The course proper at Morphettville has had a couple of weeks rest but is back up and ready to fire this Saturday for a strong eight race card. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.
Race One (13:21) : Action Line Marking Handicap (70) 1500m:
Back Me: 2 Something More (Bet Now: $3.50) was ridden an absolute treat by Jason Holder to win on the Parks track last time out, settling off the pace before pouncing at the right time and getting the job done narrowly but impressively. I have reservations about her running a strong 1540m against this lot, but perhaps a cold ride could see her do that. If she is the hunter and not the hunted, she is in the mix.
Big Danger: 6 Beautiful Voice (Bet Now: $2.90) appreciated the drop back to the provincials last time out at Balaklava in a maiden, settling off the tempo before Claridge pushed the button and away she went for a five length. She was 1600m back to 1400m that afternoon so back up to 1500m is a tick and her turn of foot will come into play here with the small field.
Long Shot: 4 Guns Loaded (Bet Now: $6.50) is the knockout chance here. He ran in a maiden over the mile here on Cup Day and on face value, I didn’t think much of the win because he started $26 and seemingly didn’t beat much, but there have been four subsequent winners to come out of that maiden, including Beautiful Voice, so that just elevates him big time as a major threat here, keeping in mind he does have the hard mile run under the belt.
Race Two (13:56) : Daimler Trucks Australia Handicap (82) 2500m:
Back Me: 5 Robocop (Bet Now: $3.50) ran over 2400m on the Parks track a fortnight back where he sat off speed and chased hard the entire straight but was simply no match for the impressive tearaway winner Flying Casino. Hard 2500m will be right up his alley, he’s getting hard fit now and he look well placed to bounce back into the winners list.
Big Danger: 3 Bullitt County (Bet Now: $3.80) is a horse who is in ripping form at the moment for Grant Young, winning three races in as many weeks, the latest coming last Saturday over 1950m where he looked in a spot of bother before Poon barged his way into the clear and the horse attacked the line with purpose to get the job done. 2500m is a different, but he gets in well at the weights once again and the way he finishes off, I think the distance won’t be an issue.
Long Shot: 7 Duquessa (Bet Now: $6.00) is a mare who can be hard to follow but is quite capable of measuring up to this on her day. She ran over 2200m at Gawler last Wednesday where she got back and held up before the turn and looked in trouble but once she balanced up, she really attacked the line to grab victory in the last stride. She’ll have no issue with 2500m and is down in the weights again.
Race Three (14:31) : Roadside Service & Solutions Handicap (70) 1050m:
Back Me: 1 Showpero (Bet Now: $2.75) comes back to SA after a two run campaign during the Melbourne Spring where she ran okay without setting the world on fire. The second of those starts came down the straight on Oaks Day where she settled out the back and finished off okay late behind Spright. If she brings her form from last prep, she just about wins, but as to how well she is going remains to be seen.
Big Danger: 3 Vivaldi’s Quest (Bet Now: $6.00) trialled well behind some handy types before debuting at Murray Bridge last Wednesday where he was smashed in betting, starting $2.60 and the punters faith was rewarded with a dominant on speed win and he looked to do a bit wrong. Gets the map favours here, he is up and running and gets the claim for Spain.
Long Shot: 2 Time Out (Bet Now: $10.00) is a consistent gelding for Richard Jollywho is first up here after a very solid Autumn/Winter prep. He ran second to Showpero last time in and while well beaten it was still a sound effort. No trials, but there does appear to be good speed here, which should give him every chance to sit back and run on late.
Race Four (15:07) : Plumbing & Pipeline Solutions Handicap (82) 1600m:
Back Me: 9 Brown Ben (Bet Now: $2.70) looks just about a standout here. Gee has been impressive at his past two, over 1300m and 1400m respectively on the Parks track and on both occasions he got back to last in the run and swooped, running sub 35 for his final 600m both times. He gives the impression he will eat up the mile, the stable is low flying and has upside.
Big Danger: 5 Mail It In (Bet Now: $2.50) had all the momentum and spanked them to win two back before racing over the same track/distance of 1550m on the Parks track where he looked in awful trouble at the top of the straight when held up but Lindop ducked back to the inside and he just savaged the line to win impressively. Yet to win on the course proper but he has run some good races in quality events.
Long Shot: 10 Burnro (Bet Now: $61.00) ran over this track/distance three weeks back where he sat wide most of the way and stuck to the task pretty well I thought when fourth to impressive winner Beau’s My Boy and that form held up with the runner up winning last Saturday. If he can get better luck here, I think he can improve enough to be a force.
Race Five (15:42) : Wylie Dalziel Racing Handicap (90) 1050m:
Back Me: 1 Casino Wizard, (Bet Now: $3.40) despite the impost, is the clear top pick for me here. He flashed home two back in the Durbridge behind Cavaloce before racing over this track/distance three weeks back where he should have absolutely bolted in but just had no luck at a vital stage when a close second to Bay Road. Looks to be good speed here, so he’ll get his chance to ambush, and he is the hard fit/in form horse.
Big Danger: 3 Tarco (Bet Now: $2.80) failed behind O’Malley at the Valley on Cox Plate before racing down the straight during Cup Week and running a close up fourth to Redzel and Terravista, which is Group l form. That just reads so well for a race of this class and if he brings his best, he is right in the mix.
Long Shot: 8 Deiheros (Bet Now: $28.00) is the watch horse. He hasn’t really fired a shot since winning the Magic Millions Guineas a couple of years back but on his day, we know he is a quality animal. He only raced twice last time in and both times finishing down the track behind Usain Dane and Illustrious Lad respectively. That form reads fantastic and he did trial well here a couple of weeks ago.
Race Six (16:22) : Delnorth International Handicap (75) 1200m:
Back Me: 8 Battle Brewing (Bet Now: $3.60) is a talented type for the Macdonald/Gluyas who produced a lovely turn of foot to win here fresh over Septamore, who has since run well on Ararat Cup Day and Ballarat Cup Day. Battle Brewing then ran three weeks back and was game in defeat when fourth to Mio Dio, who has franked the form since, so he ticks most of the boxes here and rates highly to my eye.
Big Danger: 16 Beau Rivage (Bet Now: $6.00) is in pretty solid form in recent times. He made up ground late to run fifth to Mio Dio two back, who has won twice since. He then ran over the 1250m on the Parks track a fortnight back and was game when a close up third to Penny For A Pound. He has a solid record on the course proper and appears to map well here.
Long Shot: 6 Miss Adele (Bet Now: $18.00) is a handy mare that is hot and cold but on her day she is talented. She comes through the same formlines as Battle Brewing, finishing behind that horse two back before having market support and disappointing her supporters behind Mio Dio. If she turns up in the right frame of mind, she can easily knock this field off.
Race Seven (17:02) : Tonkin Consulting Handicap (64) 1050m:
Back Me: 6 Magnus Knight (Bet Now: $6.50) for me here in a really tricky event to sort out. He is a handy four year old who resumes for Ryan Balfour who hasn’t raced since early June when running a close up second to Pomp over 1100m here. Good break and he looks to have come back in good order based on a trial here on November when running third to Viceroy. Keep in mind that first up last prep, which was at this track/distance, he had no luck behind Viddora/Miss Gunpowder, which is genuine Stakes class form.
Big Danger: 15 Lexgetreddy (Bet Now: $12.00) performed well at this track/distance on Cup Day before appreciating the drop back to the provincials at Balaklava eight days later and getting the job done. Comes back to town and I think his best chance of winning is if he is ridden stone cold and having the last say. If that eventuates, he’ll go close.
Long Shot: 8 Viceroy (Bet Now: $6.00) is the clear watch horse. He performed okay during the Autumn/Winter but for the most part, he struggled to handle the wet tracks. Been given a good break and gee he looked to trial well here on November 4, winning comfortably and running solid time. If he brings his best and strikes a firm track, he’ll be the one to beat.
Race Eight (17:42) : Advanced Transport Refrigeration Handicap (64) 1600m:
Back Me: 14 Tia (Bet Now: $17.00) is a mare in really good for Phillip Stokes. She comes through an apprentices only race at Gawler where she looked the clear standout on paper and young Huxtable rode her accordingly, resulting in a dominant and comfortable victory. Now that she has that winning feeling in the system, I think she can go on with it in a race with not much depth.
Big Danger: 8 Devilishly (Bet Now: $10.00) is on the back up after racing last Saturday on the Parks track where she had no luck in the straight despite appearing to have plenty to offer when finishing third to Just Live On. She didn’t have much the start prior behind Mail It In, who won next start, so the form around her reads well and she’ll appreciate racing on the bigger track.
Long Shot: 2 Mullinger Lane (Bet Now: $15.00) should be forgiven for his last start failure at 1400m on the Parks track when fifth to Brown Ben given he just copped too much pressure on speed and it was a race where the swoopers came to the fore. Also should be noted he has a horror second up so third up now he should be ready to fire back third up from a break and is a winner at the mile.
