Ten races will be run and won at Eagle Farm this Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out three metres for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (12:30) Tab Hcp 1000m
3 Press Start (Bet Now: $4.00) looks the winner despite a very tricky gate. Greg Hickman trains this filly, who debuted here three weeks ago where she was very green in the straight but once she balanced up, she was very strong at the end when third to Gotta Kiss, who went within a lip of winning again last Saturday, so the form reads well for this and you’d like to think she’ll improve from start one to start two.
1 Spirit One (Bet Now: $3.20) comes through the Gotta Kiss race from three weeks ago when showing really good early toe to lead the field and gave a reasonable kick but couldn’t quite finish it off and had to settle for second to the O’Dea filly. She’ll improve off that, she’s got the right racing pattern and will look the winner for a long way. Last 50-100m will be the test.
5 Jellishot (Bet Now: $7.50) is a Spirit Of Boom filly on debut for the Rob Heathcoate stable. This girl has had two trials in readiness for start one, winning the first trial impressively at Doomben before trialling at Deagon last Tuesday when placing behind Rothfire, who won last Saturday and beat Gotta Kiss, so the form does read well for this. Keen to see how he goes.
Race 2. (13:07) Suez Pro Skips (bm80) 2400m
6 Advance Warning (Bet Now: $3.10) should be winning again. He’s been very impressive in both career outings at 2000m+, both resulting in wins, the latest coming here two weeks ago where he spotted them an impossible start on the turn but balanced up and surged hard late to get the win. He’ll eat up 2400m and remains down in the weights. Only bad luck beats him I think.
9 Speaking Bad (Bet Now: $4.80) is racing well at the moment for Gary Duncan but he can’t quite crack it for a win. He was well backed over 2200m here two weeks ago when given a lovely ride by Steph Thornton near the speed. Took the front early on in the straight and kicked strongly but couldn’t see it out when fourth to Advance Warning. Off that, can’t see him turning the tables, but runs well regardless.
Have always had time for 7 Partnership (Bet Now: $9.00) and I think he can measure up here. Landed some good bets at odds when winning two back at Ballina before going to Murwillumbah when lumping 60kg and showing good ticker late to get the job done. Yet to really measure up in town previously, but the way he’s going, he’s earned another crack.
Race 3. (13:43) Driver Recruitment (bm70) 1815m
4 Amacitia (Bet Now: $6.00) is a progressive mare for Tony Gollan that was an impressive winner two back at Ipswich before racing at this track/distance where Bayliss looked to give her a nice run off speed and tried had but the stop/start tempo probably didn’t suit her behind Bering Sea. If she is to win, I’m hoping for a genuine tempo because I think she’ll be strong late if that eventuates.
3 Nicholas (Bet Now: $6.50) looks a little query at a strong 1800m, but he’s earned a crack at Saturday grade and finds a winnable race. Got into a lovely spot just off the speed from the gate last start at Doomben over the mile and finished best in a driving go to win narrowly. I think 1800m will be okay for him provided he gets an economical run, and this isn’t an overly strong race.
Want to give 6 Banteux (Bet Now: $9.50) another chance. Had his first run in Queensland last start at the Gold Coast when lumping 59kg and produced a rather weak finale when fourth to Starlighter, getting beat as an odds on pop. Gets good weight relief this time around and despite winning just the one from ten outings, he has showed enough to be competitive here.
Race 4. (14:18) Austrans Hcp 1815m
I’ll go each way with 6 Fighting Teo (Bet Now: $4.50). He’s hard to catch, but I thought his resumption behind Rhyme Nor Rhythm here two weeks ago was full of merit given he was fresh, over an unsuitable trip, yet did make up ground late in the piece and his late splits were some of the best of the race. He can sit handy from the good draw up in trip and Luke Tarrant rides the horse better than anyone.
A step up in trip should suit the Steve O’Dea trained 3 Sabkhat (Bet Now: $6.00). He ran over the mile here last Saturday where he looked to get an easy time of it in front and for mine, had his chance when fourth to Zofonic Dancer, but far from disgraced. Has reacted very positively on the seven day back up previously and looks ideally placed out to 1800m. Hard to beat.
1 Cellarman (Bet Now: $11.00) is an improver at odds. He resumed over 1400m here two weeks ago where he was off the pace and looked to travel well but he did parade like he would need the run and that’s how it panned out behind Rhyme Nor Rhythm. May need one or two more, but interesting he jumps straight to 1800m and did trial well prior to the resumption.
Race 5. (14:53) Superior Pak Hcp 1600m
Little bit of a question mark at the mile, but with upside and change up speed, I’ll go the way of 6 Cellarmaid (Bet Now: $3.10) for Kelly Schweida, who broke the maiden tag over 1350m last start at Doomben, finishing off strongly to get the job done narrowly but impressively. Can see her getting a sweet sit off the speed if Orman uses the inside gate, and she has a turn of foot compared to most here.
5 Couldn’t Refuse (Bet Now: $3.30) looks a talented animal for Desleigh Forster who comes here off the back of a maiden win over the mile at the Sunny Coast where Michael Cahill pinched some very cheap sectionals on speed and that was the difference between winning and losing as Epicurious tried but spotted too much start. She won last Wednesday and bolted up, so the form reads well and he has the right racing pattern.
2 Miss Cavallo (Bet Now: $8.00) is a filly I wouldn’t dismiss as a multiples contender. Poor ride didn’t help her cause at all two back at the Gold Coast before racing over 1400m here two weeks ago where she was back off the speed and never really likely but found the line well enough to run fifth to Gem Of Scotland. She’s racing as if the mile will suit her and is a must for exotics.
Race 6. (15:28) Nugrow Plate (c3) 1400m
10 Written With Ease (Bet Now: $3.90) is a Stuart Kendrick trained filly who takes on the older horses but she’s come back in good order. Beat all bar Gem Of Scotland fresh at Doomben before racing on her home track at the Sunny Coast where she was forced to do work in the run but class came to the fore and she was too good despite the narrow margin. Not the strongest race here and she has upside.
4 Soxagon (Bet Now: $2.70) has been quite good in two runs back from a spell for the Mark Currie team. Resumed with a distant second to the in form Desert Man at Doomben before going to the Sunny Coast where he landed outside the speed and looked to be bolting before being clicked up and putting them away in a couple of strides. Looks one of the hardest to beat here.
3 Toga Picta (Bet Now: $35.00) is a sneaky chance. He found some positive form in the small field at the Sunny Coast last time when leading and giving a really good kick under Bayliss, but just found one better in Beat The Beast, who has a touch more brilliance and was too good. Looks the leader here and on his old form in the Godolphin days, he would go close to beating this lot.
Race 7. (16:03) Bucher Municipal Hcp (c6) 1600m
Going for some value in the shape of 2 Bargannon (Bet Now: $7.50), who is second up here for David Vandyke. He resumed over 1200m here two weeks ago when back in the run and never really a threat but found the line well enough I thought Tambo’s Mate given he was over an unsuitable trip. Like him up in trip, fitter and overall, this race doesn’t have great depth.
11 Red Stina (Bet Now: $4.50) is a handy mare for Rex Lipp. Had her first run as a four year old over 1400m here two weeks ago and worked home strongly from off the pace to run third to Time To Play in an excellent return. Looks ideally suited up in trip and showed good promise over a middle distance trip as a three year old last season, so she should take some beating.
4 Brains (Bet Now: $21.00) is worth one more chance. Tony Gollan trains this bloke, who has been really disappointing this time in, the latest run seeing him finish down the track behind Enterprise Prince. Went back to the trials at the Sunny Coast on Tuesday and won the trial, getting his confidence up. Best is good enough to win. Just want to see what the market does.
Race 8. (16:47) Suez Recycling & Recovery (c6) 1200m
6 Tambo’s Mate (Bet Now: $2.25) has been excellent in two runs back from a break. Ordinary steer beat him first up behind Capital Connection at Doomben before racing over this track/distance two weeks ago when sitting closer in the run before being presented clear air and I loved the way he knuckled down to chase down an in form Deep Image and was too good. Third up, he’ll be hard fit now.
5 Langhro (Bet Now: $3.10) will look the winner for the most part. Steve O’Dea has him going super. Won his first two runs for the prep this time in before racing over 1400m here a few weeks ago when leading at a good clip and giving a kick, but just couldn’t quite finish it off when fourth to Enterprise Prince. Not sure what upside is left, but he’ll lead and give a bold sight.
8 Lifesaver (Bet Now: $13.00) is a little query at 1200m, but Matty Dunn has him going well. He is four weeks between runs since racing over 1110m at Doomben when off the speed and tried hard, but he seemed to have his chance when fourth to Capital Connection. Off that, I reckon he’ll struggle at 1200m, but gets a soft run in transit I think and a dry deck is a big tick.
Race 9. (17:32) Tomra Hcp 1000m
Going to go each way with 10 Sharpe Hussler (Bet Now: $35.00). Former Cameron Crockett runner that had his first run for Darryl Ward over 1000m at the Sunny Coast where he sat last in the small field but looked to travel well. Loomed to win but first run in several weeks, and given the track was soft, he couldn’t finish it off. He’s very good when he gets dry ground and sits off a fast speed, which is what he gets here.
5 Life On The Wire (Bet Now: $4.20) is a really good mare that was formerly with Scott Brunton but is now under the care of Rob Heathcoate. This mare has a really good overall, with the majority of her career being in Tassie with a couple of good efforts in Melbourne. Trialled like an absolute bomb a couple of weeks back at Doomben and appears forward enough to run well fresh.
7 Sword Of Justice (Bet Now: $21.00) is starting to become a bit of a money muncher but his best is clearly good enough to beat these. Led at Doomben several weeks back and looked to have his chance when tiring late behind El Campeador. Has been hard in the market his past two and disappointed so if you want to back him, I think you’d want near double figures.
Race 10. (18:12) Melb Cup @ Eagle Farm (70) 1200m
Can 1 Macewen (Bet Now: $2.60) continue his winning ways? Been on his back in each run this prep, jumped off last time and what happened? He absolutely bolted in under a lovely steer from Nothdurft, who was near the speed and got clear air early, pouncing on the leaders and producing what he’s promised all prep. If he can continue on from that, he’ll take some beating.
10 Frangipani (Bet Now: $4.80) Moon deserves another chance in town. This mare just missed out on the win two back at Doomben when second to Veranes before going to Ipswich last Wednesday where I’m not sure the tight track was to her liking when third to Hollaback Girl after settling just off the speed, a very slow speed. Bigger track and up to 1200m, she can win.
One for multiples to include is the Les Ross trained 12 Whodunnit (Bet Now: $19.00). She resumed over 1200m at the Sunny Coast where she was off the speed and didn’t really fire a shot but kept to the task and was sound in defeat when fourth to Buffy. Reckon slightly up in trip would suit her, so remaining at 1200m is the unknown but if they go at a good clip in front, she’ll be strong late.
