24/4/2021 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Morphettville, Chairman’s Stakes day

A strong nine race card has been assembled for Morphettville Parks this Saturday, keeping in mind that the last two races will be run on the course proper. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit, while on the course proper it is out twelve metres from the 1200m-400m; Out ten metres from the 400m-Winning Post; Out two metres from the 2000m-1800m; Out seven metres from the 1800m-1200m.

Well this is all about 6 Fall On A Star (Bet Now: $2.25). If she’s anywhere near right, she wins. Formerly with Kris Lees, this filly now finds herself with Phillip Stokes. The form around her just reads far superior to anything engaged here and was given a good hit out when winning a trial here two weeks ago. Happy to be with her.

4 Transference (Bet Now: $20.00) is a son of No Nay Never on debut for Ricky Moore. This three year old has had two trials to get ready for start one, the latest trial seeing him run quite well I thought when third to Fall On A Star. Pannell is the form rider in SA at the moment and him being booked after riding in both trials is a good lead.

1 Covered Call (Bet Now: $12.00) is an Adelaide gelding for Jon O’Connor that debuts. He ran second in the same trial mentioned above that Fall On A Star won. He led most of the way and though beaten late, and pushed out, I thought he responded well enough to suggest he can be competitive here at start one.

6 Soul Obsession (Bet Now: $4.80) is a handy daughter of I Am Invincible for the Freedman camp that resumes. This girl hasn’t raced since January 30 when winning a moderate 0MW race on the course proper here under a confident steer from Todd Pannell. Liked the way she went in a recent Flemington jumpout and finds a suitable race to resume in.

1 Too Good Too Hard (Bet Now: $3.70) is a quality mare for Phillip Stokes that resumes. This girl has got strong Saturday metro form next to her name, including a Stakes placing last start behind Savatoxl. Looked well enough in a recent trial and she does get in very well after the claim for Opperman.

3 Streetcar Stranger (Bet Now: $4.40) has returned well. Pass mark for sure fresh on the Parks track behind Larkham before going to the Railway at Oakbank. Not sure the tight track was to his liking but I liked the way he finished his race off. If he’s within range on the turn, he’s good enough to beat these.

1 Maritana (Bet Now: $3.10) hasn’t done much wrong this time in for Julien Welsh. Thought he was a definite pass mark fresh at Mornington behind impressive winner Ginger Jones before heading to Caulfield where he chased a strong speed and battled on pretty well I thought when third to Blinder.

7 Skilled Bunch (Bet Now: $3.00) has a liking for the Parks track and back on firmer footing, I think she can bounce back. On face value, she was plain three weeks ago at Oakbank behind Going Gaga, but the track was borderline heavy by the time her race came around and she is a mare who is much better on top of the ground, which is what she gets here.

3 Classy Joe (Bet Now: $17.00) is a John Hickmott trained middle distance horse that resumes. He really came of age when last in work, graduating from an ordinary midweek horse to going on to become a solid Saturday metro performer. Resumes without a trial, but can sprint well fresh so watch the market.

D-Day here for 6 Mister Yu Shu (Bet Now: $4.00). If he can’t put this field away then he is in trouble. He has shown enough to suggest he has a good engine under the hood. Just his race sense is terrible and he has an awful racing pattern. If he can use gate one to advantage and settle closer in the run, he’s better than these.

11 Born To Play (Bet Now: $3.90) is three weeks between runs since racing over 1400m at Oakbank. She was hard in the market and seemed to have her chance but was just no match for a very impressive Going Gaga. She has talent, but is 1/6 to start her career so she is getting close towards D-Day.

8 He’s A Balter (Bet Now: $3.70) should prove hard to beat for Will Clarken. Had his first run for the stable two weeks ago on the course proper and he charged home from the back, just missing out on the win when a close up third to Lady Dunmore. Fitter and up to 1400m, clearly is one of the hardest to beat.

I reckon this is really good placement by Simon Foster with 13 Over There (Bet Now: $4.20). She is a provincial class mare in Victoria but that form does stack up very well for what looks a very moderate 60 at Saturday level in Adelaide. Didn’t think she was too bad at Kyneton last time after spotting them a decent start. Lane on, draws well, she’ll be strong late.

3 Debbonaire Boy (Bet Now: $3.20) has some solid Victorian form around him which does read well for a race like this. Latest run came at Sandown when near the speed and battled on pretty well in defeat when fourth to Staredown. With the scratchings, the wide draw doesn’t look too bad of a negative.

7 Marina (Bet Now: $15.00) is a son of Ocean Park for John Hickmott that resumes. This guy has been given a good break, having not raced since July 29 at Balaklava when down the track and running last in a field of eight. Was 4.8L off Kenyan Wonder first up last prep which does read very well for what looks a moderate 60.

6 Annavisto (Bet Now: $2.25) can continue her winning ways. She has won three of four this time in and the time she was defeated, you could easily make a case to say she should have won. Landed on speed two weeks ago at Caulfield and in a slowly run race, sitting on speed ensured she was hard to beat and that she was. Spanked them and was too good. Confident she can win again.

8 Agreeable (Bet Now: $3.70) is a talented filly for the Freedman camp who should prove hard to beat here. Three weeks between runs since racing over 1400m at Caulfield and what impressed me about the win was the way she kept chasing. She was spotting them a tidy start at one stage but she found when required and was impressive I thought. Hopefully she can go on with it.

3 Sparkup (Bet Now: $23.00) should appreciate the rise to 1400m. Needed to put a maiden win on the board and he got it last time out at Mildura over 1200m. He looked a good thing on paper, and that was reflected in the price where he started $1.50. Took a little while to wind up but in the end, class got him home. First four contender.

This just looks the perfect set up for 2 Groundswell (Bet Now: $2.25). He is a 1400m specialist and loves to roll along on speed. That is the perfect style for the Parks track so he’s hard to beat. Led throughout and was dominant in winning several weeks ago at Bendigo, running good time. Confident he can measure up to these.

5 Magna Bella (Bet Now: $8.50) is a quality mare for Andrew Clarken that deserves a crack at blacktype again. Defied somewhat of a betting drift when resuming with a win two weeks ago on the course proper here. Live, it looked like Designer Chef got the bob, but the photo went the way of Magna Bella. Fitter and up in trip, she appeals.

3 Regal Di Gaetano (Bet Now: $17.00) will very much welcome the drop in depth/grade after contesting the All Star Mile at the Valley. The track was bottomless and he struggled, but he did beat four runners home, which is a huge pass mark given he was considered pretty much a rank outsider.

This has looked a real target race for 11 Princess Raffles (Bet Now: $10.00) since the SA Magic Millions, which was over 1200m. Has had two 1000m runs since and she has hit the line with purpose each time, suggesting a rise in trip will suit, which is what she gets here, so she rates highly against this lot.

6 Cloudy (Bet Now: $5.00) has been up a little while but James Cummings has her holding her form nicely. Was good late two back at Bendigo behind Starry Legend before going to the Dequetteville where she had to chase stablemate Translation, but she dug in when required and surged hard late to win. 1200m should be fine and is in the right camp.

9 Isles Of Avalon (Bet Now: $5.50) is a well bred filly for Andrew Noblet that debuts in the Dequetteville two weeks ago. Sat back off the speed before peeling wider and finishing off strongly, just missing out on the win when a close up third to Cloudy. Off that effort, the 1200m should be ideal.

5 Deepstrike (Bet Now: $3.30) looks to be ticking along beautifully towards the Derby. Loved the way he attacked the line to break his maiden tag fresh at Pakenham before going to Sandown where he was back in a slowly run race but built the revs, crept into the race and gee he was strong and dominant late. Confident he can take this out.

1 Royal Mile (Bet Now: $3.50) is heading in the right direction for Lee Creek and has to be regarded as a leading chance here off the back of his Port Adelaide Guineas triumph, where he finished hard nearer the inside to get up and score a Stakes win. Off that win, which was over 1800m, the extra furlong should be no issue.

11 Montepulciano (Bet Now: $51.00) has been earmarked as a Derby horse for several months so keen to see if he’s indeed up to that level. Far from disgraced in the Port Adelaide Guineas I thought given he had to make a sustained run chasing a genuine tempo. Just felt the pinch late. Hoping for a more conservative steer, so he has something to chase.

NEXT BEST: Race Six Number 6 Annavisto

LONG SHOT: Race Eight Number 11 Princess Raffles
