The Belmont Carnival continues this Saturday with the Birthday Stakes (1200m) potentially being a focus for the upcoming Summer Carnival. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.
Black Heart Bart Stakes 🏆: View the Field for the Black Heart Bart Stakes
Race 1. (14:18) Tabtouch W'speed Platinum Mdn 1200m
On top is 11 Wednesday (Bet Now: $3.10) but not a great deal of confidence in a tricky maiden to start the meeting. She was unwanted in betting when racing over the 1000m here on debut but I liked the way she found the line late in a tidy first up effort. She’ll come on from that you would assume and this race doesn’t have much depth.
4 Devil’s Dust (Bet Now: $5.00) should be suited up to 1200m for the Giadresco camp. Last run came over 1100m at York where he just lacked the turn of foot to go with them when the sprint went on, but picked up and was good late to run third. He’ll appreciate the rise to 1200m on a bigger track and Winkers go on to sharpen him up.
7 Powderbelle (Bet Now: $18.00) is one I could entertain for wider multiples. She resumed over 1100m at York and was never really a winning factor, but did make up ground late. Noteworthy her 1100m maiden was run in slower time than Devil’s Dust the same meeting, so in that regard, Devil’s Dust has the measure, but this girl could be value given she was only first up.
Race 2. (14:57) Amelia Park Plate 1000m
Good race this with some likely types. If 6 Friday Knight (Bet Now: $2.80) can sit a pair or two closer in the run from his debut two weeks ago here, he’s the one to beat. Given the race shape, he wasn’t really suited, but loved the way he closed off, and actually clocked the best late splits of the meeting when third to Brooklyn Pier. If he can sit closer, he’s the one.
Big watch here on 4 Dunbar (Bet Now: $5.00), an unbeaten Vancouver 3YO that resumes for Team Williams. Started his career in the latter part of the Autumn, winning 2/2, including a win at this track/distance before being spelled. Not sure what the stable has in mind for him, maybe the WA Guineas? Interesting to see what the market does.
3 Brooklyn Pier (Bet Now: $6.00) is a Neville Parnham trained three year old that resumed as a gelding here two weeks back where he was a notable drifter in betting, somewhat unwanted, but it mattered not to him as he had the beaut sit near the speed and he was too strong in the run to the line. Can he repeat the dose?
Race 3. (15:37) Glenroy Chaff Plate 1400m
Tricky race but think there is upside with 5 Chiclett (Bet Now: $3.00) for the Pearce camp. Both runs back from a spell have come at Northam, placing first up before getting the suck run in behind the speed and in a driving go, finished best. Does she want a rise in trip now? Potentially, but the depth here overall isn’t overly strong.
3 Captain Burglar (Bet Now: $4.80) is a son of Safeguard for the Neville Parnham team that had trialled up really well prior to resuming over 1200m here where Chris Parnham put him into a lovely spot just off the pace before angling into clear air and despite not really showing change up speed, he did enough to win. Think 1400m is okay and is a key threat.
6 Type Won (Bet Now: $4.80) looks to have her share of talent for Kieran McDonagh. Resumed over 1200m here last Saturday when on speed and she showed a good kick under pressure. Just couldn’t quite finish it off when nabbed late by Indigo Blue in what looked a race with depth, more than what she faces, so I like the quick back up.
Race 4. (16:17) Seacorp (bm72+) 2000m
Now she has got a win on the board, 5 Leading Girl (Bet Now: $1.45) can go on with it. I thought she was a milk drinker and turned it up on a number of occasions, but the win two weeks ago here was very good. Sat back, peeled wide and surged hard late to get up and win. Off that, the rise to 2000m suits and she’s got the brilliance to beat these I think.
2 Mackenzie Brooke (Bet Now: $6.00) looks the only legitimate threat on paper, but even her credentials are a tad on the questionable side. Resumed over 2200m here when off the speed and finding the line strongly, just missing out on the win when second to Montelena. Freshened up and back in trip, whatever she does here she’ll improve on, but should run well regardless.
Back up in trip I do like for 1 Noir De Rue (Bet Now: $13.00). He was 2200m back to the mile when racing here two weeks ago. He had a good run in transit and did try hard, just lacked the turn of foot when fifth to Leading Girl. Off that, can’t see him turning the tables, but the thing going for him is the rise back up to 2000m.
Race 5. (16:53) Vale Keith Watson (bm78+) 1600m
1600m has to be a query with 2 Money Matters (Bet Now: $2.10) but think he’s got the class to get away with it. On the quick back up after racing in the Nicopolis last Saturday over 1200m where he ran his usual honest race when third to Celebrity Queen. Racing like he wants further, but straight to the mile within a week? We’ll see, but banking on class.
1 Harry Thomas (Bet Now: $15.00) is suited up to the mile for the Price camp. Resumed in the Farnley Stakes two weeks ago, which is a task, fresh in a blacktype race, and he was far from disgraced in defeat when fifth to Massimo. Think the claim for Azzopardi certainly helps. Fitter, up to the mile, think he’s hard to beat.
11 Strike Force (Bet Now: $12.00) is two weeks between runs for the Peter Bamford team since racing at this track/distance when tracking the speed throughout and looked to travel well throughout. Gave a really good kick and looked home, but was bloused late by Leading Girl. Does no work from the gate and has to be respected.
Race 6. (17:29) Vale Nino Buratovic (rs1mw) 1600m
Fitter and up to the mile are two big ticks for the Adam Durrant trained 4 Come Right Back (Bet Now: $3.50), so I’m going his way. Resumed over 1400m here just over two weeks ago and I loved the way he found the line late over an unsuitable trip when fourth to Count Tomoz Off. Good second up record, up in trip, upside…very likeable.
5 Zip Your Lips (Bet Now: $10.00) will likely lead this field up and give a sight. Son of Toorak Toff for the Adam Durrant team that led throughout to win over 1700m here last Wednesday under a lovely front running steer from Johnston-Porter. Loses nothing with Mitch Pateman steering now and he’s a good rider of front runners.
9 Arnie’s Boy (Bet Now: $7.00) is bursting to win a race this time in for Ashley Maley. Ran over this track/distance two weeks back and was put into a good spot around midfield before eventually getting into clear air and surging hard late, just missing out on the win when second to Playing Marika. Going super and is hard to beat.
Race 7. (18:08) Iron Jack (bm72+) 1200m
Looks pretty straight forward here with the Team Williams four year old 3 Long Beach (Bet Now: $2.45). Had eight weeks off prior to racing over 1000m here where he was well backed and suited by a fast speed, he finished right over the top for a very impressive win. Fitter and up to 1200m, he should take a power of beating here.
6 Eeyore Wayz (Bet Now: $4.80) has plenty of talent and I’m sure will give this favourite a decent run. Ran over 1000m here last Saturday when two weeks between runs and back from 1200m, but he produced a brilliant finale from off the speed and was too good. He’s a beauty and provided he doesn’t get too far back, he’s in the game.
Very interesting runner is 9 Living The Dream (Bet Now: $31.00), who makes his WA debut for the Lindsey Smith stable. Hasn’t raced since April 8 when down the track in what looked a handy race at Sandown. No public trials to get him ready, but can pull out a decent run fresh and his best is certainly up to running well here.
Race 8. (18:45) Black Heart Bart Stakes 1200m
If 5 Cup Night (Bet Now: $15.00) can take advantage of gate one, I think he’s clearly the one to beat. He does look a potential leading candidate for the Railway so keen to see how he resumes. Had one run in the Winter, which came in the Bolton Sprint when a closing fourth from the back behind Red Can Man. Loved the recent Lark Hill trial and think he’s ready to go.
Class will carry 1 Vital Silver (Bet Now: $3.80) a long way. The talented grey resumed three weeks ago in the Jolly Beggar where he had to lump 62kg and was as game as ever when a close up third to Money Matters. Very much suited at this weight scale and with the run under the belt, he’s got improvement to come and rates highly.
4 Media Baron (Bet Now: $51.00) will be one to keep an eye on, perhaps from a Railway perspective. Not sure he’ll measure up in a Railway, but he was one of the real finds of the Autumn, winning a string of races and establishing himself as a Stakes class animal. Resumes without a trial, but he’ll get back and be strong late.
Race 9. (19:20) Crown Perth (rs1mw) 1200m
Great opportunity for Madi Derrick and her 3kg to ride a nice horse and 8 Expressionist (Bet Now: $4.80) is indeed. He hasn’t been sighted since July 29 when winning impressively here over 1400m, with Pike riding a confident race and he drew clear late. No trials to get ready, but the claim is a big tick and draws out, so gets clear air to launch at them.
Back to 1200m is interesting for 11 Devoted Star (Bet Now: $6.50) but she’s got the ability to win this for sure. Six weeks between runs since racing over the 1300m here where she was back last from the wide but Parnham weaved his way through and almost got the win when a close up third. Can sit closer in the run this time around hopefully and is a key threat.
6 Wanna Be Good (Bet Now: $21.00) isn’t a reliable galloper when it comes to greeting the judge first. That is due to his awful racing pattern, but he does bring strong form into this, having resumed two weeks ago and closing off nicely from the back when fifth to Long Beach, who would be close to odds on here. That form reads well for this.
