The Parks track at Morphettville is where Adelaide metro racing will take place this Saturday. The weather is overcast, the track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.
Race 1. (13:36) Dominant Handicap (75) 1250m
4 Call Me Curtis (Bet Now: $2.30) might be a sneaky way to go here in the opener. On the quick back up after racing here last Saturday where he sat three deep on a hot speed and rightfully dropped out behind Manuel. Saves his best for the Parks track and I like he is backing up off that hard run otherwise stable would have kept him on ice.
5 Federal Court (Bet Now: $3.80) was really well backed when racing over 1000m here two weeks ago and the market support was nearly justified but the leader Bay Road just had it too good on speed and kicked strongly to win. I think the rise to 1250m is perfect, he’s hard fit, stable in form…yep, a definite threat.
3 Last Bullet (Bet Now: $5.50) was unwanted in betting when resuming over 1200m on the course proper three weeks back but he ran really well in defeat I thought when fourth to Hussybay, who of course franked the form by winning last Saturday. Two of his three wins have come second up and he likes racing on the Parks track.
Race 2. (14:11) Barry Simpson Handicap (70) 1400m
1 Manuel (Bet Now: $1.50) is starting to put it together for the Tony McEvoy yard. I thought there was plenty of merit in his win over 1200m on the course proper last Saturday. He was wide most of the way under John Allen, had to circle the field, and really, he was gassed with about 150m to go but he just kept finding and surged hard to win. That was his first run in five weeks, so there should be a stack of improvement.
4 Stryker Fortune (Bet Now: $6.50) was racing quite consistently prior to racing over the mile on the course proper three weeks back where he put in a howler and was awful when finishing near last behind Spy Decoder. He is much better than that and outside Manuel, this is an awful race, so he gets a chance to find positive form.
6 Night Breeze (Bet Now: $21.00) is a Ryan Balfour trained greybeard who scored a sharp win fresh at Mindarie-Halidon before going to Mildura where he was hard in the market but they ran along in front and he was off the bit a fair way out and couldn’t recover. Trialled up well last week at Gawler so happy to give him another look.
Race 3. (14:46) AAMI Lucky Club Handicap (82) 1400m
2 Dollar For Dollar (Bet Now: $1.50) should take care of this lot. Was nearly two months between runs when racing over the 1250m here a fortnight back and he absolutely spanked them under Jamie Kah, sitting 1/1 before presenting and putting them away at the top of the straight. The rise to 1400m can only be beneficial and he takes on a weaker field.
5 Penny For A Pound (Bet Now: $4.80) is a consistent mare for the David Jolly team and she could easily fill a place here without surprising. She comes through the Moss ‘N’ Dale race at this track/distance two weeks ago and I thought her closing effort was pretty solid. Never looked like winning but she didn’t turn it up. Definite for exotics.
4 Nipperkin (Bet Now: $4.50) is three weeks between runs for the Barry Brook team since racing over 1200m on the course proper where she sat off the pace under Paul Gatt and stuck on well in defeat I thought behind Trupt. She does tend to save her best for the Parks track and she is a mare who is hard fit/in form.
Race 4. (15:21) Happy 90th Birthday Mum Handicap (70) 1400m
1 Paseeto (Bet Now: $1.75) looks the way to go here. Talented son of Nicconi for Tony McEvoy who was backed as if unbeatable when resuming over 1300m here a fortnight back and aided by such a sweet ride from Jamie Kah, the colt pounced on the lead and won comfortably. Can only see upside and I think only bad luck beats him.
5 Unscopeable (Bet Now: $13.00) finished best in a driving go to win first up over 1100m on the course proper before racing over 1300m where she was no match for Glam Guru, who ran well in the Hill Smith last week, so the form reads well, and her latest trial was strong enough to suggest she’ll run well here.
6 Deplorable (Bet Now: $7.50) is a daughter of Hussonet for the Lloyd Kennewell team who was okay on debut at Pakenham behind Reserve Street before being sent to Kennewell and the filly reacted to her new surroundings with a dynamic finishing burst to win at Strathalbyn. Clearly harder here, but plenty to like about that last start effort.
Race 5. (15:56) Schweppes Maiden Plate 1250m
12 Lady Of Crebilly (Bet Now: $2.40) clearly on top for me. Phillip Stokes trained filly who resumed at Gawler last Wednesday and I thought she was given an awful ride from Dom Tourneur. She just got too far back and was surrounded by slow ones while the well backed runner was out of trouble near the pace and pinched a winning margin. Up to the 1250m here on a bigger track, I’m confident she can break the maiden tag.
4 Made IN Russia (Bet Now: $3.30) is a son of Street Cry on debut for the Tony McEvoy yard and China Horse Club. This bloke trialled at Gawler last Friday and won his trial over 1000m, albeit narrowly and in not flash time, but with this stable, you always have to respect them, and this could well be the first run for the stable with the owners, so he’d want to make a good impression.
2 Canford (Bet Now: $17.00) started bolters odds in a benchmark race on debut here a fortnight back and despite his long price, I thought her an a beauty in defeat when fourth to the above average Paseeto, who should win race four. This horse drops back to maiden grade, draws a soft gate and has enormous upside.
Race 6. (16:41) Youngcare Grants Handicap (75) 1300m
Keen here on 7 Embecee Lil (Bet Now: $3.00). Up and coming mare for Ryan Balfour who did an outstanding job last time out over 1250m here. I think the ride cost it the win. She just got too far back in the run while stablemate Street Embrace was all alone in front and kicked on the turn, setting up a winning margin. Up to 1300m is perfect and she’s a good bet.
6 Fastbrook (Bet Now: $8.00) was given a lovely ride from Beau Mertens to win fresh at Wangaratta before going to Geelong where she took on a pretty solid field and found the class a bit much behind Another Coldie. This looks more her level, she draws to stalk the speed and gets the services of form hoop Jason Holder.
Market said that 1 Model Dragon (Bet Now: $4.80) had no hope when she resumed over 1200m on the course proper three weeks back and that is how it panned out after she got too far back in the run and just lacked race fitness behind Trupt. Has a dynamic second up record and is unbeaten on the Parks track.
Race 7. (17:21) UBET Handicap (90) 1950m
2 Kourkam (Bet Now: $6.50) on top for me. Tony McEvoy trained gelding who has had two runs back from a break now and has been solid each time. Resumed in the Balaklava Cup where he was no hope in a leaders race behind Balf’s choice before going to the Tokyo City Cup where he finished close up behind stablemate Brown Ben. Getting out to a more ideal trip and has upside.
1 Jim’s Journey (Bet Now: $3.10) is a talented stayer for Peter Blanch who has had two runs this prep. Resumed in the Balaklava Cup and made up really good ground late in the piece behind Balf’s Choice before going to the Tokyo City Cup where he was desperately unlucky and you could make a case he should have beaten Brown Ben. Finds a very winnable race here.
7 Our Boy Nicholas (Bet Now: $20.00) is a real enigma for Grant Young but if he is on song, he’s right in this. Ran over 2100m at Gawler last time out and just got a mile back in the run on a day where those near the speed/rail were advantaged, finishing down the track behind Centre Divider. The runs prior in town and his efforts would see him go close here.
Race 8. (18:00) The Junction Handicap (64) 1250m
7 All Eez (Bet Now: $2.45) got the maiden win out of the way in style two back in good time at Balaklava before racing over 1300m here where he sat off the pace and tried hard but couldn’t quite reel in stablemate Paseeto and had to settle for second. Like he has dodged the stablemate and tackles the softer option here.
1 Street Embrace (Bet Now: $3.80) is absolutely low flying at the moment for the Ryan Balfour. Clever ride from Huxtable got him the win here a fortnight back. Ran along at a decent clip and kicked hard on the turn, setting up a winning margin over stablemate Embecee Lil. Looks the leader here and should take some beating.
3 Miss Identified (Bet Now: $3.90) had gone off the boil a touch in recent times but she bounced back to form in a big way last start at Gawler on a heavy track where she bolted up under young Huxtable, spanking her rivals. Does tend to save her best for tracks with give in them, so the weather will be the key to her chances. Hoping there is cushion.
