Racing continues at Randwick this Saturday with a strong nine race card, highlighted by the Carrington Stakes (1400m). The weather is fine, the track is soft (5) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

Race One (12:40) : Australian Fire Hose Plate 1000m:
Back Me: 6 Ultramarine (Bet Now: $6.50) is a Choisir colt that debuts for the Snowden team. Looked okay in a couple of trials but he sharpened up last Tuesday at Warwick Farm when leading all the way to win and I liked the turn of foot he showed when Shinn pushed the button. Looks an above average type and I am keen to see what he does here.
Big Danger: 2 Eden Roc (Bet Now: $1.95) is a Team Hawkes first starter that is bred in the purple and has the famous red and white diagonal stripes. He trialled last Tuesday at Warwick Farm where he looked to go about his business really nicely when a close up third to Marsupial. Looks above average and confident he can go close to winning here.
Long Shot: 11 Sweet Bouquet (Bet Now: $8.50) is a first starter trained at Warwick Farm by Gary Nickson, who has had a really good record with youngsters for the past few seasons, and this filly looks above average. Led all the way to win a trial on her home track and though pushed out, I liked the way she did it. Should take full advantage of the inside alley and Jason Collett does ride Gary Nickson horses very well.
Race Two (13:20) : Wilkes Quality 1000m:
Back Me: 5 Spending To Win (Bet Now: $3.20) was touted as the winner of the Magic Millions Maiden but he became ineligible after a brilliant first up win at Canterbury where he had a nice sit near the speed and when Shinn asked for the effort, he put away the Stakes performed Super Too quite comfortably. Was down to run in the MM Guineas last week but couldn’t gain a run. Looks one of the hardest to beat here.
Big Danger: 1 Guard Of Honour (Bet Now: $3.10) is the class runner of the field and has to be respected. He resumed in the Spring with a with in the Heritage over 1100m here before running in the Briwn Crowley where he was far from disgraced behind star filly Spright. He has looked outstanding in a couple of barrier trials and Bowman is back on.
Long Shot: 6 Star Crossed (Bet Now: $6.00) is a talented youngster that was hard in the market wehn resuming at Warwick Farm where he got back in the run and finished his race off strongly to run second to Magicaz, who has run well on a couple of occasions since. Back to his own age/sex now and looks a definite threat.
Race Three (13:55) : DX Solutions Handicap (78) 1600m:
Back Me: I was really keen on 1 Harlem Lady (Bet Now: $3.80) last time out at Warwick Farm but the market on the day suggested she lost a leg and had no hope…well she had no hope in the run given the tempo was a crawl and it was a very negative ride, giving the mare no hope. To her credit, she actually hit the line well, so the mile here looks ideal. Keen on her to bounce back.
Big Danger: 2 Lycia (Bet Now: $6.00) had been a bit disappointing this time before going to Warwick Farm where she sat out the back in a slowly run race yet came with a really well timed run to get the job done and show a lovely turn of foot in the process. Now that she has the win on the board, she could go on with it, especially back onto a bigger track like Randwick.
Long Shot: 4 Anisha (Bet Now: $7.50) was good over this track/distance when a narrow second to Via Napoli before going to the Belle Of The Turf at Gosford where she got back and stayed there behind Imposing Lass on a day where leaders and those near the rail/speed were tough to get past. Suited back to this level and can definitely bounce back into the winners list.
Race Four (14:30) : TAB Highway Handicap (Class 2) 1200m:
Back Me: 6 Clipper (Bet Now: $4.80) might only be a three year old filly that has had two career starts, but in time she will develop into a much better horse than Highway grade. Drifted in the market last Tuesday at Nowra, but more so due to the fact she was far too short. Whatever the case, it didn’t matter for her as she won impressively and made it two from two. Stable knows what it takes to win these races and this could potentially be the best runner they’ve saddled up in a Highway.
Big Danger: 2 Nic’s Vendetta (Bet Now: $6.00) is the watch horse here. Placed in three Highway races during the Spring, starting off behind Eckstein and then behind Delightful Feeling, and we know how strong that form is, particularly Eckstein. His trial win at Gosford leading up to this looked quite sharp to the eye and though his fresh record doesn’t read great, gee I think he’ll run a beauty here.
Long Shot: 5 And There Is More (Bet Now: $11.00) is another progressive three year old filly from Canberra, this one in the hands of the Dryden/Collings yard. She ran on her home track a tick over two weeks back where she was confidently supported late in the piece and the punters faith was rewarded with a commanding win against the older horses, which isn’t easy for a filly that was carrying weight. I think she can measure up here for sure given she has the hard fitness under the belt.
Race Five (15:05) : Optus Systems PTY LTD Handicap (78) 2000m:
Back Me: 5 Unbiased (Bet Now: $4.20) is finding it hard to win, but I am going to be with 5 Unbiased. He ran over 1900m at Canterury three weeks back where he had a nice just off the speed and chased hard all the way but couldn’t quite reel them in and had to settle for fourth to Burning Energy. Looks ideally suited at the Randwick 2000m and James Doyle is in a real purple patch.
Big Danger: 3 Embley (Bet Now: $5.00) came with a well timed run to win over 1800m at Rosehill two back before stepping up to the 1900m of the Evening Star at Canterbury where he sat back in a slowly run race and fought on strongly when running second to the in form galloper Cabeza De Vaca. He is the hard fit horse and was closing off last time out so the step up to 2000m should suit.
Long Shot: 7 Quick Defence (Bet Now: $15.00) put in an absolute howler last time out under the lights at Canterbury when running last to Le Cavalier. That followed a run over the mile here where he sat near the speed and the horse reacted positively. If he rolls forward here, he isn’t up against much, and he could well pinch it.
Race Six (15:40) : Rebecca Louise Handicap (82) 1600m:
Back Me: 1 Cauthen’s Power (Bet Now: $4.00) is on the back up after racing a fortnight back over the mile at Warwick Farm where he was kept quite safe in the market and aided by a lovely patient steer from Shinn, the enigmatic galloper got the job done and was strong on the line. Didn’t beat much but you have to respect Waller runners off the back of a last start win.
Big Danger: 2 Olympic Academy (Bet Now: $7.50) was completely unwanted in betting in that Cauthen’s Power race but despite the alarming market drift, he ran an absolute beauty and was only nabbed the final 75m. Considering he is a horse who struggles on wet tracks, that effort looks to be in an indicator he is set for a winning prep.
Long Shot: 8 Rock Mylady (Bet Now: $8.00) also comes through that race won by Cauthen’s Power and she let me down badly because I thought she was a leading contender in that race but after sitting outside the speed, she failed to go on with it and dropped out. She is much better than that, so I’ll give her another look here.
Race Seven (16:20) : Tatts Club Carrington Stakes 1400m:
Back Me: 2 Ninth Legion (Bet Now: $5.00) for me here each way. He had market support at a price when racing in the Buffering at Eagle Farm three weeks back where he sat on a hot speed throughout but to his credit he ambled to the front and looked set for victory but he couldn’t quite hold out the finishing burst of the in form Most Important. Looks well placed speed map wise here and though the stable has a horror strike rate in town, I am prepared to take the chance
Big Danger: 4 Oxford Poet (Bet Now: $3.90) resumed in the Summer Sprint at Warwick Farm a fortnight ago where he was hard in the market off the back of a couple of really sharp trial wins and despite lumping 61kg he stuck to the task really strongly but was simply no match for the high class effort of Dal Cielo. Gets really good weight relief here and he does go very well second up.
Long Shot: Giving 3 Shiraz (Bet Now: $13.00) another look here in the small field. He looked to trial in outstanding fashion prior to having the first run for KIm Waugh in the Starlight where he did nothing and has been much the same in two subsequent runs. He is much better than that, so perhaps the small field and up to 1400m may suit him. Last chance though.
Race Eight (17:00) : Huawei Handicap (76) 1400m:
Back Me: 7 Sonic Swish (Bet Now: $6.00) was okay in restricted room two back at Rosehill behind Louie Sea Kay before going to Warwick Farm and the King Darci race where he settled midfield in the run and couldn’t really come on in the straight when finishing fifth, beaten two lengths. His last win did come at Randwick and though a bit costly to follow, I’m giving him a serious chance here.
Big Danger: 3 Hogamany (Bet Now: $3.50) strung together a couple of impressive wins at Rosehill before being given a little freshen up and racing in that King darci race at Warwick Farm where he had to make his move nearer the inside, and as we know, the inside at Warwick Farm with give in the ground= quicksand. Much better placed here and looks to dominate things from the front.
Long Shot: 4 Got Unders (Bet Now: $6.50) is a proven city performer who is rising a bit in depth but could be a knockout hope at odds. He ran over 1250m at Canterbury last Wednesday where he was given a lovely run near the speed and chased hard all the way but couldn’t hold out the finishing burst of Eastern Legend. Maps really well on speed and the 3kg claim for Heywood is a big tick.
Race Nine (17:40) : Liberty International Underwear Handicap (84) 1200m:
Back Me: See no reason to jump off 6 Deploy (Bet Now: $2.60). This well bred mare has had two runs this time in, both wins, and both coming at Canterbury over 1100m and 1200m respectively, the 1200m win coming on a Saturday program three weeks back when sitting off the tempo before Innes Jr presented her wider on the turn and she let down hard late to win impressively. Has to do it away from there, but I am confident she can handle the step up.
Big Danger: 4 Suspense (Bet Now: $6.50) trialled well behind stablemate Spending To Win prior to racing at Rosehill four weeks ago where he was well backed but it all looked to count for nothing early on in the straight where he was badly held up before Shinn eventually got the splits and the four year old burst through to win. Zero from three at Randwick doesn’t read great but two of those resulted in fourths in stronger company and an another effort in a strong Stakes race during the Championships.
Long Shot: If we get fine weather today, then 3 Got The Goss (Bet Now: $18.00) looks a serious knockout chance at odds. He is a very good galloper that has been plagued by injuries, but he does have a lethal record when produced fresh, winning four of five. Trial at Canberra recently looked quite good to the eye and they ran time. If the track does dry up to the good range by this stage of the day, he is certainly worth an each way play.
