Sydney racing this Saturday returns to Rosehill for a strong nine race card. The weather is fine, the track is good (3) and the rail is out six metres for the entire circuit.

Race One (11:25) : Les Carlyon AC Plate 1200m:
Back Me: 1 Legerity (Best Odds: $2.80) ran over 1100m here a fortnight back and sat on speed most of the way for a narrow win. Draws to lead here and the extra 100m will be no issue, so he has to rate as a serious winning chance.
Big Danger: 8 Chipanda (Best Odds: $3.00) is probably the best horse in the race. She last raced in the Widden back in the Autumn when sticking on well behind Honesty Prevails. She has the potential to head North for blacktype and the trials have been sharp.
Roughie: 5 Omiya (Best Odds: $8.50) trialled well on several occasions prior to debuting at Warwick Farm where he ran a solid second to Faith’s Encore. Stable is absolutely flying and this isn’t the strongest two year old race with the scratchings.

Race Two (12:00) : Leilani And Luskin Star Handicap (89) 2000m:
Back Me: 6 Hipparchus (Best Odds: $1.90) just picks himself and the $2.50 opening price looks a gift. I really liked the way he attacked the line when winning the Stayers Final at Hawkesbury, with Avdulla lifting the import over the line. He remains on and the form out of that race held up last Saturday at Scone.
Big Danger: 4 Dance Of Heroes (Best Odds: $3.80) comes through the Wagga Cup (2000m) where he made up nice ground from a midfield spot to run a game fifth to Messene. Third up now, and he is a horse with plenty of upside, plus he draws the inside gate.
Roughie: 7 Secateur (Best Odds: $5.00) also contested the Wagga Cup and he was afforded every chance in the run but just didn’t have the turn of foot to match it with a few others. He is ready to do something here, and if there is to be a knockout, it will come courtesy of this bloke.

Race Three (12:35) : Merman And Sydeston Handicap (78) 1100m:
Back Me: 3 Pioneering (Best Odds: $4.20) could not have been ridden any better by Avdulla when resuming here two weeks ago and looked home, but was just gunned down late by the unbeaten and in form Daysee Doom. Up to 1400m second up is no issue, she will be strongly and has plenty of upside.
Big Danger: 6 Noble Joey (Best Odds: $5.00) was given a 12/10 from McDonald to win the Highway race on the stand alone program at Hawkesbury, leading throughout to win comfortably. Looks the leader again, fitter and he gets the services of Rory Hutchings.
Roughie: 7 Wide Acclaim (Best Odds: $14.00) is a very interesting runner. He resumes for Gary Portelli despite no trials leading in, which is very rare for the stable. His form from last prep reads very well and only needs luck from the gate to be a contender.

Race Four (13:10) : TAB Highway Handicap (Class 3) 1500m:
Back Me: 3 Ziganui (Best Odds: $5.50) was a very strong winner two back at Canberra before racing during the Wagga Carnival where he ran a game close up third to Kingia. Looks extremely well weighted after the claim, draws well and is hard fit.
Big Danger: 1 Erika (Best Odds: $5.50) looked in a hopeless spot last time out at Wagga but he kept finding under riding from Jay Ford to get the job done narrowly but impressively. Draws wide, which is the query, but she is two from two and has to be respected.
Roughie: 13 Marvel (Best Odds: $101.00) ran at the midweeks last Wednesday on a heavy 10 and closed off nicely late from near last to run fourth to Googoi Pi. That was over the mile, so he is ready for a hard 1500m in town, and is only carrying 52kg after the claim for Taylor Marshall.

Race Five (13:45) : Pat Hyland Handicap (75) 1400m:
Back Me : I am a huge fan of 5 Tsaritsa (Best Odds: $2.30), and she is the one threat for me after such an effortless win first up at Canterbury, aided by a gun ride from apprentice Lester Grace. There is enormous upside with her, she has a lethal turn of foot and she was nominated for the Scone Guineas on Saturday, so the stable do have an opinion of her.
Big Danger: 2 Serious Satire (Best Odds: $13.00) is a Group winner who makes her Australian debut after a disappointing effort three weeks back at Te Rapa behind ‘Sex on legs’ aka Xtravagent. She is a class filly and if she looks the part in the mounting yard, I’ll definitely have something on her.
Roughie: 1 Metallic Crown (Best Odds: $26.00) is such an interesting runner. Talented gelding that resumes for Chris Waller after a couple of ordinary runs in the early part of the Autumn. Spelled and has trialled twice leading in. Chris Waller does have a habit of tipping horses out after poor runs and come back in super form, so for mine, he is the watch horse.

Race Six (14:25) : Noel McGrowdie Handicap (78) 1100m:
Back Me: 9 I Can Rock (Best Odds: $3.30) just took a little too long to wind up last start at Warwick Farm yet only missed out on picking up Royal Tudor in the last stride. He runs well at Rosehill, hard fit, and this isn’t the strongest race going around.
Big Danger: 4 Awasita (Best Odds: $4.40) is a handy mare that resumes for Kris Lees. She is a bit of a bridesmaid, but she always runs well and a recent trial behind Star Shaft was encouraging, and that horse ran a beauty at Scone last Saturday to frank the form.
Roughie: 5 Skip Course (Best Odds: $2.70) was disappointing first up at Doomben behind Wicked Intent before going to the Gold Rush (1100m) at Hawkesbury where he closed off well late behind Furnaces. Third up, so he should be ready to show his best.

Race Seven: Neville Begg Handicap (93) 1400m:
Back Me (15:05) : 5 Berry Delicious (Best Odds: $10.00) looks a great each-way bet here at a price. This mare, like most here, comes through the Godolphin Crown (1300m) at Hawkesbury and I thought she was the real eye catcher from the back in a race dominated by those near the speed. Genuine tempo will suit her perfectly and third up, she should be ready to fire.
Big Danger: 10 Rockalicious (Best Odds: $2.40) ran over 1350m here a fortnight back and loomed to win the race but she couldn’t quite peg back the margin on her tough stablemate Religify. Will get a near identical run here from the gate and should take some holding out.
Roughie: 2 Loophole (Best Odds: $51.00) is an interesting runner. He is a stayer that resumes for Chris Waller after a pretty solid Summer/Autumn prep. Ran in a fast 900m trial at Rosehill, so on that basis, he’ll be somewhat forward and does like racing on his home track.

Race Eight (15:45) : Cecil Godby Handicap (78) 1400m:
Back Me: 11 Harlem Lady (Best Odds: $4.20) carries the same colours as Winx and she produced a similar finish to her stablemate with a barnstorming win at Warwick Farm. The Zabeels take time to mature, and I think she is slowly finding her best now, which is good enough to beat these.
Big Danger: 5 Distraught (Best Odds: $8.00) ran in a handy benchmark race at Beaumont-Newcastle where she sat on speed and toughed it out strongly to win narrowly but impressively. Draws wide, but if she can overcome that, she is a leading contender.
Roughie: 12 Pindan Pearl (Best Odds: $13.00) is making her debut for Tim Martin after formerly being with Peter Moody. Her form when racing in Victoria was pretty good, albeit over slightly further. Whatever she does here she will improve on, but she can sprint well fresh for the new stable.

Race Nine (16:25) : Joe Brown MBE Handicap (82) 1200m:
Back Me: Leaning towards 4 She’s Miss Devine (Best Odds: $5.00). Was such an impressive winner two back at Sandown before going to Caulfield where she had no luck at all behind Kayjay’s Joy. Back in Sydney and bolted up in a trial at here reently, winning by nearly seven and running slick time. Looks a definite threat.
Big Danger: 1 Caped Crusader (Best Odds: $8.00) is a tough, tough campaigner for Gai Waterhouse who resumed over this track/distance a fortnight back and stuck to the task quite gamely when running a close up third to Painte. Should take good improvement off that, will be on speed and is a very hard horse to get past.
Roughie: 12 Fiftyshadesofgrey (Best Odds: $21.00) was ok in her opening two runs this prep, then looked a little unlucky here a fortnight back behind Painte when never really clear despite appearing to have something to offer. If the speed is on, which it should, she can certainly unleash.
