Race 1. (12:15) Midway (Bm72) 1500m
3 Wrathful (Bet Now: $4.20) is a talented animal for Sam Kavanagh that resumes. This guy is first up, having not raced since May 27 when racing over 2000m at Randwick where he got a mile out of his ground and while he was never a threat, he was good late in the piece behind Naval College. His two trials leading in have been strong and first up at 1500m, to me, signals intent.
1 Elettrica (Bet Now: $5.00) is knocking on the door to win for Team Freedman. She ran in the Midway at Randwick two weeks ago, getting back near last in the run but came wide and launched late, just missing out on the win when second to Kingston Charm. If she can settle closer in the run, she’ll still be effective late and with that, rates highly.
8 Chateaux Park (Bet Now: $101.00) is one I can entertain for wider exotics. Jason Coyle trained gelding that resumed on the home deck at Warwick Farm over 1400m where he got back to near last in the run and did make up headway but was never really a threat behind Sweet Mercy. Fitter and up in trip…doubt he wins but a first four contender.
Race 2. (12:50) N E Manion Cup 2400m
9 Canberra Legend (Bet Now: $8.00) is nearing D-Day otherwise his future is over jumps. He’s a very one paced animal that will have no issue running 2400m. Just not sure how fast he’ll run it. Had every chance in the Randwick City Stakes but failed to fire behind Serpentine. Hard fit, home track…last chance territory.
4 Post Impressionist (Bet Now: $3.90) clearly commands respect. William Haggas trained stayer that has eyes on the Sydney Cup and will use this as a platform. His UK form, as a whole, isn’t overly deep re quality, but the stable rarely get it wrong when they come down under and he looks as though he will eat up a 2400m slog.
3 Manzoice… (Bet Now: $14.00) is he nearing D Day too? Derby winner from 2022 who hasn’t really set the world on fire this time in, for a while even, but he does get to an ideal trip now, he has home track advantage and he does have class when right.
Race 3. (13:25) Epona Stakes 1900m
She was a $51 chance and first up, so it went through to the keeper, but gee 8 So Dazzling (Bet Now: $21.00) was given a sore back by Marquand in the Aspiration, sitting three/four wide no cover for the trip. Credit to her, she actually stayed on and was solid enough in defeat given the run she had. Fitter and up in trip, and hopefully with a more economical run, she’s dangerous.
5 Osmose (Bet Now: $2.90) is a key threat for GaiBott. She resumed a fortnight back in the Aspiration where she was on speed throughout and tried her guts out but just didn’t have the change up speed to go with Lekvarte late in the piece, finishing second. Good upside/improvement, good racing style, she takes beating.
10 Premise (Bet Now: $13.00) looks on track this prep. John O’Shea trained mare that comes through the Aspiration where she a suck run on the fence and kept finding the line, closing off really well late kin the piece behind Lekvarte, finishing fourth. Hard fit and up to 1900m, she appeals as a key winning chance.
Race 4. (14:00) Darby Munro Stakes 1200m
6 Schwarz (Bet Now: $5.50) looks a very good three year old for John O’Shea that resumes. This guy, potentially, could be a Group l talent so it will be fascinating to see how he goes. He did a good job in the Spring, ending the prep with a spank job win on Champions Day at Flemington over 1400m. Likely has eyes on the Arrowfield Sprint and with extensive trial work under the belt, he’s ready to rock and roll.
2 Brave Mead (Bet Now: $4.50) is several weeks between runs for Ciaron Maher since contesting the Zeditave at Caulfield where he just got a bit too far back in the run and on a day where those on speed were suited, he did a really good job to get as close as he did. If he can settle closer, he’s very genuine and is hard to beat.
1 Corniche (Bet Now: $14.00) is a key chance. James Cummings trained colt that resumed in the Fireball at Randwick where he got back in the run but finished off his race with real purpose late in the piece when second to Infancy. Good improvement to come, up in trip, he appeals.
Race 5. (14:35) Ranvet Stakes 2000m
I love 3 Buckaroo (Bet Now: $8.50) and am happy to be in his corner here. I am a big fan of this horse and he confirmed his trial work, finishing off the race with real purpose late in the piece behind Fangirl in the Apollo. Dodged the Verry Elleegant to be kept on ice for this, he looks spot on and I don’t see the trip being an issue at all. Hard to beat.
1 Think It Over (Bet Now: $3.20) is a star for Kerry Parker and he’s not a giant killer. He’s won enough races to say he is a giant and with no Fangirl, he’s one of the big stars. Great ride by Nash helped him win the Verry Elleegant at Randwick, cutting back inside before angling wider into clear air to finish best. 2000m no issue and with upside/improvement, rates highly.
4 Zeyrek (Bet Now: $14.00) is one I can see pinching a first four spot at a price. He resumed in the Newcastle Stakes where he pretty much had another barrier trial. He got back off the speed and for mine, he was trucking into the contest but when it came to getting clear, it didn’t eventuate and gee it was an ugly watch. Fitter, up in trip, he’s one for wider exotics.
Race 6. (15:15) Rosehill Guineas 2000m
4 Tom Kitten (Bet Now: $3.20), IMO, is being set for the Derby, but that said, he’s going to take beating here. He was luckless in the Randwick Guineas, getting badly held up at a crucial stage and wasn’t able to build momentum, which is key for the horse because he needs time to wind into his work. Hard fit, 2000m, he appeals.
2 Riff Rocket (Bet Now: $2.70) is hard to beat. He tried hard in the Australian Guineas but just lacked the required change up speed and for mine, was already looking like a horse wanting more ground, which he gets here, and will be very strong at the end. Right in the mix.
9 Ceowulf (Bet Now: $15.00) is a horse that looks to be ticking along really nicely. He comes through the Randwick Guineas where he was one paced when asked but he stayed on and kept finding the line in a good effort behind Celestial Legend. Couldn’t back him to win but a must for exotics.
Race 7. (15:55) George Ryder Stakes 1500m
16 Militarize (Bet Now: $4.80) is a very good three year old that looked the winner when presented in the Randwick Guineas two weeks ago but found one better, just, in a star in the shape of Celestial Legend. He’s hard fit, has home track advantage and I am convinced he is a classy animal, so he commands respect despite taking on the older horses and happy to have him on top.
1500m might well be the sweet spot for 18 Veight (Bet Now: $9.00). He just didn’t quite run out the mile well enough to win the Australian Guineas last time but did beat the rest comfortably. Connections are desperate to win a big one and I feel 1500m is perfect. Definite winning chance against these.
4 Kovalica (Bet Now: $17.00) looks right on track. He resumed three weeks ago in the Liverpool City Cup where he got back to near last in the run and while he was never a threat, I really liked the way he found the line late in the piece behind Phearson. Likely has eyes on the Doncaster/Queen Elizabeth but he’s going well enough to be a serious threat.
Race 8. (16:40) Golden Slipper 1200m
I have been hot on 7 Switzerland (Bet Now: $5.00) for the Slipper for a number of weeks and won’t be dropping off here. All three career wins from as many runs, each time he has been arrogant the way he has put them away. Yes, the race shape set it up for him in the Todman, but he still had to take advantage and that he did, drawing clear. He’ll eat up a hard run 1200m and J Mac remains on, which I love.
1 Storm Boy (Bet Now: $2.60) is the favourite, a deserving favourite…but I could back him at the shorts? I am saying no. He is three weeks between runs since a comfortable win in the Skyline where he was never getting beat…could he have won more impressively? I am saying yes, but physically, he looks a four year old vs two year olds, and he gets Ryan Moore…he can win, clearly, but he’s not a betting proposition at the short odds.
I think 5 Traffic Warden (Bet Now: $31.00) is the best long shot in the race, by a mile. His Sires win was arrogant and he did it from the front, into the wind. He has versatility re pattern, he’ll be very strong at the end of 1200m…the key was him drawing well and he has done that. I have him much shorter than $34.
Race 9. (17:20) The Galaxy 1100m
The each way bet for me here is clearly 6 Buenos Noches (Bet Now: $20.00). I think you have to be very forgiving of his two runs this time in. Nash gave him none first up before going to the Newmarket where he pulled up lame in a total forgive behind Cylinder. For mine, he is a horse best suited when getting his toe, which he gets here, and maps to get a great run. He’s the each way bet for me.
13 Ozzmosis (Bet Now: $9.50) is a ripping three year old that is resuming for Bjorn Baker. He hasn’t raced since securing his life post race when an on speed winner of the Coolmore Stud. Trial work has been very good to the eye in readiness for the return, he’ll land on the bunny and this has been a thought out prep so there is clear intent here, especially with eyes towards the career CV.
14 Front Page (Bet Now: $13.00) has had a couple of runs for Matty Dale, which came in the Spring. First up, he was dynamic from the front in The Kosciuszko before going to the Champions Sprint where he was far from disgraced in defeat behind gun mare Imperatriz. He is a bomb fresh horse who has trialled up super. Not sure he wins, but a must for exotics.
Race 10. (17:55) Birthday Card Stakes 1200m
7 Sounds Of Heaven (Bet Now: $35.00) is the one that interests me. Group l performer from overseas that makes her Australian debut for Joe Pride. I can’t recall Pride with an import like this but he is a gun with sprinters, tried horses…just a gun in general, and I think this girl was jogging in a recent Warwick Farm trial. The each way speck in the get out.
11 Tashi (Bet Now: $6.50) is three weeks between runs for Team Snowden since a strong win at Randwick where she was tucked in behind the speed before angling clear and in a driving finish late, she was too good in winning. She has come back in just about career best form and she’s very genuine. Leading contender.
5 Tintookie (Bet Now: $11.00) is a ripping mare for Brad Widdup and rates highly. This mare was bursting to win a Stakes race and it came two weeks ago in the Wenona Girl, getting the sweet sit in transit before being clicked up and away she went for a dominant win. Hard fit, in form, lands in a good spot again…definite threat despite the gate.
