Race 1. (13:00) Fierce Impact 1St Foals (Bm70) 1400m
5 Cap De Joie (Bet Now: $3.20) ihas a tricky draw to overcome but she does have the most upside/progression of this lot. 2/2 to start her Australian life, both at Bendigo. Won the maiden over 1300m before a dominant win over the mile. Kept on ice and back to 1400m, potentially with an Oaks maybe on the cards? She’s the one they have to beat.
4 Savonia (Bet Now: $9.50) has returned in very good order for Team Corstens, being 2/2 this time in. Dominant all the way win fresh at Sale before going to Sandown last Wednesday where she was tucked in behind the speed and kept finding late to win nicely again. Racing like 1400m will suit and finds another winnable race.
13 Picarones (Bet Now: $7.50) hasn’t been too bad in two runs bad from a spell. Resumed on the Lakeside course when third to Cuban Link before racing over 1300m here and was very good late when a close up third to Savonia. Hard fit now, has Kah steering and gets the Blinkers back on.
Race 2. (13:30) Ive > (Bm78) 1400m
12 Chartres (Bet Now: $6.50) is flying for Matt Laurie and I think he’ll take a power of beating back to 78 grade. Ran at Listed level over 1400m at Flemington and was very good late in the piece behind Scallopini in a race shape that didn’t suit him. If he can settle closer in the run, he’ll take beating with the A1 form.
15 Sandy Prince (Bet Now: $5.00) has found winning form…can he hold it now? Lovely ride from Olly saw him win over 1300m at the midweeks here last time, finishing best in a driving go. Proven at 1400m and now he’s back on track, he commands respect against this lot.
9 Night Passage (Bet Now: $31.00) is a Team McEvoy trained mare that is capable with her best. Resumed with a needing the run prep opener at Flemington before going to the Ballarat Synthetic when wide no cover and tiring late behind My Boy Birmingham. Hard fit now, her best is good enough to be dangerous.
Race 3. (14:05) Senet Gambling Law Expert-Bm78 1800m
18 Aesop (Bet Now: $5.00) is hard to beat. Resumed over 1800m at Sandown where he got back off the speed and was flat footed when the sprint went on and was very good late when second to Lucky Decision, a handy horse. That was a very good return and fitter, it all points to him.
12 Groovy Kinda (Bet Now: $4.20) Love has a touch of class on her side and that will carry her a long way. She is second up here after resuming over 1400m at Caulfield when back in a sit/sprint and wasn’t suited but picked up and was good late behind Lady Of Honour, who ran well in the Let’s Elope. Natural improvement, up in trip, she appeals.
8 Yukon (Bet Now: $11.00) looks suited up to 1800m. All three runs this time in have come at around the 1400m/1500m race, the latest being just over two weeks back at Rosehill when far from disgraced behind Waterford, who would be odds on against this. Proven at Sandown, he appeals.
Race 4. (14:40) Stow Storage Solutions Hcp 1400m
4 Elliptical (Bet Now: $2.35) is hard to beat. He resumed in the Exford at Flemington where he had the suck run in behind and seemingly had his chance but battled on really well when fourth to Berkeley Square. Interesting he stays at 1400m, and drawn wide, but is talented and should be strong late.
9 Angry Skies (Bet Now: $6.50) rises sharply in grade/depth but he looks a promising colt for Team Hayes. Debuted over 1200m at Swan Hill where he got better as the race went on, drawing right away late to spank them in good style. I think the rise to 1400m is ideal and with luck from the gate, he’ll take beating.
2 Counttheheadlights (Bet Now: $13.00) is a quality colt for the Maher/Eustace camp that resumes. He hasn’t raced since the Champagne during the Sydney Autumn when struggling to pick his feet up on the bottomless behind She’s Extreme. 1400m fresh tells me he’s forward enough so watch the market.
Race 5. (15:15) Tobin Brothers Celeb. Lives 1700m
16 Lucky Decision (Bet Now: $4.80) has to be the bet here. Peter Moody trained gelding that comes here in winning form after winning over 1800m here last time, finishing best and was strong late in beating Aesop, who I like earlier in the program. Drops to 51kg from 59.5kg and there is a question mark on some of these, whereas he’s found winning form and heading in the right direction.
8 Bermadez (Bet Now: $4.40) tends to run best for Olly and he’s back on. He resumed over 1400m at Flemington when wide no cover for the trip and tired late behind Scallopini. Olly on, he’ll jump on the bunny and provided the resumption hasn’t busted him, he’s hard to beat.
1 Buckhurst (Bet Now: $18.00) is the class runner, by some distance. Just a matter of where he’s at re fitness levels. He hasn’t raced since July 31 2021 when just a run at The Valley behind Mahamdeis. If he’s anywhere near right, he could easily blow this field away. Watch the market and see what it does.
Race 6. (15:50) Jim Moloney Stakes 1400m
8 Typhoon Titmus (Bet Now: $7.00) gets the nod. Griffiths/De Kock trained filly that comes through the Cap D’Antibes where she had zero luck when it mattered and I think with clear air, she wins instead of a third to Nanagui. Was $91-$61 so there was specking for her to run. Olly jumps on, rises to 1400m and with a clear path, she’ll be hard to hold out.
1 Revolutionary Miss (Bet Now: $12.00) is the class of the field and the rise to 1400m I do like for her. Complete forgive fresh in the Silver Shadow before going to the Atlantic Jewel where she didn’t get the rub of the green when it counted and should have finished closer when fifth. Drawn out, should get clear air and class will carry her a long way.
14 Anahita (Bet Now: $21.00) is a big price and I don’t know why. She has done little wrong in two career outings. Debuted with a strong win on a testing track at Echuca before going here and was very good late in the piece behind Waltz On By. Like her up to 1400m and will be strong at the end.
Race 7. (16:25) Underwood Stakes 1800m
With his racing style, I’m in the corner of 1 Zaaki (Bet Now: $2.45). Pattern was in his corner when he resumed in the Tramway but he made a mess of them from the front in what was essentially a barrier trial for prizemoney. He’ll take good improvement from that, he’ll roll, he’ll look the winner…hopefully he can hold off I’m Thunderstruck and Mr Brightside.
2 I’m Thunderstruck (Bet Now: $2.90) is flying. He honestly had no right to win the Makybe Diva. Alligator Blood had total control and looked all over the winner when he kicked clesr but this guy picked up and surged late to nab him. He’s flying…but if this becomes a sit/sprint, I doubt he can pick up Zaaki.
4 Mr Brightside (Bet Now: $4.60) is in the mix. He’s secured his Cox Plate start after the Feehan win so it’s just cotton wool til then. But he’s a very good, genuine horse that still has upside and improvement re condition and coat. This will tell us if he can match it with the big boys or is he a tier below.
Race 8. (16:55) Sandown Stakes 1500m
5 Dragon Leap (Bet Now: $4.80) is on top. He surprised most in the Memsie when a very strong fourth behind Snapdancer. He’s going well…just think he’s much better on firmer footing, and that is the knock with him, especially if the rain comes, but if the track is okay, he’ll take beating.
12 Gentleman Roy (Bet Now: $5.50) is a horse being talked up as a potential Toorak contender, so keen to see how he goes here. He was very good fresh at Caulfield, sitting on a fast speed and fighting on super, only getting beat by a good horse in I Wish I Win. Loves racing on big tracks and if that run hasn’t busted him, he rates highly.
6 Age Of Chivalry (Bet Now: $15.00) is a sneaky knockout hope. First run for the Price/Kent camp came at Moonee Valley a few weeks back in the Chautauqua and he was very stiff, not getting much room to let down when close up behind Aysar. Fitter and up to 1500m on the bigger track, with enormous upside, he’s one I can certainly entertain for wider multiples.
Race 9. (17:30) Testa Rossa Stks 1300m
4 I Wish I Win (Bet Now: $1.95) looks a very promising former Kiwi for Peter Moody that has the hype on him, and rightfully so, because he made an absolute mess of them a few weeks ago over 1400m at Caulfield, spanking them and smashing the clock. I am starting to query how strong his NZ form is, but off the resumption, he has to be rated as one of the hardest to beat.
1 Ayrton (Bet Now: $4.00) is a high quality animal for the Price/Kent stable that resumes and we know that he is an absolute bomb fresh. Mixed Autumn/Winter prep, though he did win fresh at this track/distance. Jumpout was good, likewise the subsequent trial. Just needs an economical run to be around the mark.
If these top two are off their game, look for 10 Gravina (Bet Now: $11.00) to stalk and be hard to beat. Resumed in the Chautauqua where he got a mile back from the wide gate and was never a factor but was good late behind Aysar. Drawn to settle much closer in the run and gets a massive jockey upgrade.
