Toowoomba will play host to their biggest raceday this Saturday with a nine race program, highlighted by four feature races. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (13:13) Ag Rigging Plate (c3) 1850m
In the corner of 2 Kimpembe (Bet Now: $2.25) for the Chris Waller team. This four year old has win two on the bounce, both coming over 1800m. Backed as if unbeatable when bolting up at the Gold Coast two back before racing last Wednesday at Eagle Farm and he wasn’t as impressive, but still got the job done. Perhaps with a more conservative steer, we’ll see what he produced at Ipswich as well as the Gold Coast.
7 Coco Fashion (Bet Now: $3.50) is racing pretty well at the moment for Chris Munce and is a live chance here. Won with a bit of authority two back at Ipswich before racing at Eagle Farm last Wednesday where she was tucked in behind the speed and presented at the right time to win. Just couldn’t finish it off when second to Okanagan Miss. Little query at the trip but think with a cold ride, she’ll be okay.
11 Rhyme Time (Bet Now: $6.00) should appreciate the rise in trip for the Lindsey Hatch team. Ran over 1700m at Ipswich last time out where she didn’t get the clearest of paths in the straight and was a little unlucky when fourth, beaten under a length. The rise in trip suits and the 3kg claim ensures she is a leading contender here.
Race 2. (13:48) Barrier Reef Pools (bm85) 1625m
This is just about D-Day for the Michael Costa trained 3 Supergiant (Bet Now: $2.15). Happy to forgive the first up run behind The Candy Man when wide throughout. He then went to the Brisbane Handicap and I think you have to mark him down as disappointing behind Skate To Paris. Anywhere near his best, he wins this. Just want to see him do it.
The Currie team should be seriously respected on their home track on the big day so 2 Junction (Bet Now: $5.50) has to be in the mix here. He was a surprising but impressive first up winner at Eagle Farm but in two subsequent runs, he has been just fair. Fourth up now, should be hard fit and he does have a good record on the home track.
4 Plitvice (Bet Now: $9.50) is a knockout chance here at odds. Rob Heathcoate trained gelding that has had two runs back from a spell, both over 1350m at Doomben and each time he has looked like he wants further, which is what he gets here, and he is 3/3 when produced third up, so if he is decent odds, more than happy to speck each way.
Race 3. (14:23) Toowoomba Plastics Plate (c6) 1200m
Tricky race on paper but 14 Oh Five Glory (Bet Now: $3.90) is just so well in at the weights here for the Hulbert team. Ran at Doomben two weeks ago when on speed and trying hard. Just couldn’t quite finish it off when third to Chico Milagro. She’s come back and third up from a break, she should be close to peak fitness.
6 Moonshine Lady (Bet Now: $10.00) is a quality mare that was out of sorts for a few runs, but bounced back to her best with a strong win at Doomben three weeks ago when surging hard late and lifted by Adin Thompson to get the job done. If she holds her form, like she did when last in work, she’ll take some beating.
1 Piracy (Bet Now: $13.00) has been with the Sears camp for a little while but this will be the first time he has raced on his home track. Very game in defeat at Doomben a fortnight back when on speed and trying hard, finishing a close up third to impressive winner Fisticuffs. Gets run of the race from the gate and the claim helps.
Race 4. (15:02) Toowoomba Guineas 1625m
Good test here for the Michael Costa trained filly 7 Miss Cabaret (Bet Now: $3.10) but I think she’s up to it. She is 2/2 to start her career. Debuted with a win over 1400m at the Gold Coast before stepping up to the mile at Doomben three weeks ago and I really liked the way she found the line under pressure, proving strongest late to win. She can make it 3/3.
6 The Actuary (Bet Now: $2.35) looks a big improver here. Tony Gollan trained filly that won the Phoenix towards the end of the Winter Carnival before being spelled. Resumed over 1350m at Doomben where she sat back off the speed but loomed strongly early on in the straight to win. Just reckon condition gave out late. Fitter and up to the mile she appeals.
4 Calm Seeker (Bet Now: $8.50) is a colt I do have time for. Matty Kropp trained son of Complacent that has won two of his three career outings. Latest run came at this track/distance in a Prelude to this race when sitting off the speed before Bubba Tilley found clear air on him and he was strongest to the line. Harder here, but he’s got ability.
Race 5. (15:42) T'mba Truck Spares Pat O'shea 1000m
3 Mishani Scandal (Bet Now: $4.40) on top. Son of Jet Spur for Les Ross that comes here off the back of a win at the Deagon trials last Tuesday, winning a 650m trial and looking to go about his business quite nicely under Tomlinson. Jimmy Orman would have had first pick of the Les Ross runners and goes with this guy, so that’s the lead I’ll take.
A key threat here for me is 1 Sherwood Prince (Bet Now: $6.50), a Better Than Ready colt on debut for the Glenn Richardson camp. He trialled here last Tuesday and won the trial, leading throughout, and what I liked is that when Hannah English asked for an effort, the response was instant and he was much too good. Has had two trials, so he’s had a decent grounding.
2 Mishani Operator (Bet Now: $5.50) is a son of Domesday for Les Ross. He ran second in a 650m Deagon trial won by stablemate Mishani Untamed. He was near the speed throughout and asked for an effort, but did respond and was good late. Looks to have a bit of scope leading into this race, but I’d watch the market.
Race 6. (16:22) Spirit Of Boom (bm72) 1050m
3 Le Palmier (Bet Now: $2.70) is a horse who saves his best for when he has fresh legs so I do like the set up here by Tony Gollan. This gelding hasn’t raced since August 29 when doing work on speed but proved too strong for his rivals in the run to the line in winning. Tick over trial was quite good and he’s a short course specialist.
14 Mick The Hat (Bet Now: $9.00) has been the subject of good support here and not hard to see why. He has the Team Sears polish and their strike rate has been brilliant since starting up, around 27%. Key chances are drawn wide here whereas he has gate one, sprints well fresh and I can see Luke Tarrant taking full advantage of the draw.
Back to 1050m I do like for the Kelly Schweida trained 11 Aheadofhistime (Bet Now: $12.00). Even though he did win fresh at 1110m, I think he is much better suited at 1000m, so the 1050m is a positive. Was on him at Doomben last time out and was afforded every chance I felt behind surprise winner Conquer The Stars. His best is good enough.
Race 7. (16:58) Toowoomba Cup 2000m
This looks a real plan by Jason Edwards when it comes to 4 Sir Barnabus (Bet Now: $5.50). Strong winner at Eagle Farm on August 1 before being freshened up and racing at Doomben two weeks ago where he just looked like he would improve with the run when fourth to Humbolt Current. Confident he bounces back and will run a bold race.
5 Reckless Choice (Bet Now: $3.70) has found winning form and he can go right on with it now. Was really keen on him last Wednesday at Eagle Farm and punters agreed, backing him into odds on from $3 and under a patient steer from Huxtable, he was much too good. Up to 2000m I do like and now he has winning form, can win again.
2 Alward (Bet Now: $6.00) can bounce back here for Chris Waller. Good off a freshen up, beaten a lip by Kaonic. Then raced behind Humbolt Current where he tried to make a midrace move but just felt the pinch late and couldn’t sustain it. Think if he can get a decent drag up into the race, he’ll be dangerous at a price.
Race 8. (17:38) Weetwood Handicap 1200m
I think this is a really good kick off point for the Desleigh Forster trained 13 Red Chase (Bet Now: $8.00), who was one of the real finds of the Winter Carnival, winning four on the bounce before being spelled, the last run being June 6, so there is some form of residual fitness on his side and with two trials under the belt, he’s ready to go I’d suggest.
If 4 The Odyssey (Bet Now: $3.50) can stretch his brilliance to 1200m against this class of horse, he will take a power of beating. Got it too good in front when resuming two weeks ago at Doomben and he took full advantage, leading throughout and spanking them, including Alligator Blood. He’ll look the winner at some stage I’m sure.
9 Mr Marbellouz (Bet Now: $13.00) was a beaten favourite in this race last year and looks to have been targeted for this race once again. His three runs back from a long spell have been pretty good I think, the latest behind The Odyssey where he ran 33.2 for the Last 600m, so Mr Marbellouz would have had to run sub 33…no chance. Going well and finally gets to 1200m.
Race 9. (18:15) K&r Plumbing Supplies (bm80) 1300m
In the corner of 4 Fasano (Bet Now: $3.70) for the Rob Heathcoate team. He’s had two runs back from a spell, both at Eagle Farm. Resumed with a win over 1200m before racing over 1300m last Wednesday where he was just off the speed and tried hard. Just couldn’t quite get there when third to Ditmas. His pattern is good fresh, touch flat second up, then a third up bounce back, so hoping that pattern continues here.
9 Voila (Bet Now: $5.50) is mixing her form but her best is clearly good enough to be around the mark here. Comes through the Ziemba race from a fortnight back at Doomben when near last in the run but closed off strongly late to run fourth to the Heathcoate runner. If she’s within range on the turn with clear, she’s good enough.
If 5 Shogun Sun (Bet Now: $16.00) can’t run well here, North Queensland would have to beckon surely. Over two years since he has won a race, but his two runs back from a spell haven’t been too bad. Ran last Wednesday at Eagle Farm when near the speed throughout and battled away well behind Ditmas. Third up, hard fit now, last chance.
