Brisbane racing this Saturday will take place at Eagle Farm for an eight event program. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out six metres for the entire circuit.
Race One (13:27) : Ann Nugent @ R&W Wilston/Windsor Handicap 1000m:
Back Me: I’m not sure how strong the form around 1 Paradis Imperial (Bet Now: $3.60) is, but all you can do is win and she has won four from four in North Queensland and quite simply is too good for them up there. The 1100m on a soft track saw her out I think last start at Mackay, so back to 1000m here looks ideal, and despite carrying the weight, I’m happy to be in her corner.
Big Danger: 3 South Of France (Bet Now: $3.40) is a gelding that debuts for the David Vandyke yard. He has only had the one public appearance, which came in a trial at the Sunny Coast on December 13 when running second and seemingly going about his business quite nicely. Stable are having a tidy run with their juveniles and this one looks a handy type. Might pay to watch the market and see what it does.
Long Shot: 2 Cabierian (Bet Now: $4.80) is the watch horse for sure at a price. This colt hasn’t been seen in public but he is closely related to the well performed Flamboyer and the family tends to come to hand early, plus they always show good early toe, so the $13 opening price against this lot may be overs.
Race Two (14:02) : R&W Wilston/Windsor For Property Management Handicap (75) 2200m:
Back Me: Gee if 10 Game Pie (Bet Now: $6.50) is ever going to win a race again, this surely has to be it. Ran over 1700m at Ipswich and made up ground late behind the well performed Subsolar before going to the 2200m at the Gold Coast where he was given a 12/10 from Avdulla but unfortunately for his supporters, he was nearer the inside and that just wasn’t the spot to be. Eagle Farm track looks perfect for him, weak race…really keen.
Big Danger: 13 Walwa (Bet Now: $10.00) is a mare who has found a real purple patch of form in recent times, winning two on the bounce. The latest of those came at the Doomben mile on the New Years Day public holiday where she had really good market support at a price and it was justified as she showed a sharp turn of foot to put her rivals away quite comfortably. More depth here and up in trip, but she is a mare in form and this is a thin race.
Long Shot: 12 Morendi (Bet Now: $13.00) could be one to include at longer odds. He ran over 1500m on a testing Murwiilumbah track last time out where he was hard in the market but like most that afternoon, he just couldn’t pick his feet but to his credit he battled away okay behind Champagne Rock. Quickly up to 2200m, but it is an ideal trip for him, he has upside and he will be strong late.
Race Three (14:37) : Randw.com.au/wilston-windsor Handicap (2MW) 1200m:
Back Me: 5 Fiery Heights (Bet Now: $3.90) has been given a month freshen up since racing over 1350m at Doomben where he sat on speed most of the way and toughed it out strongly when running second to the well performed Binalong Road, beaten a length. Tends to race well on the fresh side and back to 1200m, and at Eagle Farm, look two big ticks.
Big Danger: 8 Skylimit (Bet Now: $6.50) is probably the best horse in the race and has the breeding to back it up given he is closely related to 2012 Slipper winner Overreach. He did string together a couple of wins during the Winter before two below par efforts and was tipped out. No trials leading in, but he does sprint well fresh and has class/quality.
Long Shot: 3 Tisani Tomso (Bet Now: $17.00) was given a 12/10 from Adam Sewell to win at Toowoomba a fortnight back given he was back nearer the inside before he just poked his way through and once the horse got the split in the straight, he went bang and put the race away. Proven city performer who can definitely knock this field off.
Race Four (15:12) : Australian Childare Brokers Handicap 1000m:
Back Me: 7 Wicked Intent (Bet Now: $10.00) for me in a tricky open handicap. He ran in the Magic Millions Sprint last Saturday where he a nice sit just off the speed but couldn’t finish it off behind Target In Sight. I also think 1200m, especially against that class of horse, is a no go zone for this horse. Better suited at 1000m, suited down in grade…looks the one for me.
Big Danger: They look as if they will go mad in front here, so a swooper could well be 8 Espiritu (Bet Now: $9.00). This mare sat just off the speed first up over this track/distance in the Falvelon and she tried hard but couldn’t match it with the better class mares when fourth to Hidden Pearl. Form out of that has held up via Viddora, and from the tricky gate I can see Tarrant easing back and having the last say.
Long Shot: 9 Lady Jetsetter (Bet Now: $7.50) was a month between runs when racing over 1000m at the Sunny Coast on Boxing Day where she looked to do a bit too much work on speed and just felt the pinch behind Sundance. Got some good form behind her at Eagle Farm and she is a 1000m specialist.
Race Five (15:52) : Australianchildcarebrokers.com.au Plate (Class 3) 1200m:
Back Me: 1 Always Sacred (Bet Now: $4.20) is getting close to his D-Day but I am keen to butter up on him here. He was backed off the map late when racing at the Gold Coast a fortnight back but it was a rare howler from Jeff Lloyd on the horse, sticking to the inside, which was clearly the inferior ground when finishing behind Ringo’s A Rockstar. Third up now, so he should be ready fitness wise and rates highly for me.
Big Danger: 6 Motion Granted (Bet Now: $7.50) sat on speed when resuming over 1000m here on December 14 and bolted up under Cassie Schmidt before going to the Ringo’s A Rockstar race two weeks back where he got a long way back in the run and closed his race off strongly to run second. That may have been a blessing because it shows he can be ridden quiet and still attack the line. Key threat.
Long Shot: 8 Pajados (Bet Now: $41.00) is a former Godolphin galloper that appears to be loving life at Grafton under the care of astute trainer Scott Henley. Took care of an average lot fresh at Lismore before stepping up at Ballina where he got back in the run but once he got clear air, gee he really attacked the line and in the end it was soft. Lot to like about him and I can only see the Eagle Farm 1200m suiting his racing pattern.
Race Six (16:32) : Ascot Childcare & Kindy- Drop & Ride The Train Handicap 1200m:
Back Me: 1 Ringo’s A Rockstar (Bet Now: $3.40) looks the clear horse to beat here. He ran against the older horses a fortnight back at the Gold Coast where he sat wide with cover for the trip before Parnham found the best ground out wide and he put the race away in a couple of strides. That followed a luckless effort at Doomben where he was wide no cover throughout. Back to his own age now…looks extremely hard to beat.
Big Danger: 8 Muddy Rope (Bet Now: $11.00) is an up and coming gelding for Chris Anderson who has won two from two to kick his career off and though both wins have been narrow, he has fought on strongly. Both efforts have been at 1000m, so the 1200m here third up looks ideal and the stable is in ripping form at the moment, especially in town.
Long Shot: 14 Sweet Savannah (Bet Now: $21.00) rises sharply in grade but there was a bit to like about her win a fortnight back at Toowoomba given she sat on a handy speed yet when asked for the supreme effort by Brad Stewart, she showed a lovely turn of foot to put the race away and dash clear. Drops big time in weight after the claim and she has had the hard 1200m run under the belt now. Knockout chance.
Race Seven (17:12) : Ascotchildcare.com.au Handicap 1600m:
Back Me: 3 L’Entrecote (Bet Now: $4.20) looks the way to go here. He comes through the 1800m handicap at the Gold Coast a fortnight back where had a nice sit just off the speed and when presented by Lloyd, it looked game over but I just think he struggled to run out a genuine 1800m and whacked away for fourth to stablemate Bodega Negra. Back to the mile here looks ideal, hard fit and the form prior reads well for here.
Big Danger: 6 Lordag (Bet Now: $5.00) is the class factor and one of the hardest to beat off the back of a last start fifth in the Bernborough behind Cylinder Beach over this track/distance where he got well back in the run before getting clear and finishing his race off with purpose despite never being a winning threat. Suited at this grade and is knocking down the door to win a race. Gets a great chance here.
Long Shot: 8 Black Jet (Bet Now: $11.00) was a real eye catcher two back over the Doomben mile behind L’Entrecote before going to the 1800m handicap at the Gold Coast where he was forced to stick nearer the inside and that just didn’t work, because as we saw on Magic Millions Day, making ground near the rail was a near impossibility. Much better suited here and is a knockout hope at odds.
Race Eight (17:48) : Ascot Childcare & Kindy Opening Soon Handicap (Class 6) 1400m:
Back Me: 9 Cheval Le Vent (Bet Now: $10.00) is a gelding in ripping form this time in for the Marcus Wilson yard. He ran over 1500m here at the midweeks last Wednesday where he led all the way and just bolted in under a lovely front running ride from Ryan Wiggins. This trip should be no issue, down in the weights once again and rates highly.
Big Danger: 11 Mystic Opal (Bet Now: $4.60) has been given a month freshen since racing over 1350m at Doomben where she looked to travel well in the run but when asked for the supreme effort by Cassidy, she didn’t find much and plodded on. She is much better than that, so I’ll go on her prior efforts where she won two races impressively on the bounce.
Long Shot: 2 Chillin With Dylan (Bet Now: $34.00) is such an interesting runner here. Quality stayer that resumes for Ben Ahrens after a near 14 month spell where he last raced over 2200m at Doomben and bolting up. Trialled on December 13 at Deagon when running last to Craiglea Deken but the form out of that trial has been good and he does have class/quality.
