Eagle Farm looked to play pretty well last weekend, so here’s hoping that remains the case once again this Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out three metres for the entire circuit.

Race One (13:42) : Driver Recruitment Handicap 2212m:
Back Me: Going with 1 Perplexity (Bet Now: $4.60). Most of these come through the 2000m race at Doomben a fortnight back and I thought this bloke was the best to come out of it. He got a fair way back in the run and he doesn’t really have a turn of foot, but he kept on and finished with purpose to run third to La Spiaggia. He has the most upside and 2200m at Eagle Farm looks ideal.
Big Danger: 3 La Spiaggia (Bet Now: $4.40) won that race and he was given an absolute peach from Robbie Fradd, controlling the race from the front and giving nothing else a look in, then showed good courage late when strongly challenged. 2200m is a concern, and I don’t think he can win by leading, so cover may be best. If that eventuates, he is the obvious threat.
Roughie: 5 My Diamantine (Bet Now: $4.80) ran fourth to La Spiaggia and gee I thought his effort was very good in defeat given the tempo wasn’t really his go yet he still closed off better than just about anything else. He will love getting back to Eagle Farm and he clearly rates as a definite contender.
Race Two (14:17) : Austrans Handicap 1000m:
Back Me: 9 Setoka (Bet Now: $5.00) is a Sebring filly on debut for the Steve O’Dea yard who comes here after triallin at Deagon on Tuesday where she showed gate speed to be up on the pace and ending up finishing fourth without being extended. Stable are very good with first starters and this filly is a likely type.
Big Danger: 2 Royal Myth (Bet Now: $3.20) debuted over 1050m at Doomben three weeks back where she got back in the ruck but I really liked the way she finished off when running third to Real Princess. Draws a touch awkwardly here, but she has the race experience on her side.
Roughie: 12 Zinzi (Bet Now: $21.00) is a Snitzel filly on debut for the Heinrich/Rodgers stable who comes here after trialling on her home track at the Gold Coast on October 6 when running third and looking to go about her business quite nicely. Draws awkwardly but you always have to respect the stable.
Race Three (14:52) : DPMA Handicap 1000m:
Back Me: Leaning towards 1 Hard Stride (Bet Now: $6.00) in a really competitive event. He was well backed to win first up before racing three weeks ago where he had market support late and looked home but was nabbed late by Sporting Page after copping a bit of heat in front. The same thing will happen here, but I am relying on the fact he may be better suited at a bigger track like Eagle Farm.
Big Danger: 6 Prompt Return (Bet Now: $3.30) has been given a four week let up since racing over 1200m here where I think he was just a touch out of his depth behind Londehero in a race that had real depth unlike this race. Back to 1000m is a big tick for him as I think he’ll be allowed to let run and whatever beats him will.
Roughie: This is the sort of race where 4 Kudero (Bet Now: $15.00) could fire in. He hasn’t raced for three weeks since finishing down the track over 1350m at Doomben behind Jopa. 1000m looks his preferred distance given he can sit back off a hot tempo and ambush late, and I think that is the scenario he will get here. He can definitely improve.
Race Four (15:27) : Kartaway Handicap (90) 1600m:
Back Me: 3 Sea Red (Bet Now: $4.80) was enormous in defeat two back at Doomben behind Jopa after giving the speed 12+ lengths on the turn to be only beaten 0.6L. She then backed up a week later over the mile there and sat closer in the run which ultimately saw her record a very good win over Sydney galloper Testashadow. That’s the right form leading in. She just needs to bring it to Eagle Farm where she is yet to place in six outings.
Big Danger: 9 Kaiser Franz (Bet Now: $14.00) resumed with a very good fourth here behind Monsieur Gustave before going to that Sea Red race at Doomben where he again got back in the ruck and couldn’t quicken, but his last 150m was tidy. He’ll love getting back onto the bigger track and he has upside.
Roughie: Another one with upside is 1 Transporter (Bet Now: $21.00), who attempted to lead all the way in the Sea Red race and for a horse having his second run since July 2014, gee he showed tremendous fight in the straight to only go down three lengths. Leading isn’t his go, so if he can get cover here, I think there is no reason to suggest he can’t go well.
Race Five (16:03) : Nugrow Plate (Class 3) 1200m:
Back Me: 7 Cool Sequence (Bet Now: $10.00) led all the way over 1200m at the Sunny Coast last time out, which probably isn’t his go but he showed pretty good fight in the straight when challenged and he was ridden to suit the bias towards leaders. He is much better when ridden with cover and having the last say, and I think that will eventuate here.
Big Danger: 2 Better Land (Bet Now: $3.40) is one of the best milk drinkers in Australian racing which doesn’t justify his breeding, which is the best of just about any horse in Australia given his mum is the high class filly that is Amelia’s Dream. Formerly with Peter Moody, then Darren Weir but is now with Toby Edmonds and his trials leading in have been very good. If he brings his best, he’ll take some beating.
Roughie: 3 Consorting (Bet Now: $26.00) ran over 1110m at Doomben a fortnight back where he got back to near last in the run and closed off pretty well late without threatening when seventh to Powerful Saga, beaten four lengths. Back to Eagle Farm will suit, and he can finish hard if the speed is on, which it should be.
Race Six (16:43) : Superior Pak Handicap 1200m:
Back Me: 4 Beaudacious (Bet Now: $19.00) comes to town for Kelly Schweida after a couple of impressive wins at the Gold Coast, the latest coming over 1400m a fortnight back. Has to step up to city grade, but I’m confident she can handle it.
Big Danger: 1 Spot The Diff (Bet Now: $26.00) is a classy filly that resumes for the John Zielke yard. She contested some really good races last time in, much stronger than what she faces here. Comes here with no trials but she has class and can sprint well fresh.
Roughie: 9 Tversky (Bet Now: $15.00) debuted over 1000m on his home track at the Sunny Coast a tick under three weeks back where he sat off speed in the run before presenting wide and letting down hard to beat a horse who was placed at Group l level. Bring that here and he’ll take a stack of beating.
Race Seven (17:28) : Toxfree Handicap (75) 1200m:
Back Me: 2 Hanwritten (Bet Now: $3.10) was a dominant Highway winner at Randwick two back before going to Doomben where he led all the way and was impressive after copping pressure in front. Eagle Farm will suit I suspect and he can take some beating.
Big Danger: 15 Assertory (Bet Now: $8.50) ran over 1200m at Doomben last start where she got a long way back in the run and finished hard late to run a close up third to the above average Hanwritten. That’s the right form and she should have upside.
Roughie: 6 Tansy (Bet Now: $17.00) is a former Victorian that had his first run for the Mayfield-Smith yard at the Sunny Coast over 1000m where he chased hard all the way to run second to Charge Missile. Should improve up to 1200m and is a threat.
Race Eight (18:10) : Suez Handicap (Class 6) 1400m:
Back Me: 1 Pera Pera (Bet Now: $5.50) was enormous in defeat at Doomben last time out given he was wide no cover on a hot speed yet still kept fighting to run third to Pepperano. Bigger track, hard fit, and with better luck, he will take some beating.
Big Danger: 3 Privlaka (Bet Now: $3.50) was an impressive first up winner over 1000m here before going to that Pepperano race where he had a nice sit just off the speed and fought on pretty well in the straight when running fourth, beaten a couple of lengths. Draws to get good cover and should be at peak fitness.
Roughie: 12 Legendary Luke (Bet Now: $9.00) comes back to 1400m after racing at the Doomben mile last start where he bolted to the front and looked the winner, but he just couldn’t quite run the trip out and had to settle for third to Brazen Moss. If he has a bunny to chase, he will be more effective.
