The Parks track at Morphettville is where Adelaide racing takes place this Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out four metres for the entire circuit.
Race 1. (12:26) Alan Sheppard Construction Handicap 1000m
6 Spiritosa (Bet Now: $3.00) looks the way to go. Hayes/Dabernig trains this filly, who is on debut. Officially trialled back in September and went very good behind stablemate Nasaayim. Spelled and has had looked good at the Flemington jump outs. Should go close despite the tricky gate but Cory Parish on a big tick.
5 Schilldora (Bet Now: $4.60) looks a nice filly for the Richard Jolly team. She debuted at Balaklava and ran a well beaten but encouraging second to a pretty good one I think in Be My Star, who ran okay in a Stakes race last Saturday. I reckon that form should hold up nicely here. Hard run 1000m is the only query I have.
2 Tomahawk Lad (Bet Now: $16.00) is a Reward For Effort youngster on debut for the John Hyam team. This bloke has had no trials leading up to this debut run, and stable generally don’t get them ready, but this isn’t a strong race and Raquel Clark is riding in super form. Tough race, but I think he can run well.
Race 2. (13:05) Thomas Foods Kitchen Handicap (90) 1250m
If 6 Exalted Adam (Bet Now: $2.80) has recovered from the Goodwood last Saturday, he just wins this. If you look at the race from last weekend, his effort was enormous. Last at the turn and did a great job to get as close as he did. This is a mile back in depth, Kah on…gee he looks the one to beat against this lot.
2 Go The Journey (Bet Now: $4.10) is a ripper for the Richard Jolly camp who resumed over 1200m on the course proper a fortnight back and I reckon he should be a forgive run for that run behind Camdus because he just worked too hard to find the lead, which isn’t his go at all. Better suited here and with a clean jump, I reckon he can bounce back hard.
4 So You Too (Bet Now: $9.50) could be the big improver here. Resumed over the 1050m a few weeks ago and never looked likely behind Desert Lashes, getting a mile back in the run and not coming on. Up to 1250m looks ideal for this son of So You Think, he likes racing here and has a very good second up record.
Race 3. (13:46) The Seppeltsfield Handicap (70) 1250m
10 Beerzatbernz (Bet Now: $7.00) on top in a race that I don’t have much confidence in. He resumed over the 1050m a fortnight back and was a bit disappointing I thought behind I Am Someone. Up to 1250m is ideal and this is a drop in depth. Hard to be confident but should take some beating here.
2 Comfortable (Bet Now: $3.20) is on the seven day back up after racing on the course proper last Saturday where he was an alarming drifter in betting and ran accordingly behind Bord De Gain. This looks a serious drop in grade and he maps well, plus has the claim for Cartwright. Ticks plenty of boxes for mine.
5 French Rock (Bet Now: $3.80) is a Francis/Kent trained galloper who comes here off the back of a last start narrow second at the midweeks at Balaklava where he loomed large to win but just couldn’t get past Diamond Tycoon. Should get a good run off the pace and is a proven city performer. Definite threat.
Race 4. (14:26) Australian Made Advantage Handicap (64) 1550m
6 Ancient Echoes (Bet Now: $2.40) looks the obvious. Darren Weir trains this three year old, who is three weeks between runs since racing over the 1400m at Flemington where he did work near the speed and just tired late behind Barbecue. This looks a much more winnable assignment with the drop in depth.
4 Table Of Wisdom (Bet Now: $8.00) is the one with timing and upside. He was on speed last time out at Balaklava and he absolutely spanked them under Kayla Crowther, dominating proceedings. Up to 1550m is ideal and if he can overcome the tricky gate, he’s a definite threat given the upside and form around him.
10 Star Patriot (Bet Now: $9.50) is another that drops big time in depth. She comes through the Queen Of The South where she was outclassed but far from disgraced behind French Emotion. He should get a lovely run from off the speed here and is a knockout chance at odds. Just doesn’t want to give away a start.
Race 5. (15:05) Lexus Of Adelaide Handicap (75) 1000m
5 Showpero (Bet Now: $2.55) looks a great bet here. Francis/Kent train this mare, who’s first up after doing some really nice things when last in work, facing much tougher fields than this. Liked her trial behind Falcool and I’d suggest she’s just about ready to go for her resumption. Happy to be in her corner here.
2 Magnus Knight (Bet Now: $5.75) is a handy son of Magnus that resumes for the Ryan Balfour team. His Spring/Summer prep was mixed but for the most part he ran quite well. No trials leading in, but he certainly has the quality to go close and beat these if he’s anywhere near right. Like Elzette, the market will tell you.
3 Elzette (Bet Now: $11.00) is a quality mare from Mount Gambier who is in ripping form at the moment, winning a couple of races on the bounce at the SA Provincials. Trialled nicely enough at Penola last week and this isn’t a strong race so I think she can run well and measure up. Market will probably be your best guide.
Race 6. (15:42) McMahon Services Handicap (82) 1950m
I think there is value in the shape of 1 Survived (Bet Now: $8.50). He drops miles in depth after running at Caulfield a fortnight back where he didn’t let down at all on the sloppy track behind Our Peaky Blinders. Back to 1950m on firmer footing, back in grade and I think Yendall can hold up and dominate things from the front.
8 Gracena (Bet Now: $3.20) is racing really well at the moment for the Stokes yard. Looked all over a winner last time out but just had no answers for the finale produced by Bertwhistle. 1950m is the little query but she’s hard fit and in ripping form so hard to ignore her. A hard 1950m is the only query I have with her.
6 Flow Meter (Bet Now: $18.00) is an absolute beauty for the John Hickmott stable. He rarely runs a bad race, always tries hard and generally picks up prizemoney every start. Solid effort last time in the Alice Springs Cup but 2000m at that level probably saw him out. Much better suited here and he should run well once again.
Race 7. (16:21) Resource Co Handicap 1300m
4 Lady Of Crebilly (Bet Now: $3.20) on top. Phillip Stokes trains this filly, who has trialled up well prior to resuming over 1050m on the course proper two weeks ago where she got a mile back off the speed but wound up quite well between runners to run second to I Am Someone. Not the most reliable galloper going around but does look very well suited up to 1300m
All you can do is win and that is what 6 Diamond Tycoon (Bet Now: $3.40) has done in two career outings, both of which have come at Balaklava. Maiden win was dominant but next start she had to dig in and she did when strongly challenged. Looks a nice type and I’d be surprised if she didn’t measure up.
12 True Myth (Bet Now: $8.00) is the interesting runner. Mick Price trains this three year old, who arrives here off the back of a maiden win at Bairnsdale. It was nothing flash time wise, but he did it rather well and when asked for the big effort, he responded and drew clear. Gets map favours and is in the right stable.
Race 8. (17:00) Hughes Limousines Handicap (75) 1400m
14 Devilishly (Bet Now: $5.00) for me in the get out. This mare doesn’t have the greatest of winning strike rates for the Hayes/Dabernig team but she tries hard and is usually never far away. Ran over 1400m last time out and was close up when fourth to Manuel, beaten a couple of lengths. She’ll be strong late and each way, I’ll have something on.
9 Kirona (Bet Now: $6.50) is a Ryan Balfour trained mare who should love the drop in depth. She ran in the R A Lee last Saturday where she did work in the run and was outclassed pretty much behind Land Of Plenty. This looks her right level to get her confidence back up, gets the claim for Aitken and she should be strong at the end of 1400m.
1 Lord Topper (Bet Now: $9.50) is an absolute iron horse for the Travis Doudle team. He ran at Caulfield last time out where he was on speed most of the way and was beaten early on in the straight, but was sticking on gamely in defeat behind Jaws Of Steel. Finds a very winnable race here if he brings his best.
