22/1/2022 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Moonee Valley

Afternoon racing returns to Moonee Valley this Saturday where nine races have been set down. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

5 Duchy Of Savoy (Bet Now: $2.50) looks the one they have to beat. Quality filly for Team Hawkes that looked a good thing when resuming in a Sandown maiden and indeed she was a good thing. Sat on speed from the outset and was never really troubled under Jye McNeil. She can win this then perhaps head towards blacktype races.

1 Unflinching (Bet Now: $1.85) is an unbeaten colt for Team Freedman that resumes. He had a two run prep in the Spring to start his career and won them both in pretty sharp style, though I will say the form around him is looking suspect. Sharp jumpout to get ready and is proven here. Watch the market.

3 Rock Artist (Bet Now: $13.00) is a proven performer at the Valley as well and does have a touch of quality about him when right. Just found them a bit sharp last time at Flemington behind Clemenceau. Back to The Valley 1000m, I think he will lead and give plenty of cheek in front.

2 Counttheheadlights (Bet Now: $4.20) on top in an even juvenile race. This guy has had three jumpouts to get ready for start one, winning the latest at Cranbourne in good style and in solid time. Worked here on Tuesday morning and looked to move well around the track so I am leaning his way.

1 Bill Boulder (Bet Now: $26.00) is bred to be a good one so will be interesting to see how he goes. He hasn’t set the world on fire in a couple of jumpouts but thought he worked well alongside Counttheheadlights here on Tuesday morning. Market will be the guide as to whether he’s ready or not.

4 Kokonotsu (Bet Now: $26.00) has a tricky draw to overcome but I think he has talent. He debuts for Wendy Kelly and worked alone here on Tuesday. He half crabbed around the turn but that can be expected for an unraced juvenile. The draw likely means he gets dragged back but his trial/jumpout work has been encouraging.

5 Daqiansweet Junior (Bet Now: $2.45) looks to be getting better with racing for Phillip Stokes. Has won three on the bounce, winning over 2040m here two back before a narrow but strong win at Caulfield over 2000m. The way he is racing, the way he fights, 2500m should be fine, and right down in the weights, is hard to beat.

1 Good Idea (Bet Now: $3.90) is three weeks between runs for Phillip Stokes since contesting the Bagot where he was near the speed throughout and with the 60kg impost, fought on quite bravely when fourth to Tigertiger, giving at least 4kg to the placegetters. Been up a while but holding his form nicely and has class.

2 In A Twinkling (Bet Now: $7.00) is the interesting runner. Lindsey Smith trained gelding that was close up in the Lord Stakes before stepping up to 2000m two weeks back at Caulfield when on speed and in a stop/start race shape, he didn’t seem to appreciate it behind Ho Ho Khan. 2500m looks ideal and his best is certainly good enough.

7 Wellsford (Bet Now: $7.50) is a proven 2400m+ performer and is proven at the track. Has been kept on ice, having not raced since December 11 when a solid third to Seawhatyouthink. Stable can get them ready despite the break between runs and he seems more reliable than most here.

2 Salto Angel (Bet Now: $5.00) isn’t the most reliable horse going around but is rarely too far away. Finally broke the maiden two back at Werribee before going to Caulfield where she chased and was game in defeat but clearly no match for Brilliant Venture. She does seem quite one paced so 2500m here I like.

8 Eaton (Bet Now: $21.00) tends to race well at The Valley and if the track is playing on speed, he comes into contention as a knockout chance. Just did a bit too much work at Caulfield last time but battled on pretty well I thought behind Brilliant Venture. He’ll be on speed and giving a sight.

They’ve tried to test 5 Winsum (Bet Now: $3.00) as a 1200m/1400m horse but his record states that 1000m is his go in life, as seen when an impressive first up winner at Pakenham, landing some big bets in the process. The question being, can he now go on with it? If so, he’ll be winning here.

2 Yulong Command (Bet Now: $2.20) is four weeks between runs for Team Freedman since racing down the straight at Flemington when on speed and tried his guts out but couldn’t withstand the brilliant finale of Scorched Earth, who has won again since. That form reads well for this.

3 Sam’s Image (Bet Now: $6.00) only knows one way to run so The Valley 1000m looks an ideal set up. He was very game at Caulfield last time behind Scorched Earth after sitting on a hot speed. He was entitled to knock right up but kept chipping away and was only beaten 1.3L. Definite winning chance.

11 Sharp Response (Bet Now: $3.20) finds a very winnable 70 IMO. Three year old that takes on the older horses but his resumption was a beauty, which came down the straight at The Valley when a closing second to Clemenceau. Fitter and up to 1200m, I think he’ll take holding out with upside to come.

1 Deep Dive (Bet Now: $9.00) is third up here from a break and should just about be at peak fitness. Ran at Caulfield on Boxing Day when near the speed throughout and battled on pretty well when fourth to In The Boat. He’s got more upside than most and should be hard fit now.

10 Invincible Jet (Bet Now: $7.50) has had two runs at the Caulfield 1100m and I think third up at 1200m, he can be dangerous. Both of those runs have seen him finish behind In The Boat and has been far from disgraced in both runs. He tends to race best when ridden with a sit so if that can eventuate here, he’s in with a shout.

Fitter and up to 1500m are two big ticks for 4 Fundraiser (Bet Now: $3.00). Resumed down the straight at Flemington over 1200m where he looked like he would need the run but his finale was very good from near last behind Pioneer River. Yet to run a bad race second up and is ideally suited up in trip.

You’d think 12 Unanimous (Bet Now: $3.40) is getting closer to the end of the prep than the start, but he seems to be holding his form quite nicely. Ran over the mile at Flemington three weeks ago and was there to win when presented in the straight but perhaps 1600m just found him out when second to Gracias Amigo. Back to 1500m I like. Just depends where he gets to from the gate.

10 Galactic Fury (Bet Now: $7.00) is 0/3 at the track but comes here in winning form and is right down in the weights after the claim. Backed with confidence over 1500m at Mornington and knuckled down strongly late from off the speed to score, beating Sly Corner, which isn’t a difficult task, but he’s progressive and heading in the right direction.

8 Pioneer River (Bet Now: $7.00) is becoming one of the better straight track horses going around but he has a liking for The Valley and hard to knock the way he’s racing. Last two starts have resulted in impressive wins over the straight six, the latest being a few weeks ago. Hard to beat I’d suggest.

11 In The Boat (Bet Now: $2.25) is a beauty for Lindsey Smith. Puts himself on speed and gives his all, with that set up seeing him win his past three, the latest two at Caulfield over 1100m. Hard to knock a horse with a record like his. Keep waiting for the end of prep run, but he’s just so genuine.

9 Broadwayandfourth (Bet Now: $10.00) looks to be back on track. Her two Autumn runs were plain but her resumption at Pakenham was a beauty. Loved the way she found the line in a very strong return when third to Winsum. Then went to Flemington and was good late behind Pioneer River. Fitter and up to 1200m, she’ll take beating.

Tricky race to close the meeting out but I do think 2 Mariamia (Bet Now: $4.40) is a safe option. Has been given a mini let up, having not raced since December 15 at Sandown over 1400m where she just found the seven furlongs a bridge too far when a game fourth. Fresh legs and back to a track/distance she was explosive at recently, she’s hard to beat.

11 Patrika Gold (Bet Now: $4.40) looks to be talented, but she’s very short I feel. Yes, a sharp debut winner at Terang when leading throughout, but on speed/fence was the spot to be. To counter that, she was smashed in betting, as if she was expected to spank them and she did. Keen to see how she goes.

1 Galgani (Bet Now: $10.00) is resuming here for Nikki Burke and I think can be dangerous here fresh. She was one of the real finds of the Winter, going from a provincial class mare to a proven Saturday metro performer and ran well behind some quality gallopers. 1200m is on the short side, but I think brings a touch of class.

NEXT BEST: Race One Number 5 Duchy Of Savoy

LONG SHOT: Race Four Number 7 Wellsford
