Country Cups racing in Victoria continues on Wednesday at Bendigo where it is Bendigo Cup Day. The weather is overcast, the track is good (4) and the rail is out four metres from the 1400m-700m; True for the remainder.
Race One (12:00) : Poyser Trucks Isuzu Maiden Plate 1100m:
Back Me: 5 City Of Pearls (Bet Now: $6.50) ran under the lights at Cranbourne a tick under two weeks back where he sat back near last in the run and worked home with purpose late to run fourth to Speedeor. I think the extra 100m will suit this gelding, as will racing on a bigger track. The one to beat.
Big Danger: 9 Inaminute (Bet Now: $8.50) is a first starter for local trainer Shane Fliedner. Comes here with no official trials, but being trained on the track, expect him to be wound up and ready to something fresh, and the breeding suggests he’ll come to handy early.
Roughie: 12 Sunita (Bet Now: $14.00) is an Arrowfield first starter here for Robbie Griffiths who comes here off the back of a couple of handy trial efforts, the latest coming last Monday at Cranbourne when running second. Scratched from Benalla on Monday for this, so I’ll respect that move.
Race Two (12:30) : Newmarket Hotel & Bakery Maiden Plate 1400m:
Back Me: 10 Tax Dancer (Bet Now: $4.80) ran here on Caulfield Cup Day where he had a suck run off the speed befoer shoving into the clear at the top of the straight and looking a threat, but he couldn’t quite pick up late behind So Poysed and had to settle for fourth. Should get a charmed run again and this isn’t a strong race.
Big Danger: 7 Prime Appeal (Bet Now: $4.40) resumed at Cranbourne where she got back near midfield on the rail before getting clear and working home okay late in the piece. Draws to be out of trouble here and can sit back and ambush this thin field.
Roughie: 11 Serenity Rose (Bet Now: $6.50) is the complete unknown here. Debuts for the Bussutin/Young stable with no official trials/jump outs next to her name, and the breeding isn’t all that inspiring, but you always have to respect the stable with their first starters, and they did scratch from Benalla to tackle this harder maiden.
Race Three (13:00) : Orange Pride Handicap (64) 1400m:
Back Me: 1 Magnarock (Bet Now: $2.90) has been given a tick over three weeks to freshen up since running an absolute beauty in a Stakes race at Flemington where he just missed out on victory behind Inside Agent in a race where the form was franked on Caulfield Cup Day. Home track, class…keen.
Big Danger: 3 Flash Boy (Bet Now: $4.20) ran over this track/distance on Caulfeild Cup Day where he had a nice sit off the speed before Daniel Moor eased him out and he chased hard in the straight to wear down the leader Fox Hall, he himself looks above average, so that form is pretty good to my eye and he has upside.
Roughie: 5 Rockstar Rebel (Bet Now: $9.00) was unwanted in betting when resuming on the Geelong Synthetic but gee he let down hard late when asked by Johnny Allen to get the win in the last stride. Stable had better performed horses nominated but instead stick with this galloper, so watch the market.
Race Four (13:35) : No Fuss Event Hire Handicap (64) 1100m:
Back Me: Going with 4 Aurelius Hero (Bet Now: $8.00). This five year old hasn’t raced since finishing a close up fourth at Caulfield behind the Group l performed Lucky Liberty. The run prior at the Valley was a ripper also, so he is flying to my eye, and this is a significant drop down in depth. Handles Bendigo well and given his recent form, the weight looks perfect. Just needs normal luck and I think he will take a stack of beating.
Big Danger: 6 Fire Agate (Bet Now: $8.00) resumed over this track/distance on October 6 on a bottomless surface where he sat on speed and fought on very well in the straight when second to the very talented Darren Weir three year old Moonlites Choice, who was nominated for a Stakes race on Cox Plate Day, so you have to respect that, plus this bloke has upside and the firmer track will be right up his alley.
Roughie: 12 Neat And Tidy (Bet Now: $7.50) is a handy mare that resumes for the Ellerton/Zahra stable. She hasn’t raced since early August at Sandown when sitting on speed and tiring late behind Refuse To Lose. Jump outs have been pretty good to the eye and she does tend to do her best racing when produced fresh. Definite market watch.
Race Five (14:10) : Bet365 Handicap (70) 1100m:
Back Me: 4 Strykinglee (Bet Now: $1.80) was a real eye catcher when resuming over the short course at Cranbourne where she sat back in the run and worked home strongly late when running a close up third to Runson. Significant drop in depth here and looks a lovely race for her.
Big Danger: 9 Flying Spark (Bet Now: $8.50) is a handy mare that resumes on her home track for Shane Fliedner. She ran some quality races last time in, mostly here at Bendigo where she got back and kept running on. 1100m is short of her best, but being her hometown cup, I suspect she’ll be wound up to run a beauty fresh.
Roughie: 2 Emerenta (Bet Now: $17.00) is a talented and tough mare that resumes for Alicia Macpherson. She hasn’t raced since late August when finishing down the track behind Lord Barrington. She can sprint well fresh, and with the rail out, I don’t think it will be a disadvantage to be on speed.
Race Six (14:45) : TCL QUHD TV Handicap (78) 1100m:
Back Me: 2 Chase The Horizon (Bet Now: $2.25) had some really market support when racing on his home track at Caulfield on September 17 where he had the charmed run behind the tempo before Zahra shoved into the clear and he got the job done impressively. That followed a luckless run behind Lord Barrington at the same track. That looks pretty good form for a race like this, and he does have a touch of quality about him.
Big Danger: 1 Duibio (Bet Now: $3.50) is the clear watch horse. On potential he is clearly the best horse in the race and does find a very winnable race. He resumes here for Ciaron Maher off the back of a sharp trial win at Cranbourne last Monday. Sprints well fresh and only run here came on Golden Mile where he was enormous in defeat behind Society Man.
Roughie: 3 Glenrowan Prince (Bet Now: $21.00) was a tough on speed winner when saluting first up at Mornington before going to Cranbourne where he perhaps had the second up syndrome behind Runson. He has a really good record at Bendigo and maps very well here. Knockout hope.
Race Seven (15:20) : The Schweppes Tonic Handicap (70) 1300m:
Back Me: Going with 1 Chamois Road (Bet Now: $5.50). This talented gelding for Patrick Payne hasn’t raced since bolting up at Mildura in mid August which followed strong efforts in Adelaide. Trial at Cranbourne looked very good to the eye, he has upside…ticks alot of boxes.
Big Danger: 3 Schneller (Bet Now: $7.50) is on the back up after racing on Sunday at Hamilton where he sat in speed most of the way and gave a really good kick in the straight when challenged to win impressively. That was his first run in a month, so there should be upside and rates highly.
Roughie: 10 Burning Mountain (Bet Now: $15.00) ran on the Pakenham Synthetic last time out and he worked home with purpose late to run a close up fourth to the above average type Colerne. That form, I think, reads very well for a race like this and he gets really good weight relief here.
Race Eight (16:00) : Jayco Bendigo Cup 2400m:
Back Me: 8 Our Century (Bet Now: $2.40) ran over 2400m on Blue Sapphire Day where he sat on speed from the wide gate and showed some real guts in the straight when strongly challenged by Firenze, in the end putting that horse away and going on with it. Comes here with upside, down in the weights and he’ll be out of trouble and giving them something to chase.
Big Danger: Giving 1 Howard Be Thy Name (Bet Now: $3.90) one more chance. I was really keen on him in the Herbert Power, but gee I thought he was very poor in defeat behind Assign, showing no dash at all despite a soft trip. He is much better than that, and really, if he brings his best, he probably wins. But it’s just an unknown as to where he is at.
Roughie: 5 Ferro Nero (Bet Now: $12.00) ran over 2000m at Caulfield last time out where he sat back in the run before Walker peeled him wide on the turn and gee he let down hard in the straight to overhaul Data Point in the last couple of strides. I don’t think he’ll have an issue running 2400m and I think that form is solid enough to be competitive here.
Race Nine (16:40) : Symes Motors BMW Handicap (90) 1400m:
Back Me: 4 Sweet Fire (Bet Now: $5.50) is such the interesting runner here. Former Chris Waller runner that is now under the care of Darren Weir. She has done bugger all in four previous first up attempts, but we know the record Weir has with these tried horses. Big market watch.
Big Danger: 5 Spy Decoder (Bet Now: $7.00) has been a major disappointment for some time now, but gee he strikes a very winnable race. He ran at Caulfield last time out and worked home okay without really threatening behind Murt The Flirt. I can’t remember an easier race for him…gets his chance. But on the flip side, he is impossible to trust.
Roughie: 3 Streetwise Savoire (Bet Now: $5.50) could be the one to back on an each way basis at massive odds. He caught the eye first up at the Valley in a hot form race behind Fast cash before going to Caulfield where he was solid once again behind Murt The Flirt. Third up now, so he should be ready fitness wise and the bigger track will really suit.
Race Ten (17:20) : Aquafil Fresh Handicap (70) 1600m:
Back Me: 5 The Chairman (Bet Now: $2.80) ran on Moe Cup Day and he closed off very well late in the piece when second to Curragh, who is well above average. He is third up at 1600m which looks ideal and stable is low flying. Hard to beat.
Big Danger: 2 King Of England (Bet Now: $3.30) resumed over the mile at Caulfield on Blue Sapphire Day where he got back in the run and pretty much just stayed there when finishing eighth behind Plot The Course. That form looks very strong for a race like this, he has upside and Williams steers.
Roughie: 10 Loveheart Lass (Bet Now: $10.00) hasn’t raced for over a month since running a game second on the Pakenham Synthetic behind King Taros. Record doesn’t read great, but that was his second run in eight months, so he has enormous upside and appears very well weighted.
