26/12/2019 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Morphettville, Alcopop Series Final day

Boxing Day racing in SA heads to Morphettville where eight races have been set down. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out nine metres from the 1200m-Winning Post; Out eight metres for the remainder.

In the corner of 9 Magic Reward (Bet Now: $2.90) for the Peter Hardacre team. This mare resumed on Bordertown Cup Day over 1100m when back in the run and spotted them a decent start but finished off with purpose, just missing out on the win when a narrow second to Italian Witness. That reads very well for this and up to 1200m is a big tick.

5 Tycoon Barney (Bet Now: $7.50) has clearly had his issues given he is five years of age yet only made his debut a few weeks ago at Murray Bridge and I thought it was a definite pass mark, closing off pretty well late in the race behind Magic Dee, a proven city performer, so that reads well and stable should always be respected when coming to town.

7 Blinkin Ready Now (Bet Now: $61.00) is a very interesting runner. Former NSW galloper that makes her SA debut for the Sharyn Ratsch stable. Hasn’t raced since November 5 at Coffs Harbour when down the track. Didn’t do a great deal in a recent trial, but she brings different form here and Eastern state form generally holds up in SA.

9 La Croft (Bet Now: $2.90) on top. Daughter of Foxwedge having start one for Team McEvoy. Looked pretty good in a Parks track a couple of weeks ago when a close up third, but looked to go about her business pretty well. Stable with their first starters, especially in SA, are hard to beat and she does find a very winnable maiden for her debut.

1 Fortune Follows (Bet Now: $5.50) is an interesting runner. Son of Akeed Mofeed for the Will Clarken yard that is on debut. He’s had one public trial in readiness for start one, which came at Strathalbyn back on November 28 and I didn’t mind the way he moved in that particular trial. Not the strongest race overall here, so he could easily run a positive race.

2 Oolong Gaze (Bet Now: $14.00) is just under a month between runs for the Ken Sweeney stable since racing over this track/distance when on speed, stalking the leader, before taking the front and giving a decent kick but was bloused late by It’s A Shame. He does tend to race well with fresh legs and he’s got the right racing pattern to be very competitive.

Tricky race but taking a chance on 3 Cruizie Captain (Bet Now: $5.00) for Brian Lawlor, who debuted over 1000m at Terang and while he didn’t beat much, it was the manner in which he won that impressed me, sitting on speed before booting clear early on in the straight and holding a safe margin to the peg, running good time in the process. Think he measures up.

The best version of 2 Burning The Clock (Bet Now: $1.80) is clearly good enough to beat these. He hasn’t raced since Ararat Cup Day back on November 10 when given an ordinary steer by Linda Meech, sitting wide throughout, and he was a beaten horse 400m out when down the track behind The Last Napoleon, who has ticked that form off via a Moonee Valley win. Hard to beat at his best.

6 Charmist (Bet Now: $13.00) is a handy mare who resumes for the John Macmillan camp. This mare hasn’t raced since June 1 on the Parks track when down the track behind Yulong Patrol, finishing tailed off last. Has a really good fresh record and loved the way she went in a recent Strathalbyn trial, so I’ll take a punt on her.

7 Thompson’s Reward (Bet Now: $3.90) is a David Jolly trained son of Reward For Effort who comes through the Taken Off race from three weeks ago on the Parks track and for the most part, I thought he was disappointing. Didn’t really do that much work in the run and was there to be a winning threat, but didn’t find much in the straight under pressure. Can win, but is hard to trust.

3 Brimarvi Vehero (Bet Now: $3.20) is flying for Sam Burford but can’t quite crack it for a win. He comes through the White Kaps race from several weeks back when getting a good run just off the pace and loomed large to beat White Kaps, but that horse was well backed and did have a slight weight pull. He’s bursting to win a race and I think he gets a great chance here.

8 Zarace (Bet Now: $10.00) is a tough, tough customer for Ken Sweeney who seems to love his racing. Is just under two weeks between runs since racing at Morphettville when doing work on speed and feeling the pinch late behind impressive winner Atomic Lokade in a race which was set up for swoopers. If he finds the front and is allowed to roll, he’ll take catching.

The Emma Hubbard stable is flying and a flagbearer for that purple patch is 4 Igitur (Bet Now: $3.30), a stayer who has won his past two, each coming at 1600m. The latest of the two wins came at Murray Bridge and he was just far too good for them after sitting on speed. Form out of that race has been very good and I think he’ll only run well here.

I don’t think 1 See The Master (Bet Now: $6.50) is that far off a win. Comes through the Bordertown Cup where I thought Hurdle gave him a peach from gate one and loomed large to win but couldn’t quite see it through when a narrow second to Pass The Glass. Don’t mind him back to 1800m and the depth here, overall, isn’t as strong.

A rise in trip should suit the Macdonald/Gluyas trained mare 6 Liberty Lover (Bet Now: $21.00), who has finished down the track at her past couple of 1600m, a trip which is short of her ideal. The last run came at Murray Bridge behind Igitur and battled away okay but was never really a winning threat. Has upside, out to a more ideal distance, she can improve.

Looks a lovely race for the Team McEvoy mare 7 Belzella (Bet Now: $2.10). Gave them a spanking to win two back over 1200m at Balaklava, which ensured she was a short priced elect over 1400m on the Parks track last time and was very disappointing late when fourth to Yankee Eyes. Fresh legs back to 1200m looks a good set up for her, so giving her another chance.

5 Exalted Lauretta (Bet Now: $9.50) has been an absolute beauty right throughout her career for Grant Young and I think she can be dangerous here, especially if she finds the lead and gets a cheap furlong. Attempted to lead all the way over 1400m at Murray Bridge and gave a pretty good kick but had to settle for a tiring fourth to Ice Ghost. Naseeb well and truly ticked that form off next start and back to 1200m, Exalted Lauretta is a key chance.

3 Bolt I Am (Bet Now: $13.00) is a David Jolly trained six year old who is just under three weeks between runs since racing over 1250m on the Parks track where he ran a pretty decent race I thought from off the pace when fourth to impressive winner Enough Swagger, who won again on Saturday to tick that form off. Back on the main track, he’s a leading chance.

He’s got a few loose screws upstairs, but ability wise, 4 Naseeb (Bet Now: $4.80) has these comfortably covered IMO and if he runs up to the last start win at this track/distance, he’ll be too good again despite the rise in depth. He did a bit wrong in the win but it was just impressive the way he let down and had them comfortably beat. Confident he goes on with it.

1 Dexter You Devil (Bet Now: $4.80) is becoming such a reliable horse and I think he’s the safe option here. Shayne Cahill has this bloke absolutely flying. Ran at this track/distance a few weeks ago when sitting back off a moderate speed before making a run from the back by himself and despite that, he finished best and was impressive. See no reason to see why he can’t, other than the weight.

11 She’s Never Late (Bet Now: $7.50) is a daughter of Time Thief for the David Jolly camp who has been quite good in two runs back from a break. Just found Enough Swagger too good fresh before going to the 1400m a few weeks ago and just got too far back in the run behind Yankee Eyes. Like her out to a trip and she’s a leading chance.

11 Sunstone (Bet Now: $1.70) on top for me. The McEvoy stable trains this filly, who hasn’t raced since November 30 at this track/distance when a grinding third to the well backed Holy Dancer, who got a soft time of it on speed and kicked on too strongly to win. Takes on the older horses here, but it’s a weak race and she’s in the right yard to bounce back into the winners list.

6 Adozenroses (Bet Now: $10.00) has been excellent in two runs back from a spell for David Jolly, both over 1350m at Strathalbyn. Landed some big bets first up with a win before bumping into a handy one in Cosmic Award next time out but was far from disgraced. Like her up to the mile and overall, this isn’t the strongest city race going around.

Interesting there has been specking for 8 Pearl Bandit (Bet Now: $7.00). Was teasing to win before racing at Strathalbyn last time and gee he was disappointing. Had the good run in transit and was there to threaten, but didn’t find much when asked. Senior rider takes over and I think back to a mile will suit this four year old. One more chance.

NEXT BEST: Race Six Number 7 Belzella

LONG SHOT: Race Four Number 7 Thompson’s Reward
