26/3/2022 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Mornington, Mornington Cup day

Nine races have been set down for Mornington on Saturday where it is Mornington Cup Day. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

4 Quintello (Bet Now: $2.35) can resume a winner here for the Maher/Eustace camp. She resumes, having not raced since October 8 when placing in a Country Series Heat at Cranbourne behind Brazen Song, who is a handy horse, so the form reads okay. Her two jumpouts leading in have been strong and back to Mares grade, she appeals.

3 Cirrina (Bet Now: $2.90) will put herself on speed and look to give herself every chance. Resumed at The Valley when on speed and she looked to be travelling. Tried her guts out but couldn’t quite finish it off when second to Merlin’s Charm. Is a winner at the track and on speed will be the spot to be today I feel.

5 Teramia (Bet Now: $15.00) has home track advantage so that should hold her in good stead. Market wanted her when she resumed at Kilmore but I thought she was a touch on the plain side given it was a midweek Class 2. Form around her from last prep reads very well and she can produce an electric finale.

1 Yaki Ishi (Bet Now: $1.80) will put himself on speed and look to give his all. He was good from the back on debut at Pakenham. He then went to the VRC Sires when leading and giving a good kick but couldn’t quite finish it off when third to Let’srollthedice. I think if they don’t go too aggressive, he can take this out.

6 Do It La (Bet Now: $2.35) is a Peter Moody trained filly that knuckled down strongly late to win on debut at Ballarat before going to the Sires at Flemington where she was far from disgraced in defeat after sitting on speed. Gets a suck run from the gate and has to be respected.

8 New York Rose (Bet Now: $12.00) gets Winkers on first time and that should sharpen her up. Debuted over 1200m at Cranbourne in what looked an okay maiden. She was back in the run and couldn’t get involved when down the track. Couldn’t back her to win, but an improved showing is on the cards.

8 Little Stevie (Bet Now: $13.00) is flying this time in. Honest mare that narrowly missed the win two back at The Valley but she made amends at the midweeks at Sandown. She was absolutely trucking in the run and one Stockdale pushed the button, away she went and she was dominant. She can measure up here for sure.

2 Midwest (Bet Now: $2.40) is dead set flying for Team Freedman. 5/5 this time in, helped by both peach on speed steers and great placement by the camp. No place to hide now at Saturday level in what looks a decent 78 and drawn wide, but he has to be given respect.

3 Destination (Bet Now: $11.00) is a son of Exceed And Excel for James Cummings that resumes. He hasn’t raced since Stakes Day at Flemington during Cup Week when at the end of his prep and looking for the paddock when down the track behind It’sourtime. Has trialled well in Sydney and can sprint well fresh. Market will be a good guide as to whether he’s ready or not.

11 Jump The Broom (Bet Now: $2.40) is an unbeaten mare for Team Hawkes that resumes. This girl hasn’t raced since November 26 when leading throughout under the lights at Canterbury, where she was helped by the bias, but still was strong in winning. Couple of jumpouts to get ready and maps to get an ideal run.

7 Evening Glory (Bet Now: $5.50) is knocking on the door to win. Team Freedman trained gelding that ran over this trip at The Valley last time out and closed off strongly from off the speed when a narrow second to Maritana. Hard fit and is ready to win.

8 I Am Vinnie (Bet Now: $34.00) has home track advantage, so that gives him a shout. He hasn’t raced since January 22 at Randwick when back in the run and closing off pretty well late in the piece behind Bring The Ransom. Not a noted fresh performer, but he is a proven Saturday class horse.

Leaning towards 6 Harmysian (Bet Now: $19.00). Clayton Douglas trains this former French galloper, who has been okay since racing in Australia. Resumed over 1800m at Sandown where he was looming to win but being first up, condition just gave way. Fitter, home track advantage and gate one, he only runs well IMO.

7 Upswing (Bet Now: $8.50) is racing in super form this time in for Patrick Payne. Last couple of runs have come over 1800m at the midweeks at Sandown, the latest being a strong win last Wednesday under a peach from Mick Dee. He should eat up the 2000m and the stable is in really good form.

11 Takumi (Bet Now: $19.00) is one I could entertain for wider multiples. He was a few weeks between runs when racing over 1800m at Sandown. He got a fair way back in the run and just couldn’t get involved from where he was but was solid late. He draws to settle much closer in the run and I feel can be a knockout hope.

To me, this is all about 2 Pondus (Bet Now: $2.40). If he runs up to what he did last Saturday, he just wins. It was an arrogant win at Flemington and finally broke the duck on Australian soil. I’ve always rated him a Cups horse. Is this the year where he can put it together and secure a Caulfield Cup berth with a win here? I am saying yes.

4 Crystal Pegasus (Bet Now: $2.90) is a beauty for Chris Waller. He is going through his grades nicely, the latest win coming three weeks ago in the Roy Higgins when bolting up at Flemington under Jamie Kah. Generally, this race is saved for a progressive animal, and he is indeed that.

6 Dadoozdart (Bet Now: $11.00) is bursting to win a race for Team Hawkes. Just lost sight of the bunny I thought in the Canberra Cup but really liked the way he finished his race off behind dominant all the way winner Sacramento. He’s knocking on the door to win one and gets conditions to suit.

2 Signore Fox (Bet Now: $5.00) has a bit of class/quality about him when right and he loves a firm deck so he gets conditions to suit. Resumes for Team Snowden, with his last run coming in the George Moore behind Zoustyle. Run prior in The Hunter was a beauty so the form reads well and he has trialled up nicely in readiness for his return.

Market will be interesting with 6 La Mexicana (Bet Now: $5.00) because 1200m looks to be her sweet spot. Hasn’t raced since Cup Day over 1400m at Flemington where she just found seven furlongs a bridge too far behind Rich Hips. 1200m is her go in life and with two jumpouts, she has to be given a definite chance despite the gate.

3 Sansom (Bet Now: $15.00) is a talented animal for Phillip Stokes that should be better for the first up run, which came in the Matrice last Monday at Morphettville. He tried hard from on speed but condition just blew out late behind Ironclad. Fitter, he’ll land near the front here and give his all.

5 Sharp Response (Bet Now: $3.60) can bounce back. He comes through the Australian Guineas and I thought he was far from disgraced in defeat behind Hitotsu after getting a mile back in the run. This looks more his level and if he can sit closer in the run, he’ll be dangerous I suspect.

8 British Columbia (Bet Now: $5.50) jumps to Stakes grade straight out of maiden company but he is a horse with talent and has home track advantage. He was there to be run down at Sandown last time but he found and on the line was safely holding his rivals. I think he can measure up.

7 Commander Harry (Bet Now: $7.50) should love the rise to the mile. Resumed over 1400m at Flemington and I didn’t think he had the best of luck in the straight behind Fortunate Kiss in what was a tidy return. Might want 2000m+, but he’ll be strong at the end.

11 Threeandfourpence (Bet Now: $9.00) is bursting to win a race. He has placed his past couple over the mile, two back finishing second at Caulfield before a strong third at Flemington behind the very much in form Gentleman Roy. He’s knocking on the door and I think he gets a great chance.

10 Savannah Cloud (Bet Now: $2.60) has been up a little while but is racing in super form for Phillip Stokes. Three weeks between runs since sitting on speed at Flemington and tried hard when third to Yonce. Runner up was Gentleman Roy and both horses won last Saturday, so the form reads very well.

5 Midships (Bet Now: $81.00) is in with a sneaky chance. On paper, down the track in the Corowa Cup…how can that form stand up? But, he was back near last in the run and it’s a track where those on speed are suited, so be forgiving. If he’s within range here, he can take this out.
