The Belmont Winter Carnival continues on Saturday where it is HG Bolton Sprint Day. The weather is fine, the track is soft (5) and the rail is out twelve metres for the entire circuit.
Bolton Sprint 🏆: View the Field for the Bolton Sprint
Race 1. (14:11) AGENT FRESH PLATE 1200m
7 Queen Brown (Bet Now: $4.60) would love a rise to 1400m but this Dan Morton trained filly does have a touch of quality about her. Resumed over this track/distance last Wednesday in what was a real on pace dominated affair but loved the way she found the line late against the race shape. 1400m is when I’d bet with confidence with her, but tempo should be more genuine here and she’ll be strong late.
2 Chix Chatter (Bet Now: $5.50) is a son of Galah that resumes for David Harrison. This gelding hasn’t raced since the 2YO Magic Millions at Pinjarra behind stablemate Gemma’s Son when down the track and was looking for the paddock. Lark Hill trial last Monday was quite good and finds a winnable race to resume in.
5 Denim Wars (Bet Now: $16.00) is a son of War Chant for Dan Morton that is on debut. This colt has had a couple of trials in readiness for start one, the latest coming on Monday at Canberra when looking to go about his business nicely when second. Blinkers on for the debut signals some intent and interesting there has been early market support.
Race 2. (14:51) TABTOUCH WESTSPEED (RS0MW) 1000m
Think this is really good placement by Martin Allan when it comes to his tough nut sprinter 1 Sir Mambo (Bet Now: $2.70). Three weeks between runs since racing over 1200m here when far from disgraced in defeat behind the above average Long Beach. Like him back to 1000m and this is a severe drop in depth. Really hard to beat.
7 Tinto Belle (Bet Now: $13.00) is a daughter of My Admiration that resumes for Bruce Watkins. Hasn’t raced since Feb 19 at Ascot over 1000m when down the track behind Cosmic Eyes but by that stage she was at the end of a long prep and looking for the paddock. Trialled pretty well behind the well performed Red Can Man and finds a suitable fresh assignment.
2 Don’s Legacy (Bet Now: $7.00) is a son of Patronize for David Harrison that is first up and I find him a fascinating runner. Hasn’t raced since December 28 at Ascot when down the track behind the then in form State Attorney after sitting wide no cover. Liked the way he went in a Lark Hill trial and can pull out a decent run fresh, so I’d watch the market.
Race 3. (15:31) FREE ENTRY TO BELMONT PK-BM72+ 1000m
I’ll take a punt on 4 Night Voyage (Bet Now: $9.00) for Martin Allan. Five weeks between runs since racing at this track/distance when finishing off with purpose late behind Cryptic Love after getting badly held up early on in the straight. Does he need this run? Perhaps, but the speed should be on and he’ll be strong at the end.
Back in trip is a big tick for the Neville Parnham three year old 5 Indian Pacific (Bet Now: $1.45). Three weeks between runs since racing over 1200m here when on speed and trying hard when third to Long Beach, who won last Saturday to frank the form. Tricky gate, but has the early toe to land near the front here and prove hard to run down.
2 Fire And Rain (Bet Now: $13.00) is a Paul Jordan trained gelding that was unwanted in betting when racing in the Beaufine a fortnight back where he had the drag up in chasing the tearaway leader Mervyn. Presented and loomed as somewhat of a threat, but couldn’t quite finish it off and eventually had to settle for a midfield finish. Think he can run a positive race here at odds.
Race 4. (16:08) PENINSULA DINING ROOM (RS1MW) 1000m
Think the booking of Pike is significant when it comes to the Lou Luciani trained mare 3 Bedouin Belle (Bet Now: $2.70), who resumed over this track/distance back on July 8 where she seemed to get every chance just off the speed but couldn’t quite finish it off when third to Gunflint. Fitter, winnable race and Pike on, she’ll do me here.
Think back to 1000m and firmer footing will certainly help 9 Sea Waif (Bet Now: $5.00). Brett Pope trained filly that was backed as if unbeatable when resuming over 1200m at Pinjarra but gee she found little in the straight and was a big flop behind Great Heist. Pope said post race that the filly might not have handled the wet track, so firmer footing here, draws well and gets McNaught to steer.
Very interesting runner is 6 Misty Lad (Bet Now: $17.00), who resumes for David Harrison. This five year old hasn’t raced since Feb 8 over 2000m at Pinjarra when down the track behind a very good stayer, Too Close The Sun. Resumes without a public trial but his two 1000m runs since coming to WA have been very good, so I think he’s a definite yard/market watch.
Race 5. (16:40) DON MARTIN 70-PLUS B'DAY-BM60+ 2200m
Given the lack of depth engaged here, 5 Truly Great (Bet Now: $2.35) is the pony to bet on. On the quick back up after racing last Saturday over the mile here when off the bit and somewhat struggling early on in the straight but picked up and was really good late. Eats up the staying trip here, got upside and finds a very thin race.
3 Roman Flirt (Bet Now: $2.80) is racing really well this time in for Team Pearce. Ran over 2000m here a fortnight back when wide with cover and a bit keen in the run. Pike eased her wider and she tried hard, but couldn’t quite finish it off when second to Fancy Fox. Up to 2200m is interesting, but hard to knock the way she’s racing.
1 British Bessy (Bet Now: $11.00) is a knockout here. Was on her at the big odds last Saturday and I thought it was a really ordinary ride by Azzopardi. Not sure why he didn’t stick to the fence and get the run the eventual winner Sentimental Gift got, with Pike taking full advantage and she spanked them. British Bessy was pretty much a barrier trial. Better luck here and she’ll run a beauty.
Race 6. (17:20) GLENROY CHAFF (BM62+) 1300m
Back to 1300m is a query with 8 Giant Leap (Bet Now: $3.50), but the tempo should be genuine here and I think sitting off that will really suit him. Beaten as a $1.35 pop fresh before stepping up to 1400m when sitting on speed and despite having to be shaken up late, he was too good under Pike, who remains on. Think sitting off a good speed, he’ll be strong late.
1 Leivtate (Bet Now: $2.25) is an absolute beauty for Simon Miller that will take a power of beating. He took on the older horses over 1200m here two weeks ago when given a sweet ride just off the speed by Harvey and once he clicked the gelding up, away he went and he spanked them. Back to his own age, draws well and the claim certainly helps.
Can 3 Captain Kink (Bet Now: $8.50) stretch his brilliance to 1300m? Mile was too far in the Belmont Guineas behind Kay Cee before coming back to 1200m here two weeks ago when leading throughout and was too good, just. Runner up won last Saturday to tick that form off, so that reads well. Just a little query at him at a strong 1300m.
Race 7. (17:55) H.G. BOLTON SPRINT 1200m
3 Cup Night (Bet Now: $4.50) is a high quality galloper for Bernie Miller that resumes. Would love to know what races the stable has in mind for him because I think he could be a leading local chance for the Railway. Hasn’t raced since the Pinjarra Classic back in February when ridden far too negatively and had far too much to do. Lark Hill trials have been outstanding. 1200m is short of his best but has class.
I find 7 Red Can Man (Bet Now: $2.40) a fascinating runner. Steve Wolfe trained three year old that hasn’t raced since the Autumn when putting together three wins, each of those against the older horses, which is such a good sign. Lit up the Lark Hill turf in a trial win last Monday and with gate one, he’ll take some beating.
1 Electric Light (Bet Now: $13.00) is definitely suited up to 1200m here for Adam Durrant. Run off her legs somewhat in the Beaufine but liked the way she picked up late behind Essential Spice and ran the equal second best last 200m of the race. Love her up to 1200m and can sit much closer in the run. If that eventuates, she’s a massive threat.
Race 8. (18:30) AMELIA PARK (BM72+) 1400m
Remaining at 1400m is the knock with 8 Inspirational Girl (Bet Now: $1.75), but gee she’s above average and her class might well be enough to get her over the line. Was first up off a five month spell when bolting up at this track/distance two weeks ago and was so impressive in putting them away. Would love a rise to the mile, but she might well be too good for them.
13 Serenity Bay (Bet Now: $7.00) is suited back to 1400m for Team Williams. Impressive first up winner over this track/distance before stepping up to the mile three weeks ago when seemingly getting every chance and just whacked away when third to Resistance. Like her back to 1400m and third up, should be just about at peak fitness.
12 Mr Genoa (Bet Now: $31.00) is a Luke Fernie trained gelding who has been solid in three runs back from a spell. Ran over 1200m here a fortnight ago when back in trip and worked home okay without threatening behind Windstorm. Massimo franked that form by winning last Saturday, so that reads well and up to 1400m is a big tick.
Race 9. (19:05) CROWN PERTH (RS1MW) 1400m
He’s a backmarker that needs things to go his way, but 2 Double The Pro (Bet Now: $6.00) is flying at the moment for Luke Fernie and with a peach from Pateman, think he can win. Ran over 1200m here two weeks ago when ridden cold from the wide gate but loved the way he found the line behind dominant winner Levitate. Unknown at 1400m, but is racing as if it will suit.
1 Position Of Power (Bet Now: $3.70) is just over a week between runs for David Harrison since scoring an impressive win in a 0MW race over 1400m here, with Paul Harvey riding a very confident race on the gelding, with the son of Scandal Keeper finishing best. Harder here, but like the way he’s going about it and stable is having a good run.
8 Butterlea Lad (Bet Now: $51.00) should be suited up to the mile for Scott Haley. Resumed over 1300m here a few weeks back when doing work from the wide gate to find the front and his condition gave out late when midfield behind Zero Demerits. Has a much better second up record. Might need one more, but has the right racing pattern to give some cheek.
