Racing continues at Rosehill Gardens this Saturday for a bumper nine race program, highlighted by the $150,000 Golden Gift (1100m), with the winner just about assured a start in whatever feature race it desires. The weather is fine, the track is good (3) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

Race One (12:30) : Bedford CA Handicap (71) 1400m:

Back Me: Did originally look at this race on the proviso that 1 Zumbelina was going to the mares race later in the day but she instead runs here. That aside, I’m still with 3 Cadogan (Bet Now: $4.40), a colt who could be possibly heading towards the Magic Millions Guineas and he appears to be ticking over nicely. He ran over 1300m here a fortnight back and ran well but was simply no match for Zumbelina. Was held by that filly but he just has a horrible pattern of wanting to not handle the final turn. That really needs to be ironed out and if it does, he will be winning this race and better class events. Meets Zumbelina 3kg better off and has more upside.
Big Danger: 1 Zumbelina (Bet Now: $1.60) does go in as the main threat given  4 Miss Ballantine is out and won at Canterbury. Take nothing away from her, she was dominant in winning that race mentioned above, but she did have the sweet run behind the tempo and had the fitness edge of Cadogan. I think she is massive unders given she is a filly being asked to carry 60kg, but the field size ensures she is a threat.
Long Shot: 2 Fiery Trail (Bet Now: $5.00) had strong market support on Cup Day at Randwick in a maiden and got the chocolates after leading all the way before going to Warwick Farm last Wednesday over the mile where he again sat on speed and fought on well but couldn’t quite hold out Jemadar. Back to 1400m suits, he looks the leader, hard fit, in form…ticks alot of boxes.

Race Two (13:10) : Goldners Horse Transport Golden Gift 1100m:

Back Me: 11 Serena Bay (Bet Now: $2.50) looks a well above average filly for the Waterhouse/Bott stable. She debuted over the 900m at Kembla Grange and I am not sure about how strong the field was, but the manner in which she disposed of her rivals and how easy she did it was quite exciting. Extra 200m will be a little query I think, but she has super natural toe and has the run under the belt.
Big Danger: 6 Korma (Bet Now: $18.00) is the pick of the Godolphin youngsters to my eye. The son of Exceed And Excel has had the one trial, which came here on November 7 when closing off strongly under a hold to run third to Sima Yi. Looks to be a bit of promise about this galloper and we know the record the stable has with their youngsters.
Long Shot: 8 Reflectivity (Bet Now: $18.00) is an All Too Hard colt that is having his first start for Team Hawkes. He trialled well here behind Sima Yi before trialling last Thursday at Warwick Farm where he was given a good hit out and worked to the line with purpose between runners to run third. I think he will be better with time and experience, but he has the pedigree and stable to suggest he can sprint well on debut.

Race Three (13:45) : HQ Insurance Handicap (76) 1800m:

Back Me: 1 Eschiele (Bet Now: $6.50) was enormous in defeat last Saturday over 2000m here. He was stuck three wide no cover for the entire trip and the way the track played, he really had every right to drop out and finish last. The fact he had the audacity to kick on until the 200m mark was a run full of merit. Back to 1800m is perfect, he’s hard fit and the depth isn’t as strong here.
Big Danger: 3 Balmain Boy (Bet Now: $3.60) isn’t one of my horses, but the step up in trip appears as though it will suit. He ran over 1500m here a fortnight back and had the suck run behind the leader and eventual winner Moher. He just lacks a turn of foot but will keep on all day. His record isn’t flash, but he won’t get a better chance to win a race than here.
Long Shot: 5 The Rumour File (Bet Now: $67.00) is the sort of horse who could easily bob up in a race like this. His fresh effort at Caulfield behind Murt The Flirt was solid and the race as a form reference has been pretty good. He then went to the mile on Cup Day at Randwick and just couldn’t make ground, like most in the race, behind Sweet Redemption. That form reads very well and 1800m is more ideal for him. Big improver I think.

Race Four (14:20) : TAB Highway Handicap (Class 3) 1500m:

Back Me: 1 Delightful Feeling (Bet Now: $3.80) just looks the winner here, purely on weights/form. He ran over 1300m here in a Highway four weeks back and was given a smart ride by Christian Reith to win, coming from off the pace and timing his run to perfection. Draws a lovely gate and gets the 3kg claim for in form rider Nick Heywood, so he is only carrying 56kg, 2kg over the minimum for a 67 rater compared to the bottomweight, which is a 48 rater.
Big Danger: 12 Al Cubana (Bet Now: $4.60) ran second to Delightful Feeling in that Highway and gee his effort in defeat was very good. He got into a midfield position and just got held up a touch at a vital stage but when clear, he really attacked the line and just missed out. Meets Delightful Feeling at level weights here, but that effort was too good to ignore.
Long Shot: 11 The Nickster (Bet Now: $9.00) comes here off the back of a dominant on speed win during the Snake Gully Carnival at Gundagai, leading all the way to beat Hay Now, a horse with a really solid record. Joe Cleary has a really good record when bringing horses to town, and he has had done well in placing horses for the Highway events. This looks another.

Race Five (14:55) : Sire Custodians Handicap (84) 2400m:

Back Me: 6 Pursuit Of Honour (Bet Now: $3.80) is the form horse so I have to lean his way. He was a strong winner of the Provincial Final at Hawkesbury before coming here where he again got back in the run before racing here a fortnight back and though he probably didn’t beat much, he was really strong to the line and got the win. He is a progressive stayer with good promise so I’m happy to be in his corner.
Big Danger: 9 Zourkhan (Bet Now: $6.00) didn’t appear to beat much last time out at Kembla Grange but gee whatever he beat, he did it emphatically. He cruised to the front at the top of the straight and the question was whether or not he would go on with it. He did and comfortably. He has performed well in town previously so he can measure up here for sure.
Long Shot: 8 Mr Steal (Bet Now: $17.00) is on the back up for Bjorn Baker after racing last Saturday over 2000m where he did a bit of work on speed and though beaten on the turn, he stuck on pretty well I thought behind Multifacets. He has some pretty solid form when racing beyond 2000m and he does get map favours here, and that is when he is at his best.

Race Six (15:30) : Thoroughbred Breeders NSW Handicap (78) 1500m:

Back Me: 7 Unbiased (Bet Now: $4.60) was one of the more unlucky runners when resuming over this trip on Melbourne Cup Day, getting badly held up nearer the inside when appearing to have plenty to offer and couldn’t quite get full momentum. He does save his best racing for when he is produced earlier in the prep and the first up effort indicates that. He’ll go close with better luck.
Big Danger: 5 Asinara (Bet Now: $5.00) is a talented mare that was dreadful first up behind Metallic Crown then I am not sure what to make of the run behind Burning Passion. She looked as if she was going to burst through and be right in the finish 250m out but she didn’t exactly ping and just whacked away for a 1.7L sixth. Third up last time in she was very good in the Vinery Stud behind Single Gaze. Any sniff of that form here and she’ll go close.
Long Shot: 8 Francesco (Bet Now: $9.00) resumed under the lights at Canterbury and to the eye it was an okay run without setting the world on fire despite being well backed. He had three wide cover for the trip and when Blake Shinn presented him on the turn, he looked a massive threat but he just peaked on the run I suspect. Second up stats aren’t great, but he has always been a popular horse from a SP perspective and he did close off well behind Moher second up last prep.

Race Seven (16:10) : #theraces Handicap (90) 1400m:

Back Me: 3 Moher (Bet Now: $3.00) is somewhat of a Rosehill specialist who has been quite impressive in his last starts, both resulting in wins over 1500m here, and both times ridden a treat on speed. Dropping back to 1400m, to my eye, looks perfect, he looks as though he will dominate from the front and with a likely rock hard track, it will be no disadvantage having his racing pattern.
Big Danger: 4 Onerous (Bet Now: $9.00) is a talented gelding for Chris Waller who comes here off the back of a strong effort in the Subzero on Oaks Day where he looked as if he was going to win when he burst through nearer the inside, but he just couldn’t quite finish it off and settled for a close up second to Pepperano. Returns back to Sydney, and how about this for a form line. 4th up last time in he went within a lip of beating subsequent multiple Group l winner Malaguerra. Gee that reads well.
Long Shot: 8 Wine Tales (Bet Now: $12.00) nearly caused a massive boilover when resuming over 1200m here, just missing out on picking up talented mare Cana before racing a touch flat second up a fortnight back when last to Daysee Doom where she really struggled to stretch out. She is one of many runners on this program that ran a beauty fresh, then flat second up. Ready to bounce back third up now and I wouldn’t discount her as a possible place chance or exotics player.

Race Eight (16:50) : Roadwork Solutions Handicap (78) 1200m:

Back Me: 8 Interstellar (Bet Now: $2.15) is a mare I am really excited about. Resumes here for Team Hawkes after just one run in the Winter for the stable, which came at this track/distance and resulted in a brilliant on speed win. Spelled and has the potential to be Blacktype class. Trialled here last week and looked outstanding, sitting off speed before peeling three wide and winning the trial under a hold. Just needs to bring her A-game to win this I think.
Big Danger: This race has been depleted by scratchings so it falls away a bit. I thought 13 Pepperberry (Bet Now: $13.00) was a big flop two back at Canterbury behind Dagny before she dropped back to the provincials at Beaumont-Newcastle where she beat all bar Coys, who has been proven in town previously. She’ll get the lovely sit behind Interstellar here and is a knockout hope.
Long Shot: There is a touch of quality about the Matty Dunn trained 4 Madotti. (Bet Now: $12.00) She is a proven Stakes performer who resumes here after an indifferent Winter where she ran well in quality races but couldn’t quite get the job done. Trial at the Gold Coast was okay, she draws to get a suck run off the pace near the rail and she does have some really good fresh form behind above average horses.

Race Nine (17:30) : Tab.com.au Handicap (78) 1100m:

Back Me: 8 Upscale (Bet Now: $2.90) was well liked by most when racing at this track/distance four weeks back and for the most part, she looked the winner but she took an absolute eternity to pick up Highly Geared, but Avdulla shoved her over the final strides to lift her home. He remains on her, which is a big tick, plus she looks as though she will get the ideal drag over courtesy of Firsthand.
Big Danger: 10 Twist Tops (Bet Now: $15.00) is a talented filly for Kris Lees who returns back to NSW after running down the straight during Cup Week and just being outclassed behind Spright. That followed an impressive trial and a strong first up effort at Warwick Farm. She performed well in the Autumn as a two year old in some quality races. She is another that can bounce back third up.
Long Shot: 13 Rose Of Man (Bet Now: $13.00) isn’t one of my horses, but the scratchings does ensure she won’t be too far away like she was at Canterbury last time out when settling last and staying there behind Infra Dig. She did SP around $4.80 there and now you can take $15 and better. She does appear the overs in the race and she will get a soft trip on the fence and look to ambush late.
