22/7/2017 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Randwick, July Sprint day

Nine races will be run and won at Randwick on Saturday and while there are no feature races, the depth does look pretty good. The weather is fine, the track is soft (5) and the rail is out ten metres for the entire circuit.

4 Colosimo (Bet Now: $5.00) is a very interesting runner here for me. Chris Waller trained galloper making her NSW debut after formerly being trained up north by Steve O’Dea. She created a good impression in her first two runs, resulting in wins, before racing like a tired horse in a Stakes race. Now with Waller and her trials leading in have been very good.

1 Dracarys (Bet Now: $3.80) is a smart youngster that resumes for Team Snowden. This James Harron horse was a dominant debut winner on a heavy Warwick Farm surface before going to the Skyline where he was a bit outclassed. I think whatever he does here he will improve on, but he does have class/quality.

2 Assimilate (Bet Now: $4.60) is a China Horse Club youngster for Team Snowden who trialled up well on a couple of occasions prior to debuting at Kembla Grange in a strong maiden yet after doing a bit of work in the run, he surged hard late under Jennings to get the win win and make a good impression. He can measure up here for sure.

4 Suncraze (Bet Now: $2.30) is testing the patience of punters, but this does look his race. Looked disinterested in patches a fortnight back at Warwick Farm and he looked set to run a howler but he picked up and savaged the line late nearer the inside to just miss out on the win. Clearly looking for 1400m, which he gets here, and the blinkers go on to sharpen him up.

7 Salesman (Bet Now: $8.50) is a talented three year old gelding who is showing good promise and deserves a crack at a Highway. She had good support in the Warwick Farm Highway a fortnight back and tried hard but had to settle for a close up third. Maps superbly here and McEvoy takes over.

8 D’Beak (Bet Now: $26.00) is a miler/middle distance type that resumes for the Joseph/Jones yard at Canberra. This horse had a really good prep last time in, racing quite consistently and rarely was far away. Might need a run or two to find his best, but first up in town tells me he could be forward enough to go well fresh.

Sticking solid with 7 Clipper (Bet Now: $2.80). Matty Dale trained filly who won a couple of Randwick Highways in impressive fashion before racing three weeks back where she looked a bit lost first time at Caulfield but was still good in running third. Comes back to Sydney, and Randwick, and finds a lovely race to bounce back.

1 Memes (Bet Now: $4.20) is an above average filly for Jason Coyle who was once known as a speed demon who would be weak at the finish but she has turned the corner this time in, winning four of six. Last start came three weeks back over 1200m at Rosehill where she led and tried hard but was nabbed late by Magic Alibi. Unbeaten at Randwick, maps well and back to 1100m is perfect.

Back to 1100m should also suit 5 Upscale (Bet Now: $6.50). This Kris Lees trained mare was a bit disappointing in the Magic Alibi race at Rosehill three weeks ago where she looked to travel well throughout but couldn’t let down well enough and produced a weak finish. On her best form, she’s right in this.

3 Star Crossed (Bet Now: $4.40) for me in a really good sprint race with plenty of depth. Phillip Atkins trained galloper who is two for two this campaign. Resumed at Wyong and got the job done there before going to Canterbury where he led all the way after being heavily backed. Has always promised to be a Saturday horse and he gets his chance here.

5 Super Too (Bet Now: $2.50) is a quality filly that resumes for the Marc Conners yard. She has always been touted as a Stakes grade horse and this campaign could well see that happen given how well she trialled last week at Warwick Farm when winning by 12 lengths and running sizzling time, but keep in mind a 50kg rider was steering, so it was a touch flattering. Looks wound up to run a beauty, but I wouldn’t take anything silly short.

4 Dorf Star (Bet Now: $10.00) could be a knockout chance here at odds. Clarry Conners trained gelding who has had two runs back from a break, both coming at Canterbury and both times he hasn’t been far away. He is generally regarded as a midweek horse, but he looks to map okay here and should be cherry ripe fitness wise.

2 Spending To Win (Bet Now: $2.00) was heavily backed when resuming at Warwick Farm a fortnight back and though the plunge didn’t come off, the effort was still very good. He sat wide no cover throughout yet still loomed to win the race, but the effort and condition just told. Should come on from that and is the one to beat.

7 Parlay Vous (Bet Now: $6.50) was a surprise drifter in betting when resuming the Warwick farm race mentioned above won by Kings Of Leon. He was wide, but with cover and looked to travel well throughout. He presented as if he was going to win and just lacked the turn of foot. He is another with room to improve and rates highly.

10 Chatuchak (Bet Now: $9.00) is a handy youngster for Godolphin and James Cummings who resumed at Canterbury against the older horses and had no luck at all really behind Cudabeen in a messy race. She has always shown good promise so give her another look here at odds in the small field.

I reckon 9 Loophole (Bet Now: $19.00) could be a sharp improver here at odds. This horse hasn’t done much in his first two runs back from a break but that is what he usually does. He does go well third up in the right race and this does seem the right race, plus his trial here last Monday was strong to the eye.

1 Sound Proposition (Bet Now: $3.80) does look the obvious threat. First run for Kris Lees was over the mile here and he absolutely bolted in under Rachel King, spanking his rivals and running okay time for the day. Liapari came out and franked that form and they meet at level weights despite a 2.3L margin.

7 Auvray (Bet Now: $23.00) is another who is at good odds and could be a sneaky chance here. He comes through the Sound Proposition race mentioned above where he really had no hope the way the race was run. Gets back onto a firmer surface here, gets a nice weight pull on the horse mentioned above and draws to sit closer in the run.

1 That’s A Good (Bet Now: $5.00) Idea gets the nod for me here in a good sprint race. Quality sprinter that resumes for Team Snowden off the back of a one run Autumn prep, which saw him nailed late by Felines in the XXXX Rush at Hawkesbury. Trialled twice leading up to this, both in good time so he has been given a good grounding for a first up assault.

2 Felines (Bet Now: $4.20) is a gutsy mare for the Kris Lees camp who tries hard and is never really far away. She beat That’s A Good Idea in that race mentioned above and then went on to race quite well at Scone and then here in the June Stakes. Thought she trialled up really well at Newcastle on Tuesday and appears forward enough to go well here.

5 Kudero (Bet Now: $6.00)  is on the quick back up for Clarry Conners after racing last Saturday at Rosehill where he was parked behind the speed and just couldn’t let down with the big weight behind impressive winner Washington Heights. Last three times he has backed up seven days later has seen win and place.

6 Bolero King (Bet Now: $2.70) is a lightly raced gelding who is showing good promise for the Clarry Conners yard. Knuckled down strongly to win fresh at Gosford before going to Canterbury where he led all the way bar the last 50m when nabbed late by Torpenhow. This is a tough Saturday race but he has the upside, he’s tough and can be ridden several ways.

By virtue of the fact there is no depth, 8 Kings Of Leon (Bet Now: $2.60) is next best but I couldn’t touch him at his current quote. Takes on the older horses here off the back of a sharp win against his own age at Warwick Farm a fortnight back, aided by a beaut steer from Tye Angland. Bowman on, and the wide gate won’t be an issue I don’t think.

3 Tailevent (Bet Now: $13.00) comes through the Irish Constabulary race at Doomben a fortnight back and I thought his effort was very good. He was disinterested early on in the contest and seemingly was struggling but he picked up the bit and savaged the line late to just miss out on the win. With a better beginning, he can go close.

6 Pelethronius (Bet Now: $6.50) has been a real find for the Pfieffer camp in recent times, winning three of three this time in. The latest came over 1400m here on June 24 and while he didn’t beat much on paper, he was dominant and charged to the line, running sharper time than the better horses that afternoon. Trialled last week to tune him up and he looked very good to the eye.

13 Francesco (Bet Now: $10.00) comes through the Warwick Farm race mentioned above won by Petrossian and his effort was sound. He was parked near the speed from the wide gate and tried hard but was just no match late, lacking the turn of foot, so the rise to 1500m third up should suit and is a live threat at odds.

9 Muraqaba (Bet Now: $16.00) interests me here. Talented gelding that resumes for Team Cummings and he can be hot and cold at times, but when he is right on, he’s certainly up to this level. Two trials leading in, the latest coming earlier this month at Rosehill when seemingly doing nothing behind Fast Ali but I thought he went alright. Definite market watch.
