Punters will be holding their breath as Eagle Farm faces its first test this Saturday since being given a break to try and get back to its best, with the meeting highlighted by the Group ll Victory Stakes (1200m). The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (11:15) Xxxx Dry Hcp (C3) 1200m
Going with the horse who I think will be strongest at the end of the Eagle Farm 1200m, which IMO is 1 Tumbler Ridge (Bet Now: $1.80). Five weeks between runs since racing over 1350m at Doomben where he spotted them a start in the small field and couldn’t quite get past Starosa, who got it soft on speed and was too good, just. He’s the safe option I think.
2 Highland Son (Bet Now: $5.50) is a son of Bel Esprit for Stuart Kendrick that was relatively safe in betting when debuting on his home track at the Sunny Coast where he got a soft run just off the speed and was held up for a few strides but got clear late and surged the last few strides to win. Off that, 1200m should be fine and gets a lovely run from the barrier.
7 Cosmic Gossip (Bet Now: $8.00) is a daughter of Spill The Beans for Stuart Kendrick that resumes. This filly hasn’t raced since March 21 when down the track here in a 2YO race behind surprise winner Mishani Epic. Trialled at the Sunny Coast and looked to go well when second to Wolf Moon, who came out last Friday night and won like a potential Stakes class horse, so think that reads well for this.
Race 2. (11:50) Ascot Green Plate (C6) 1400m
Going to give 6 Enterprise Prince (Bet Now: $13.00) another chance. Was really good first up over 1200m behind Racecourse Road before going to 1350m where he was simply just awful behind Red Chase, getting back and failing to fire a shot. He did pull up with a poor post race recovery, so be forgiving, and onto Eagle Farm at 1400m, he’s likeable if he brings his best.
Desleigh Forster has 8 Red Chase (Bet Now: $3.00) flying at the moment. Loved the way he knuckled down to win two back at the Sunny Coast before going the 1350m at Doomben where he had the A1 run in transit just behind the speed before getting the split and he dashed right away for an impressive win. Harder here, but he should measure up and go close.
5 Reckless Choice (Bet Now: $7.50) is the class runner of the field and that will carry him a long way here. Resumes for Steve O’Dea, having not raced since Magic Millions Day when a game second to Etana, held but far from disgraced in defeat behind that mare. Two trials leading in have been good, likes racing at Eagle Farm…does he need this run though?
Race 3. (12:25) Canadian Club Hcp (C6) 1000m
The market will be the guide here for me because I am in the corner of 3 Bring It Home Pop (Bet Now: $4.60), a quality galloper who resumes for Darryl Hansen. Hasn’t raced since the QTIS race on Magic Millions Day when outclassed but far from disgraced behind Outback Barbie. Interesting he resumes without a trial, but his form just reads better than these.
Bigger track and up to 1000m are two big ticks for 5 Desert Man (Bet Now: $4.40), who ran over 900m at the Gold Coast last time out and was just run off his legs, but liked the way he finished his race off to finish third. Can sit much closer in the run from the good gate and he was around a month between runs last time, so has improvement to come you would assume.
9 Fussdinado (Bet Now: $20.00) is definitely worth another look here back on firmer footing. First run for Barry Lockwood came on a Soft track at the Sunny Coast where he didn’t really fire a shot behind Totally Charmed in a disappointing effort. Prior efforts this prep were very good and he’s a horse who is clearly better on top of the ground.
Race 4. (13:00) Tab (Bm78) 1800m
11 So Dapper (Bet Now: $5.00) looks ready to produce his best. Solid enough resumption at the Sunny Coast over 1200m before going to the mile at Doomben when off the speed throughout and pretty much just stayed there behind Tokoriki Lad. He’ll eat up 1800m on the bigger track and third up from a break, should be hard fit now.
5 Red Stina… (Bet Now: $4.00) I know there is a few punters that are filthy with her. You could make a case that she should have won two, maybe three races this prep. But she has an awful habit of flopping out of the barriers and doesn’t help herself at all. Up to 1800m I do like for her. Just hopefully for her fans she doesn’t bomb the start.
2 Endless Days (Bet Now: $26.00) is getting out to a more ideal trip and does look an improver at odds. He comes through the Sir Barnabus race from a few weeks back where he got back in the run and couldn’t come on at all. 2000m+ is when he comes into his own, so perhaps needs one more, but does have a pretty solid third up record.
Race 5. (13:40) Tab (Bm78) 1200m
9 Totally Charmed (Bet Now: $7.00) is a lightly raced son of I Am Invincible for Steve O’Dea that had trialled up enormous prior to resuming at the Sunny Coast where he wasn’t even sighted as a winning chance until around the 150m mark where he was getting the splits and burst through late to snatch the win off the proven city performer Stellar Power. That was 1000m and clearly, he’ll appreciate 1200m here on the big track. Hard to beat.
4 Solar Star (Bet Now: $6.00) is a Tony Gollan trained mare that is racing pretty well at the moment. Three weeks between runs since racing over 1200m at Doomben when near the speed throughout and battled away strongly in defeat when third to the in form Mr Bellagio. Can be hit and miss, but if she holds her form, hard to beat.
2 Defence Missile (Bet Now: $8.00) has run well on the seven day back up before so I wouldn’t put a line through him despite a disappointing effort last Saturday at Doomben where he was off the speed, had his chance, and failed to fire a shot. Has a handy enough record at Eagle Farm and should sit closer in the run from the gate.
Race 6. (14:15) Champagne Classic 1200m
This is all about 2 Wild Ruler (Bet Now: $6.00) for me. Talented colt for Team Snowden that resumed three weeks ago on the Kenso track when a notable drifter in betting and while the market move was right, he was still game in defeat behind Macroura, and that filly won the Woodlands last Saturday to frank the form. Trial last week was first class and he looks ready to rock and roll.
1 Rothfire (Bet Now: $2.50) is a quality son of Rothesay for Rob Heathcoate that resumes. Hasn’t raced since the Jewel Day at the Gold Coast where he was Winx odds to take out the 2YO feature, but simply was just no match for Kisukano, and you’d have to say failed at 1200m, so that’s the knock leading into this, but he’s got brilliance in spades.
4 Beyliks (Bet Now: $12.00) is a well bred colt for James Cummings and Godolphin that resumes. He has always showed the potential to be a Stakes class horse but hasn’t really lived up to what he showed during the Spring. Has been specifically targeted for this and the JJ Atkins, and his two trials leading in have been quite good to the eye.
Race 7. (14:55) Gunsynd Classic 1800m
1 Profit (Bet Now: $5.50) is crying out for more ground and a big track, the set up he gets here. The effort behind Vanna Girl at Doomben was just fair, but they went very slow in that race, and he’s a big horse, so the sit/sprint scenario clearly wasn’t to his liking. Like him up to 1800m and getting to Eagle Farm, a big track, will suit.
It’s a battle it seems between 5 Kinane (Bet Now: $1.90) and Russian Camelot as to who will be the flagbearer for Australia in the Melbourne Cup. Great to see Kinane here. Could have easily gone to the paddock after his win in the Frank Packer, and could have been sold to HK interests, but they’ve rejected the offers and are daring to dream. His Rosehill tick over trial was very good, he’s got a bit on these re class/brilliance…if there is a knock, it’s back to 1800m and the wide gate, but he’s got so much upside.
11 Impactful (Bet Now: $41.00) is a big improver here. He comes through the Vanna Girl race at Doomben from two weeks ago and was one of many just not suited by the very slow early tempo, and considering the winner has run the last 600m in around 33.5, those from the back had no chance. Run prior behind the in form Grand Piano hinted he was back on track.
Race 8. (15:35) Victory Stakes 1200m
Buttering up with 15 Outback Barbie (Bet Now: $7.00). Loved the way she trialled leading into her resumption in the BRC Sprint two weeks ago where she had the perfect run behind the speed and once she got the split, it looked race over, but she just hit a flat spot instead of sprinting and that was the difference between winning and losing when a close up third to Tambo’s Mate. Giving her another chance on the bigger track and longer straight.
8 Vega One (Bet Now: $3.90) is ticking along beautifully towards the Stradbroke. The replay speaks for itself first up at the Sunny Coast and to an extent, it was similar in the BRC Sprint. Ridden very negatively from the wide gate and again hit the line with purpose. It’s getting close to D-Day and the Stradbroke, so you’d like to think they’ll be more positive.
11 Deep Image (Bet Now: $8.00) looks back on track. Gave up the lead first up in the Hall Mark and failed to fire a shot behind Greyworm at Randwick. Then went to the BRC Sprint where they were much more positive nearer the speed and he showed good fight in the straight when a narrow second to Tambo’s Mate. Hard fit and his record at Eagle Farm is outstanding.
Race 9. (16:15) Mittys (Bm72) 1400m
10 Spending My Time (Bet Now: $11.00) is a Paul Nolan Jr trained four year old that is hard to beat here. Last couple of runs have come over 1200m, the latest being two weeks ago at Doomben when back and finishing off strongly to run a close up fourth to Depths Below. He’s crying out for further, which he gets here, and should love the bigger track.
Back to 1400m I do like for 8 Erringhi Spring (Bet Now: $6.00). Ran over the mile at Doomben two weeks ago when into a good spot just off the speed and tried very hard, but couldn’t quite see it out when a close up third to Tokoriki Lad. Back to 1400m is a big tick, and despite drawing wide, has early speed and can overcome that with a positive ride.
12 Trail Of Glory (Bet Now: $6.00) has always looked a mare that will appreciate 1400m and she gets to that trip for the first time this prep. Ran over 1200m at Doomben last time out when back near last in the run and held up before getting clear air late and working home strongly to run second to stablemate Hollaback Girl. 1400m looks ideal, as does the big track.
