23/12/2017 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Gold Coast

Metro racing in Queensland this Saturday heads to the Gold Coast as we gear up towards the Magic Millions in a few weeks. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out four metres from the 1400m-Winning Post; Out 2.5 metres for the remainder.

2 Boom Boom Epic (Bet Now: $2.80) on top. Toby Edmonds trains this filly and I think she’s the one to beat after a couple of really good efforts at Doomben. Wide no cover two back when nabbed by Magnufighter before stepping up to the mile where it looked no betting on the turn but she wanted to lay in and that allowed Zofonic Dancer to get her. If she runs straight, she wins this.

1 All Too Huiying (Bet Now: $2.70) is the very interesting runner. Gary Moore trains this bloke and he hasn’t raced since scoring an upset win at blacktype level over 1800m on Oaks Day at Flemington. Michael Walker controlled things beautifully in front and the horse kicked hard when required. Given a tick over trial at Rosehill and on form/class, he’s the one. Break between runs the concern.

7 Red Phantom (Bet Now: $20.00) is a progressive three year old for Tony Gollan who probably lacks the class of the first two but he will be strong at the end of 1800m. Ran over this track/distance three weeks back against the older horses and just missed out when a narrow second. Byrne takes over and I think he could well be value.

I think 14 Crusher (Bet Now: $2.40) should put this lot away. Very smart filly first up for the Ben Currie yard who hasn’t raced since May 17 when scoring a narrow but impressive win at this track/distance. Resumes with no trials, but from what we have seen, she comes to hand quickly and she has the pace to lead these up and take some beating.

5 Life’s Like That (Bet Now: $16.00) is a beauty for the Greg Cornish team. Stuck on really well two back at Ipswich behind Truculent before going to the Cannonball Final at Kilcoy where he was given a peach from Tay Williams and he showed good grit late to win. These scampers are his go and he’s hard fit, plus he’s tough.

7 Raido (Bet Now: $23.00) has done bugger all in three runs since joining the Tony Gollan but in a race like this, he could potentially bounce back hard. He ran over 1000m at Ipswich last time out and didn’t do a great deal behind Bonsho, but he’ll get a hot speed in front of him, firm surface and big track. Don’t be surprised to see improvement.

6 Katy’s Daughter (Bet Now: $6.00) is a well bred filly for Steve O’Dea who debuted in the Sizzling at Doomben three weeks back and after getting well out of her ground, and wobble on the turn, she balanced up and hit the line strongly to run second to impressive winner Ardoyne Road. Back to 900m the negative but she should come on with the run under the belt

1 Mishani Phantom (Bet Now: $5.00) is the big watch. Kelly Schweida trains this horse and he was backed off the map on debut back in October at Doomben and after showing dazzling early speed, he kicked hard, but was no match late for Hopes Eternal. Trialled very nicely last week and looks ready to go.

2 Awesome Mo (Bet Now: $5.00) is an Uncle Mo gelding first up for Liam Birchley. He made his debut in the Pat O’Shea at Toowoomba and was just blown away by the very speedy Hopes Eternal. Been given two solid trials to prepare for his return so he has been given a good grounding for a likely hard 900m assignment.

6 Sunlight (Bet Now: $2.00) is a regally bred filly first up for the Tony McEvoy yard. She is heading towards the Magic Millions and was down to run in the Calaway Gal last weekend but was scratched, instead tackling the softer option. Ran sharp time in winning a trial here on December 7 under Jamie Kah and the debut run at Flemington in October looks very good upon reflection.

5 Spirit’s Pride (Bet Now: $10.00) is a Spirit Of Boom colt on debut for Michael Nolan and he is a big watch. Has only had the one public trial, which came back in September when doing nothing. But the big key is that Jeff Lloyd, who I’d assume could have ridden Ancient Aztec, instead rides this horse, so obviously he has impressed in jump outs.

2 Ancient Aztec (Bet Now: $14.00) is an Aquis Farm colt on debut for the Toby Edmonds team. He has only had the one race trial, which came here on December 7 where he was wide throughout and under riding but he found the line nicely late to run second. I think he will improve with time, but is on his home track and always respect the stable.

9 Windcatcher (Bet Now: $8.00) for me. Les Kelly trains this bloke and he has been really consistent this time in. He hasn’t raced since November 18 over 1400m here when looming large to win but just not quite seeing out the strong 1400m when third to Gouldian. Goes well on the fresh side and loves racing on his home track.

10 Criquette (Bet Now: $6.00) is a talented mare for the Wood/Gesler yard that should be forgiven for her first up failure at Doomben. She was wide most of the way and I think being first up, the wet track was against her and she just whacked away. That run should bring her on and I think the firmer footing should see her running a beauty.

5 Rock On Destiny (Bet Now: $13.00) is a Kim Anderson trained gelding who lapped up the soft track last time out at Ipswich when leading all the way and bolting in. That was a Class One and it looked to have a bit of depth to it. More depth here, but he draws well, has the right racing pattern, fit and in form.

Taking a chance on 13 Ruler (Bet Now: $5.00). Team Snowden used to train this horse and he is making his QLD debut for the in form Les Kelly yard. His two runs in NSW read very well for this, racing behind some quality types. Bolted up in a trial here on December 7 and it’s a good sign that they elect to run him in a open 3YO race and not a maiden. Confidence from the stable perhaps.

7 Francisca (Bet Now: $4.50) is a talented filly for the Steve O’Dea camp that is first up here. She was a bit hit and miss at times early on in her career but she put it together last prep and was impressive in winning a couple on the bounce. Has been given a couple of solid trials and to my eye she will certainly be forward enough to run well.

11 Cool Mover (Bet Now: $10.00) is still a maiden but she’s right in this race I feel. She resumed in the Mode Plate at Doomben and despite starting long odds, I thought she ran really well in defeat behind Pretty Fast and stuck to the task quite gamely. I think the Magic Millions maiden might be her race but a win here wouldn’t shock me.

5 Sheza Lily (Bet Now: $2.25) looks one of the better bets right across Australia. Les Kelly trains this mare and she is absolutely low flying at the moment. Strung together three sharp wins prior to racing over the 2000m at Doomben a fortnight back where I thought Rodd steered the mare far too negatively and then got held up as Singing booted for home. No qualms back to 1800m and this race carries less depth.

7 Aqua Vite (Bet Now: $4.60) is trained on the track by Scott Morrisey and it was really good to see this gelding get back into the winners list last Saturday. Ridden a treat Jamie Kah, she had the gelding up on speed and despite a battle with Slydini, he got the head down to win. Saves his best for his home track and no issue up in trip.

4 Blackjack Bella (Bet Now: $16.00) could be the knockout at odds. David Vandyke trains this mare. Heavily backed early last time at Ipswich before easing out and not having much luck in the straight, not helped by an ordinary steer, behind Courageous Rock. Has run well here before and now she’s hard fit, I think 1800m may suit.

6 Kirini (Bet Now: $1.70) on top. Chris Waller trains this mare and since coming to Queensland, she has been very good. Bolted up two back over 2200m at Doomben before racing over the 2000m there a fortnight back where she tried hard but couldn’t reel in Singing, who bolted on the turn. Trained on the track and finds such a winnable race here.

3 Perilous Love (Bet Now: $8.50) is a Scott Morrisey trained mare who comes through the Singing race at Doomben a fortnight back and I thought her run to make up the ground she did was enormous. Got a mile out of her ground yet was only beaten just over three lengths. On her home track and will eat up the trip.

If you are looking for one at massive odds, I’d include 2 War Baby (Bet Now: $18.00). The form doesn’t read great but she gets out to a trip she likes after a couple of runs back from a let up, including last Saturday over the mile behind Aqua Vite. Gets in nicely after the claim for Boris Thornton and I think she can be included in multiples.

8 Oink (Bet Now: $3.10) is a quality four year old that resumes for the Kelly Schweida yard. This bloke hasn’t raced since mid August when being heavily backed and saluting to bolt up over the 1350m at Doomben. He is a bomb when produced fresh and I loved the way he went in a trial at Doomben last Tuesday. Looks ready to go.

6 Amanaat (Bet Now: $4.00) is a gelding that has been a revelation since joining the Ben Currie team. He has won five on the bounce, including two in town at Doomben over the 1110m and 1200m respectively. Plenty of merit in the 1200m win because he was up big time in weight and was suspect at the trip. There to be beaten but he knuckled down superbly. He can measure up here for sure.

5 Grunderzeit (Bet Now: $12.00) is a fascinating runner. Former Godolphin galloper now with Darby Syndications and Stuart Kendrick. He simply just hadn’t come back well enough to warrant staying in Sydney so the stable put him up for sale and here he is. On his best form, he’d beat these comfortably, so he’s a definite yard/market watch.

14 Plucky Girl (Bet Now: $2.30) is a Toby Edmonds trained mare mare in ripping form at the moment. Loved the drop back in depth when bolting up at the Ipswich midweeks under Jeff Lloyd, and that form has held up with One Golden Day winning impressively recently at Toowoomba. Up to the 1400m is a concern but she has quality.

5 Desmon’s Pride (Bet Now: $4.50) is a five year old gelding in a real purple patch for Les Kelly. On the seven day back up after racing here last Saturday over 1200m where he took on a pretty strong field and continued the picket fence with a big win from off the speed. Was five weeks between runs, so he should have upside.

12 Ruthless Agent (Bet Now: $10.00) will love the rise to 1400m and on the big track. He ran over 1200m at Doomben last time out and I thought his run was outstanding from the back, working home with real purpose after being hooked from the wide draw behind Gypsy Secret. If he is within striking range on the turn, he might be the one.
