The best mares that Sydney has to offer, outside Winx, will continue their charge towards Melbourne when they line up in the feature race at Rosehill this Saturday, the Golden Pendant (1400m), with the support card just as strong. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out five metres for the entire circuit.

Race One (12:15) : #theraces Handicap (78) 2000m:
Back Me: 2 Four Carat (Bet Now: $6.50) for me here. He trialled really well prior to racing here a fortnight back where he sat back off them before peeling wide and looming as a real threat but he just failed to go on with it and was pipped by stablemate Antonio Giuseppe. Has more upside than most here and looks one of the hardest to beat.
Big Danger: 6 Mandalong Kiss (Bet Now: $11.00) was a surprise winner here two back before stepping up to the Kingston Town and gee she ran a beauty when fourth to McCreery. Drops a fair bit in depth here and she is in ripping form. Hard to beat.
Roughie: 11 Plot Twist (Bet Now: $34.00) trialled like a donkey and the first up run was similar, but he was much better last time at Kembla Grange over a trip where Shinn made him work from the 800m and it worked as he stuck on well for third to Karaka Lass. Has upside and can improve enough.
Race Two (12:50) : 2016 Queens Cup 2400m:
Back Me: Some were disappointed with 2 Allergic (Bet Now: $2.30) and his last start third in the Kngston Town here behind McCreery. I thought his effort was alright, he was just outsprinted by a potential Epsom contender. Plus, wet tracks aren’t his go I think. He is much better on top of the ground, and if he gets that here, he’ll be one of the hardest to beat.
Big Danger: 1 Junoob‘s (Bet Now: $4.00) effort in the Newcastle Cup last Friday was full of merit I thought when racing third to stablemate Sacred Master after getting a long way back in the run. He worked home with real purpose and produced one of the fastest final splits of the race. The key to him is a dry track. If he gets it, and if he brings a similar run to last start, he is right in this.
Roughie: A new grandstand will need to be built if 4 Chaquinta (Bet Now: $10.00) was to win. Joe Cleary has done a fab job with this mare in recent times. I remember backing her one day at Canberra and thinking “What kind of camel is this?”, but she has really turned the corner, winning her past three in town, and no matter what the opposition is, that’s a big effort. Not sure she can win this, but she’ll give one hell of a sight.
Race Three (13:25) : TAB Highway Handicap (Class 2) 1500m:
Back Me: 8 Shotgun Roulette (Bet Now: $5.00) has returned in fabulous order, producing a brilliant turn of foot to win fresh before charging home again to run second on Taree Cup Day. Stable doesn’t bring them to town for nothing and she has upside.
Big Danger: 10 Sadihika (Bet Now: $9.00) ran at Muswellbrook a couple of weeks back and closed off hard late from the back to run a close up second to New Ruler. Stable have a very good record in the Highway and this isn’t the strongest edition.
Roughie: 11 Coming In Hot (Bet Now: $21.00) attempted to lead all the way in a Randwick Highway three weeks ago and he gave a really good kick but just tired late when sixth to Grand Rouge. I’m sure the stable could have run on Dubbo Cup Day if they found a race. Instead, they tackle a Highway, so stable confidence perhaps?
Race Four (14:00) : TAB Reginald Allen Quality 1400m:
Back Me: 5 Smart Amelia (Bet Now: $4.40) is still a maiden but that will change in the not too distant future. She resumed in the Furious and was a real eye catcher, making up sold ground between runners to finish fourth to Foxplay, beaten four lengths. She will appreciate the step up in trip and I think too that with a more clear run, she’ll be more effective.
Big Danger: 2 Invincibella (Bet Now: $4.60) was heavily backed when resuming at Canterbury and though she took her time, Avdulla, as he has done many times recently, lifted the horse over to get the win. Form behind her reads very well, she has upside, in the right stable, and does look well placed here.
Roughie: 11 Pecans (Bet Now: $8.00) looked to have a belly on her when resuming at Canterbury a tick over two weeks back yet she went close, going within 0.7L of victory. She should take enormous benefit from that outing and she will be very strong late, I can guarantee that.
Race Five (14:35) : Stan Fox Stakes 1500m:
Back Me: Going to lean towards 2 Divine Prophet (Bet Now: $2.40) in what shapes up to be the race of the day. His effort in the Golden Rose (1400m) was outstanding given he was back near last in the run and took an eternity to wind up, but gee his last 150m was beautiful. Small field and extra 100m is right up his alley and this will be a lovely tune up for the Guineas and then maybe the Cox Plate. Confident he can win.
Big Danger: 1 Impending (Bet Now: $2.60) was the other really good run in the Golden Rose. He had a suck run behind the speed and like first up, he got held up at a crucial stage, but he got clear and worked to the line with purpose late. He is probably the more brilliant out of he and Divine Prophet. 1500m will also suit him and stable is low flying.
Roughie: 6 Mediterranean (Bet Now: $10.00) is the knockout runner at odds. He was the unlucky runner in the Golden Rose I thought given he was held up a touch nearer the inside when he had something to offer. I am not sure he can definitely beat the two horses above him, but at $9 all in, I could certainly entertain him as a speck.
Race Six (15:15) : Schweppes Gloaming Stakes 1800m:
Back Me: 2 Swear (Bet Now: $4.00) looked to trial well leading into his first up run in the Ming Dynasty where he sat outside the speed and despite appearing to not really handling the track, he got the job done impressively. He’ll love the step up to 1800m here, has upside and looks as though he’ll come over from the wide gate without too many dramas.
Big Danger: 3 High Mist (Bet Now: $4.40) took on the older horses at Warwick Farm last Wednesday over the mile where he looked in bother trying to get the run but Bowman shoved into the clear and he found plenty when challenged. Not easy to beat the older horses early in the season, especially in town, so that’s a tick for me, and the run prior in the Ming Dynasty was very good.
Roughie: 8 Honeywine (Bet Now: $11.00) was confidently backed to win a 1500m maiden at Kembla Grange last time out and it was a beaut steer from McDonald that got the colt home. I was keen on Kent to win here, but O’Shea has gone with this bloke and Retalliation, and Honeywine is the pick.
Race Seven (15:55) : Ronald McDonald House Westmead Golden Pendant 1400m:
Back Me: The key runners that are up and running come through the Sheraco (1200m) here a fortnight back, where I thought the clear best run of the race was 9 Denmagic (Bet Now: $10.00). She trialled really well prior to resuming there where the wide gate forced the hand of Tommy Berry to get back to last and hope for luck. Came within 0.6L of getting the job done. Can only see upside, the extra furlong is perfect and there should be more tempo here.
Big Danger: 1 First Seal (Bet Now: $3.20) is the class mare that resumes here for John Thompson. Had four runs in the Autumn, starting off with a super win in the Millie Fox before just finding the class rise up against Winx a bit much but she ran well nonetheless. Trials leading in have been very good and she is a bomb when produced fresh.
Roughie: 1300m to 1200m was a negative regarding 10 Dixie Blossoms (Bet Now: $7.50) in the Sheraco, but gee how unlucky was she. Never clear at any stage of the race when appearing to have plenty to offer and you could make a case she should have won. 1400m is perfect for her and you could say she is pretty much second up still after that barrier trial last start. Massive threat.
Race Eight (16:35) : Shannon Stakes 1500m:
Back Me: He hasn’t won for over two years, but gee I think 2 Entirely Platinum (Bet Now: $9.00) can run a big race here. He has taken on the best of the best for nearly two years now, but perhaps a drop in depth, just like this, is what he needs. He isn’t a wet track horse, and he was glued to the rail, so forget his failure in the Makybe Diva. Firm track, 1500m, on his old home track where he has run some cracking races on…big, big chance.
Big Danger: 4 Hi World (Bet Now: $3.40) was just fair when resuming at Caulfield behind He’s Our Rokkii, who has won since. He then went to Flemington last week and was one of the runs of the day behind Bon Aurum, getting badly held up before eventually getting clear and charging to the line. He has run some very good races in Sydney previously and has a stack of upside.
Roughie: 6 Moral Victory (Bet Now: $7.50) started bolters odds when racing here a fortnight back, but I think credit where credit is due. He made the move and sustained it, going on to win impressively. Rises sharply in grade here, but keep in mind that in the Summer he ran a game fourth to Happy Clapper in the Villiers. Brings that form here and he is right in this.
Race Nine (17:15) : Hyland Race Colours Handicap (85) 1400m:
Back Me: 3 Bullrush (Bet Now: $5.00) has to be given another chance. Forget he went around here fresh behind Moral Victory given he just pulled too hard outside the speed and that gassed him at the finish. In saying that, he was only beaten two lengths. If he is to be considered a Stakes horse, he will have to beat these, and I am confident he will.
Big Danger: 11 Pindan Pearl (Bet Now: $15.00) comes here for Tim Martin off a slight freshen up. 1400m does suit on the fresh side, and while she is better suited over further, she did trial well recently. She will run a very cheeky race for sure, despite the fact there will be improvement.
Roughie: I think one to watch at odds is 2 Herne’s Oak (Bet Now: $21.00). He resumes for Bjorn Baker after a pretty solid Spring/Summer last season, though by the end he raced liked a tired horse. The trials leading in have been outstanding and though unplaced in four fresh attempts, he’ll go close I think.
