A strong card of racing has been assembled for Doomben on Saturday where the feature race is the Tatts Members Cup (1600m). The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out 2.5 metres for the entire circuit.
Race One (13:30) : Sapphire Recruitment Handicap 2200m:
Back Me: 3 Uno Five (Best Odds: $5.50) had been knocking on the door for a very long time and he finally got his win on the board a fortnight back at this track/distance when winning impressively. Now that he has got the winning feeling, he can go right on with it.
Big Danger: 1 Honey Toast (Best Odds: $2.30) is the class runner engaged here who steps up in trip after running over the mile here and tried hard when second to the impressive Right Or Wrong. He will love the step up in trip and should take some beating.
Roughie: 5 Cramming (Best Odds: $3.80) is on the back up last Saturday where he didn’t quite have the turn of foot but wasn’t far off Heart Of A Warrior, beaten just under five lengths. Better suited up in trip here, and two back he beat last weekend winner Outraged at the track/distance.
Race Two (14:05) : Winning Edge Presentations Handicap 1050m:
Back Me: 1 Two Shoes (Best Odds: $3.10) was heavily backed when racing here a fortnight back and just bolted up, aided by a lovely ride from apprentice Emma Ljung. This looks no harder and despite the weight rise, she’ll take some beating.
Big Danger: 8 Red Handle (Best Odds: $6.00) debuted behind Red Shoes and tried hard, but was no match for the winner. Gets a very nice weight pull on that horse, but the problem is that she has drawn wide. Definite threat if she can overcome it.
Roughie: 11 Thunder Raider (Best Odds: $51.00) debuts here for Darlene Duryea off the back of an impressive trial placing at Deagon behind the seemingly above average type Social Conquest. Draws a lovely gate and gets down in the weights after the claim.
Race Three (14:40) : IPG Connect Handicap (90) 1050m:
Back Me: 8 Heart Smart (Best Odds: $9.50) won well here two back before running over this track/distance a fortnight and wasn’t suited by the slow tempo when finishing down the track behind Lady Jetsetter. With a more genuine tempo here, he can bounce back to the winners list, but the pace will be a major factor as to how this horse goes.
Big Danger: Ramornie Handicap winner 1 Rock Royalty (Best Odds: $14.00) resumes here for Liam Birchley after a failed stint in Melbourne during the Spring, but in saying that he finished behind a couple of Group l performers. No trials, but is the clear class runner and can sprint well fresh.
Roughie: 3 Falino (Best Odds: $26.00) drops in grade after contesting the Falvelon (1200m) here last time out where he didn’t handle the give in the track at all behind Whiskey Allround. If the track is dry, he is a threat for sure. If there is any give in the track, put a line through him.
Race Four (15:17) : Tatts Arcade Handicap 1200m:
Back Me: 1 Someday (Best Odds: $3.50) has been excellent in two runs back from a break, the latest coming in the Falvelon (1200m) when running fourth to Whiskey Allround, beaten just over a length. Third up now, so he should be ready fitness wise and will take some beating.
Big Danger: 5 Adorabubble (Best Odds: $7.50) is on the back up from last Saturday where she got a well deserved win on the board, aided by a lovely ride from Brad Pengelly. Harder here, but she has performed well at this level and beyond, and gets nice weight relief.
Roughie: 2 Aussies Love Sport (Best Odds: $10.00) was very disappointing I thought last time out in the Southern Cross Stakes (1200m) at Randwick when finishing last to Big Money. I made him a horse to forget after that, but gee this looks a good race for him.
Race Five (15:57) : Tatts Member Cup 1600m:
Back Me: 3 Right Or Wrong (Best Odds: $1.65) has been one of the finds of Brisbane racing in recent times, winning three on the bounce, the latest over this track/distance two weeks back where he just finished powerfully and won with a bit of ease. This is his hardest test to date, but how can you ignore him when he is racing in such a purple patch.
Big Danger: 5 Trakstar (Best Odds: $10.00) ran fourth to Right Or Wrong in that race mentioned above and worked home well I thought when beaten just under three lengths. Draws gate one here and he does get a 1.5kg weight swing on the winner.
Roughie: 8 Punta Norte (Best Odds: $6.50) has had two runs back from a break, the latest over 1350m here two weeks back and finished eighth to Mischievous Devil, beaten just over two lengths. He has plenty of upside and if he can roll along, he’ll give some cheek.
Race Six (16:37) : Southbank Insurance Brokers Handicap (0MW) 1200m:
Back Me: 8 Majaska (Best Odds: $5.50) was uneasy in betting last time out at Canterbury yet tried very hard when running a close up third to Love And Lies, beaten just under a length. Stable knows when to send them away for a trip and this looks a very winnable race.
Big Danger: 6 My Little Flicka (Best Odds: $5.00) ran over this track/distance last Wednesday and was very impressive in sitting on speed most of the way and just bolted home, and did beat a couple of handy types. This looks not that much harder and stable is flying at the moment.
Roughie: 15 Tactician has been given a month freshen up since since running over 1400m at the Gold Coast when running a game third to proven city performer Lever Lever. The gelding is yet to race in town, but he is down in the weights and has enormous upside.
Race Seven (17:17) : Carlton Mid Plate (Class 6) 1350m:
Back Me: 10 Slydini (Best Odds: $6.00) ran over 1250m at Canterury last time out and was alright without being spectacular behind impressive type Suspense. Looks well placed here by Joe Pride, gate one and Jimmy Orman rides…gee he ticks alot of boxes.
Big Danger: 12 Spirit Of Heaven (Best Odds: $5.50) had her first run for Desleigh Forster over 1200m here three weeks back and was well backed in betting. That support was almost justified but had to settle for a close up second to Burleigh Bullet. That was a super effort and will only improve with the added fitness and extra tip.
Roughie: 3 L’Entrecote (Best Odds: $17.00) ran over this track/distance two weeks back when running sixth to Mischievous Devil, beaten just under two lengths. Bit surprised to see $17 on offer, because he is a quality galloper when at his best.
Race Eight (17:55): Allan Rhode 60th Handicap 1600m:
Back Me: 1 I’m Belucci (Best Odds: $4.50) attempted to lead all the way over this track/distance last time out and leading is clearly isn’t his go yet he kicked on strongly and just missed out on victory. Drawn wide now, so he should get back and produce his brilliant best.
Big Danger: 8 Halls Creek (Best Odds: $21.00) brokethrough for a well deserved maiden win last time out on his home track at the Gold Coast where he got a long way back in the run but just savaged the line and won with a bit in reserve. He can handle the step up to city grade without too much dramas.
Roughie: 12 The Umbrella Man (Best Odds: $14.00) ran sixth in that race I’m Belucci ran second in and his effort was alright without being spectacular. Draws wide again, so that’s a worry, but he looks to have his fair share of ability and should be around the mark with luck in running.
