Boy, who is tough, honest and will keep on keeping on and Lining, who flashed home last start and loves soft ground. Don’t be surprised if any other horse wins, but I think these three are the best credentials.
Leg 4 – I’d stand out Majestic Gem, but the barrier is a tricky one. In saying that, I still think he will be hard to beat because he is beautifully weighted against this lot. Myalla Gold is bombproof and although she hasn’t trialled, expect her to be ready for a first up win.
Romanus won a trial by a big space recently and looks the blowout horse while Cincinnati Sioux and Rosmerta both won their last starts and can win again.
Leg 5 – Titbit trialled well recently at Hawkesbury and although his best form was over longer in Europe, I think he can show something here. Classic Rush loves to lead and loves wet ground and he should get conditions to suit. Dyna Diva is resuming off a long spell but did trial well.
Leg 6 – I’ll be very surprised if Kim Heaven doesn’t beat this lot. She wasn’t far away in the Adrian Knox and that form looks good enough to take care of these. Cassidy sticks and when you look at her form, she is weighted to win it.
Leg 1: 3, 7
Leg 2: 1, 3, 4, 7, 8
Leg 3: 2, 3, 4
Leg 4: 1, 3, 6, 7, 8
Leg 5: 3, 4, 5
Leg 6: 5
