Randwick is where public holiday racing in Sydney will take place this Monday for Tatts Club Cup Day. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

Race One (13:20) : Happy New Year Plate 1400m:

Back Me: 5 Royal Navy (Bet Now: $3.80) for me in a race not to get too excited about. He kicked off her career with four runs during the Winter/Spring, highlighted by a close up third at Canterbury behind Sezanne. Worked home okay in a recent trial here behind Precautions and he did look as if he’ll appreciate racing at 1400m fresh. Not much depth here, so I think he can get away with it.
Big Danger: 4 Nepean (Bet Now: $2.40) debuted over 1200m at Canterbury on a heavy track where he settled a touch worse than midfield in the run before Bowman asked for the effort before the turn. There was no immediate response but he stuck on well when a close up third to Thaad. Should take good improvement off that and looks well placed second up at 1400m.
Long Shot: 6 Sugar Dance (Bet Now: $8.00) is a son of Hinchinbrook that debuts for the Waller yard. He looked to trial well in August before being tipped out and he has had two trials this time in to gear him up for start one. He looked to move nicely in a Rosehill trial placing last week and he gets the services of in form rider Blake Shinn.

Race Two (13:55) : #theraces Handicap (67) 1800m:

Back Me: Keen here on 4 Harper’s Choice (Bet Now: $3.50). He found the 1200m too short fresh at Canterbury but still finished off with purpose before stepping up to the 1500m at Kembla Grange where he looked to be under pressure before the turn but once balanced up, his class came to the fore and he drew right away. No issues with the 1800m, has upside, McEvoy steers…looks the one.
Big Danger: 2 Northwest Passage (Bet Now: $3.40) bolted up on debut at Hawkesbury before racing over 1900m at Canterbury where he was the first horse off the bit after leading and looked gone, but Hyeronimus just kept at him and the horse just kept finding and kicked hard enough to win. Not sure he can do that here given there is more depth, but he is hard fit and has the Tulloch Lodge bone and muscle.
Long Shot: 7 Lord Kingsley (Bet Now: $10.00) is potentially the best horse in the race but he has a few loose screws upstairs. He ran behind Northwest Passage in that Canterbury where he had a nice sit off the speed and was looking for a run at the top of the straight before eventually getting clear and finishing off strongly to run third. The big key here is the blinkers on for the first time and back onto a bigger track.

Race Three (14:30) : TAB Plate 1400m:

Back Me: 8 Peaceful Sea (Bet Now: $3.50) is a bit of a money muncher but she finds a very good race for her to break the maiden tag. She had no luck first up at Canterbury behind subsequent winner Improvement before going to Warwick Farm where she was perhaps ridden a touch too close on speed when fourth to Krusty, who ran well on Wednesday. Draws wide, so I am hoping Schofield drags back for cover and ambushes, because that does seem her ideal racing pattern.
Big Danger: 3 Cassdee (Bet Now: $5.00) is a well bred filly that debuts for the Waterhouse/Bott yard. She trialled here on December 13 and though the win was narrow, I thought she looked quite impressive and there was room for scope to my eye. Stable has a few engaged here, so market will be the guide.
Long Shot: 2 Birdsong (Bet Now: $6.00) was far from disgraced in two runs at Beaumont-Newcastle before being tipped out. Trialled well on a couple of occasions prior to resuming at Canterbury where she didn’t have the best of luck in the run when appearing to have plenty to offer, eventually getting clear late when fourth to Thaad. Should take enormous benefit from that outing and Avdulla remains on.

Race Four (15:05) : Tab.com.au Handicap (78) 1600m:

Back Me: 3 Queen Of Wands (Bet Now: $4.20) looks real value here in a competitive race. She resumed here on Villiers Day and just forget she went around given she was wide no cover for the trip and didn’t let down on the heavy track behind Kinsachi, plus she pulled up with lacerations. She can be a sharp improver here for sure.
Big Danger: 2 Francesco (Bet Now: $4.40) bounced back to winning form in an Evening Star at Canterbury on a bog track when ridden an absolute treat by Shinn. The worry with him is that he tends to save his best for rain affected ground, so the forecasted showers for Sunday will be the guide to his winning clams. A threat if there is juice.
Long Shot: 5 Quick Defence (Bet Now: $9.50) could be the sharp improved here at a price. He ran over 1400 here last time out where he got back to near last in the run and just couldn’t get involved in the race won by Sabino Speed, and that form looks okay. McEvoy is steering and I would like to see this horse ridden aggressively, because being ridden quiet just isn’t working.

Race Five (15:40) : Tatts Club Cup 2400m:

Back Me: 1 Destiny’s Kiss (Bet Now: $4.40) looks the one to beat here. He was an impressive winner of the Christmas Cup (2400m) here before racing in the Summer Cup (2000m) where he got back in a slowly run affair and just couldn’t get involved when sixth to Red Excitement. He will relish the step back up to 2400m and rates highly for me here.
Big Danger: 4 Iggi Pop (Bet Now: $2.25) hasn’t won for a long time but is clearly knocking on the door to break the run of outs. He ran in the Christmas Cup where he had every chance in the run and did look the winner halfway down the straight but he couldn’t hold out Destinys Kiss. He has the fresh legs and is a definite winning chance.
Long Shot: 3 Beyond Thankful (Bet Now: $4.60) also comes through the Summer Cup where he looked to be going well in the run but like Destinys Kiss, the tempo was too slow and being a one paced stayer, he couldn’t quicken well enough. Suited up to 2400m and looks one of the hardest to beat.

Race Six (16:20) : Tatts Club Handicap (72) 1400m:

Back Me: 1 Dark Eyes (Bet Now: $3.80) for me here. Scratched from Canterbury on Saturday to be saved for this easier assignment and with the scratchings from this field, he does look well placed. He resumed over 1100m at Canterbury and just looked a bit sluggish on the wet track when finishing fifth of six to Deploy, who of course out and bolted up on Saturday. Form has held up, he’s fitter, on his home track and looks as if he’ll get over from the gate and get a very comfortable lead.
Big Danger: 7 Sovereignaire (Bet Now: $7.50) is a sparingly raced six year old that is first up here for Kris Lees. He only had the one run during the Winter, which came at Scone where he savaged the line from near last to grab the well performed stablemate Beretta. Trial leading in was very good and looks well placed.
Long Shot: 8 Red Dubawi (Bet Now: $10.00) had some speaking at a longer quote when resuming at Warwick Farm last Wednesday where he got a fair way back in the run before trucking up out wide on the turn and finishing off strongly when second to Bratislava. That field did look to have some depth to it, so I think he can measure up here.

Race Seven (17:00) : Schweppes Handicap (68) 1600m:

Back Me: 11 Circle Game (Bet Now: $9.00) was so impressive when resuming and winning on her home track at Canberra before going to a Highway at Rosehill last Saturday where she got a tad too far back in the run but finished it off strongly to run fourth. She is quite capable of bouncing back hard third up and the 1600 at Randwick is a big tick.
Big Danger: 6 Little Miss Brown (Bet Now: $5.50) was given a 12/10 steer from Avdulla to win over the Warwick Farm mile last time out where she was near last in the run and it needed a peach to win and Avdulla produced that. I think she will be suited at the Randwick mile and being fourth up, she should have a touch of upside.
Long Shot: 3 Bannatyne (Bet Now: $15.00) is the big improver here at hopefully a price. She comes through the Little Miss Brown race mentioned above where she sat just near the speed and fought on well. She now tumbles 5kg in weights after the claim and onto a bigger track, she can sharply bounce back here.

Race Eight (17:40) : TAB Rewards Handicap (67) 1100m:

Back Me: 11 Parlay Vous (Bet Now: $4.20) is a very interesting runner here. Jimmy Choux gelding that resumes for Joe Pride after just one career outing in the Autumn at Gosford when sitting off speed and chasing hard to grab victory. He has had two solid trials leading in, both behind well performed stablemates in I Am Zelady and Ball of Muscle. Market watch.
Big Danger: 7 Professor Marx (Bet Now: $3.90) is a handy galloper trained by Rod Northam who comes here off the back of a strong first up win at Taree where he was well backed with the corporates and the TAB and aided by a lovely steer from McDougall, he was able to get the job done. Has run well in town, same jock steers and is well weighted with 53kg.
Long Shot: 15 Pallino (Bet Now: $61.00) could be one to include at odds. He lumped 59.5kg last time out at Kembla Grange where he sat near the speed most of the way and was far from disgraced in defeat when running a close up fifth to proven city performer Duty Dude. He gets right down to 51kg after the claim, maps okay from the gate and I can definitely see him running a cheeky race.
