Morphettville is where Adelaide racing will take place on Saturday with eight races to be run and won. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out three metres from the 1200m-Winning Post; Out two metres for the remainder.
Race One (12:23) : Adelaide Galvanising Maiden Plate 1100m:
Back Me: 14 Think Out Loud (Bet Now: $5.50) looks the way to go for me here. This So You Think filly resumes for the Stokes yard off the back of three runs during the Autumn where she ran quite well, including a placing behind subsequent Stakes winner Fox Hall. Trial leading in was very good and 1100m fresh is ideal.
Big Danger: 3 Bernie (Bet Now: $3.10) is the big watch here. Talented type that is first up for the Will Clarken. The form guide says he is a maiden but he did win first up last time in, defying an alarming betting drift, but was disqualified. Resumes here with no trials, but at least he is a winner. Wide gate is the worry.
Long Shot: 6 Gronky (Bet Now: $20.00) is a well bred son of Sebring that resumes for the Kennewell camp. He showed really good promise early on last prep but the wheels fell off towards the end. Trialled here a few weeks back and looked okay to my eye despite being beaten seven lengths. Definite market watch.
Race Two (12:58) : BGR Building & Design Handicap 1200m:
Back Me: 1 Phelps Glory (Bet Now: $2.05) looks a near standout for me here. Well bred gelding for Phillip Stokes who resumed in the National Stakes where he got back in the run and looked a bit disinterested but picked up well late behind I’ll Have A Bit. The debut run/win came on the Parks track, but he showed in the fresh run that he has come back in super order.
Big Danger: 7 Emzara (Bet Now: $4.00) was backed as if unbeatable when debuting on the Parks track a fortnight back. She looked to be going okay in the run before getting clear and it looked as if it was game over, but she didn’t ping as expected. Due to the lack of depth engaged here, she goes in, but I wouldn’t be taking anything short with her.
Long Shot: 4 Bring Me Roses (Bet Now: $7.50) is a High Chaparral filly on debut for the Tony McEvoy yard. This girl has only had the one public trial, which came on May 26 at Balaklava when finishing down the track behind stablemate Kid Flash, who ran a beauty last Saturday. Definite market watch with this filly.
Race Three (13:36) : James Boags Premium Handicap (82) 1200m:
Back Me: 2 Strategic Demand (Bet Now: $2.10) resumed over 1000m on the Parks track on April 29 where he was wide all the way and back, but was very good late when running third to the Stakes performed Fine Mist. He then ran over 1100m here where he got badly checked when building up the revs behind Idatwo. Third up now, so he should be ready fitness wise and rates highly.
Big Danger: 6 Last Bullet (Bet Now: $4.50) is a talented galloper that resumes for the John Hyam yard. On his best day, he is a blacktype performer, but in recent times he has performed really poorly. In saying that, his two trials leading in were very good to the eye and he does look wound up, so watch the market.
Long Shot: 4 Redeem Bounty (Bet Now: $11.00) resumed over 1250m on the Parks track four weeks back where he sat near a very slow tempo and just lacked the turn of foot to go with them, and his condition just gave out late behind Counter Pulse. He can be hard to trust, but I think include him here as a threat on his best form.
Race Four (14:13) : UBET Handicap (82) 1600m:
Back Me: 7 Galaxy Gazer (Bet Now: $4.60) toughed it out really strongly to win two back on the Parks track over 1250m before stepping up to 1400m there where he was baked hard late but just didn’t get the luck from the tricky draw behind Lord Topper. He can be hot and cold at times, but so can most engaged here.
Big Danger: 3 Scratchy Lass (Bet Now: $4.40) was once known as an electric sprinter, but as she has gotten older, she is appreciating the longer trips, so the mile here should suit. She ran over 1400m at Murray Bridge last Monday and chased hard when a close up second to Edgewood. Claim certainly helps.
Long Shot: 4 Chestnut Charlie (Bet Now: $11.00) could be an improver here at odds. He comes back to the mile after racing over 1950m on the Parks track two weeks ago where he got stuck in a sticky spot from the gate yet stuck on really well in defeat when fifth to in form galloper General Custer. Better suited on the course proper and loves the mile.
Race Five (14:53) : Holdfast Insurance Handicap (90) 1050m:
Back Me: 7 Core Beach (Bet Now: $3.20) clearly gets the nod for me here. This Matty Seyers trained sprinter has been excellent in two runs back from a break. Carried 62kg to get the job done fresh at Mount Gambier before going to the Valley where he copped severe heat on speed yet fought on well when third to Ability. This looks a considerable drop in depth and rates highly to me.
Big Danger: 4 Usain Dane (Bet Now: $4.60) was kept quite safe in the market three weeks back over 1000m on the Parks track where he got back in a fast run race and closed off his race nicely with real purpose when third to Gun Case. Not the greatest of records on the course proper, but I’m willing to give him another chance here.
Long Shot: 3 Tarco (Bet Now: $5.50) was first up in the Gun Case race three weeks back and gee he looked to travel well in the run under Holder, and presented as the winner at the top of the straight but he weakened right out of it late in the piece. This is D-Day for him but we know that on his day he would bet these.
Race Six (15:33) : Medallion Homes Handicap (64) 1800m:
Back Me: 5 Casino Club (Bet Now: $6.00) is a really good three year old filly for the Roslyn Day yard who deserves a crack in town. She has won three on the trot at the provincials, the latest coming last Monday at Murray Bridge where she proved too good for the older horses. That is a big tick for her leading up to this and should take some beating.
Big Danger: 2 We’re So Lucky (Bet Now: $3.90) had really good market support when racing over 2100m during the Swan Hill Carnival where she was given a lovely ride by Julius and proved too good for them in a good finish. Back to 1800m is the issue, but she’s hard fit and in super form, which should hold her in good stead.
Long Shot: 13 My Naughty Hoaks (Bet Now: $17.00) is a Victorian visitor for the Shawn Mathrick yard who looks to be good value here at around the $21 mark. She ran over 2000m at Wangaratta last time out and just did too much work out wide and rightfully faded out of it late behind Test A Day, who ran okay at Geelong on Friday. Draws much better here and is down in the weights.
Race Seven (16:13) : Schweppes Handicap (70) 1200m:
Back Me: 8 Sudden Wealth (Bet Now: $3.40) clearly on top for me here. This mare landed some good bets when racing over 1400m on the Parks track a fortnight back where she got off the pace in the run before peeling clear and savaging the line late to get the job done. Back to 1200m is the issue, but there does look to be good speed engaged.
Big Danger: 2 Hazy Lane (Bet Now: $8.00) is a handy mare for the Richard Jolly yard who took on the boys three weeks back over 1250m on the Parks track where she sat off them and was close up behind Harbour Grey. Easier here, but does draw awkwardly. The claim for Victor Wong certainly helps.
Long Shot: 5 Joy Flipper (Bet Now: $18.00) is a talented mare that ran over 1200m at Murray Bridge last Monday where she jumped well to sit on speed to lead and she gave a really good kick but was nabbed near the peg, just not quite running the trip out with the weight. She’ll take some beating here with a softer trip.
Race Eight (16:49) : Hughes Limousines Handicap (70) 1100m:
Back Me: 4 Classy Jack (Bet Now: $18.00) is an absolute nightmare to follow, but he finds such a winnable race here. He attempted to lead all the way at this track/distance last Saturday and gave a really good kick but just tired late behind Tempting Faith. Clearly less depth here and is well weighted with the claim.
Big Danger: 1 Fine Approach (Bet Now: $12.00) is the big watch here. Quality mare that is first up for Ryan Balfour and on her best form, she is definitely up to these and better. Had some really good form next to her name last time in, her trial recently was quite encouraging and she is an absolute bomb when produced fresh.
Long Shot: 8 Ascendance (Bet Now: $17.00) had his first run for the Koch yard a fortnight back over 1000m on the Parks track where he did a power of work out wide on speed and that early effort told on him behind Itz Invincible. Provided that gutbuster hasn’t taken much out of him, he’s a knockout hope.
