Night racing continues at Moonee Valley this Friday. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out six metres for the entire circuit.
Race 1. (18:15) Living Legends Hcp 2040m
Like 2 Burning Power (Bet Now: $2.40) here. Was keen on her when she raced here two weeks ago and under a lovely ride from Mick Dee, she was much too good for them and was strong to the line over the mile, suggesting 2040m here is no issue. Small field, so she’ll be within range throughout and has more upside than most.
3 The Amazonian (Bet Now: $4.80) is a Price/Kent trained filly that comes here off the back of a slogging win on Cranbourne Cup Day over 2000m. It was survival of the fittest and she was the horse that lapped up the conditions best. If that hasn’t busted her, she’ll take beating here.
6 Bring The Stars (Bet Now: $12.00) is a one batter for the Griffiths/De Kock camp. Took a little while to break the maiden tag but it came last start over 2000m at Donald, finishing very strongly from off the speed to get the job done. That was against the older horses, so back to his own age, he can be dangerous.
Race 2. (18:45) Mooneevalleypark.com.au Mdn 1500m
7 Unforgiven (Bet Now: $5.00) on top. Team Freedman gelding that resumed over 1300m at Bendigo where Mott rode him positively, sitting on speed. He gave a strong kick but being first up, his condition just gave way late. Like him up in trip and from gate one, he’ll get a gun sit and be hard to hold out.
11 Riverina Cyclone (Bet Now: $2.80) is bursting to break the maiden tag. Matt Laurie trained filly that has placed in all three runs this time in, the latest coming at Pakenham when a game second to General Firepower. Gets Winkers on, with that headgear hopefully to sharpen her up and keep her focused.
10 Lady Vuitton (Bet Now: $23.00) can be an improver here at odds. Good on debut at Moe before going to Kyneton where she didn’t fire and was quite plain I thought after that encouraging debut. Up to the mile here in a harder race, I doubt she wins, but she could sneak a first four spot.
Race 3. (19:15) Xmas Parties @ The Valley-bm64 2500m
If this becomes a slog, which these lowly 2500m races generally, then I want to be on a proven stayer, and 3 Fabalot (Bet Now: $9.00) is indeed that. He comes to town in winning form after making a mess of them over 2350m at the Bool last time, albeit in a thin 58 Highweight, but he spanked them, his confidence is up, gets Lane and the price is more than acceptable.
Andrea Leek has 10 Saving (Bet Now: $8.50) absolutely flying at the moment. Bolted up three back at Traralgon. Then went to Moe when on speed and fighting hard when second. Then attempted to lead throughout last Wednesday at Sandown and was only run down the final few strides by Mr Cancun. That form does read well for this.
2 Mystery Island (Bet Now: $11.00) has been pretty disappointing this time in compared to last prep but his best is definitely good enough to give this a shake. Ran over 2040m here two weeks back and was very plain after doing work to find the front. Perhaps with a more conservative steer, he’ll be more effective.
Race 4. (19:45) Front Runner Membership (bm64) 1600m
Fitter and up to the mile, looks a good recipe for 3 Laundy (Bet Now: $3.30). This gelding resumed over 1400m at Pakenham and closed off hard from off the speed, just missing out on the win when second to Impressive Lass. Placed in both runs at the Valley and with the claim, he does get in quite well.
2 Vitruvius (Bet Now: $2.40) back to the mile I do like. Stepped up to 2000m at Flemington on Stakes Day and loomed to win from off the speed, but couldn’t quite finish it off behind Alcyone. I think back to 1600m is a big tick for him and with luck from the gate, he’ll take beating.
7 Chase On The Case (Bet Now: $21.00) hasn’t been too bad in two runs back from a break. Close up behind Ice Ice Baby fresh at Kilmore. Then went to Sandown and was far from disgraced in defeat behind a proven city performer, Denero. In well after the claim, he’s one for multiples, especially on a dry deck.
Race 5. (20:15) Drummond Golf (bm64) 1000m
Maiden straight to 64 isn’t easy, especially in town, but 12 Aquapishe (Bet Now: $3.00) looks a promising animal for Lloyd Kennewell. Market smashed him fresh at Pakenham and despite a few nervous moments, once he clicked into gear, he made a mess of them and was miles too good. Lone run last prep was the debut at this track/distance when placing. Hard to beat with Olly steering.
9 Rights Of Man (Bet Now: $3.30) is the market watch. Team Freedman four year old that resumes, having not raced since the Creswick when just under two lengths off Free To Move in what was a proper blanket finish. Blinkers on first time for the return tells me there is intent.
2 Rock Tycoon (Bet Now: $31.00) rarely runs a howler at the Valley so while I doubt he wins, he is one I can entertain for wider multiples. Ran in a 955m here two weeks ago and was far from disgraced in defeat behind Lady Solly. If he gets luck from the gate, he can sneak a first four spot.
Race 6. (20:45) Ladbrokes 55sec Challenge-bm70 955m
10 Gaze Grise (Bet Now: $5.50) is racing well for David Jolly and should prove hard to beat here. Ran over 1000m last time out on the Parks track at Morphettville. Had a good sit off the fast speed and loomed to win, but she had 60kg to carry and that just weighted her down late I think when a narrow second to Larkham. She can win this for sure if she gets a similar set up.
5 Award Winner (Bet Now: $3.50) is a daughter of Exceed And Excel for the Freedman camp that resumes. This girl ended last prep on a high, winning two on the bounce, the second win coming over 1100m at Caulfield. Liked her recent jumpout and looks ready to go to my eye.
6 Off To War (Bet Now: $11.00) is a very speed mare for the Neil Osborne camp at Canberra and she did show good fight recently in an earlier Heat of this Series. Last start was over 900m at Scone when on speed and kicked hard, just missing out on the win when second to Omar. She’ll be near the front and giving cheek.
Race 7. (21:15) Tote Bar & Dining (bm70) 2040m
6 Johandough (Bet Now: $7.00) seems to only run for one rider, C Williams, and for the first time in a while, he is on the mare, so she’s on top. Irregular Heart Rhythm saw her finish tailed off behind Only Words here on Manikato Night. Then went to Flemington where she was ridden cold and worked home well behind Alcyone. Williams on, I think she’ll lead and take running down.
1 Confrontational (Bet Now: $5.50) is flying for the Warren/Krongold camp. I was with him last start over the mile here and 600m out, it looked no betting. He was bolting and it was just a matter of pushing the button. But as soon as the button was pushed, his wheels were spinning on the wet ground. Firmer footing here and up in trip, he can bounce back.
4 Florida Dream (Bet Now: $31.00) is racing well without winning. Luke Oliver trained gelding that comes through the Alcyone race at Flemington an was good late without threatening. Drops a fair bit in grade/depth here and with the claim, he does get in quite well. Stable is going awful, but this horse can change that.
Race 8. (21:45) Ladbroke It (bm64) 1200m
4 Orienzel (Bet Now: $6.00) is on the seven day back up for Nathan Hobson after racing here last Friday night. He had the sweet sit behind the speed and tried hard, but was clearly no match for an in form Dance To Dubai, settling for second. Soft run from the gate and I think has to be respected.
5 Expectant (Bet Now: $5.00) is knocking on the door to win for Shane Nicholls. Has placed his past two, the latest at Dunkeld when third to Yulong Knight in a race where the form out of it looks quite strong. Tricky little map for him but is honest and with the claim, should be around the mark.
9 Nantucket (Bet Now: $15.00), to me, seems a rock hard track horse, so touch wood for his fans, he should get that here. Resumed over 1100m at Bendigo where it was a shifty track and he just didn’t let down on it behind My Yankee Girl. If he gets the firm deck here, he’ll run a much improved race.
