Nine races will be run and won at Doomben this Saturday. The weather forecast is for showers, the track is heavy (8) and the rail is out three metres for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (13:17) Breast Cancer Network Australia Handicap 1110m

Back Me

9 Rains Aplenty (Bet Now: $3.60) is a John Zielke trained colt who debuted over 900m at the Gold Coast two weeks back where he was a heavily backed fav but he let the punters down when wandering all over the place while the stablemate You Know The One did everything right and got the win. Trainer believes Rains Aplenty is a much better horse so I’ll trust his judgement.

Danger

12 Baby Boo (Bet Now: $5.00) was hard in the market when debuting over the 900m at the Gold Coast but she just went a fraction too hard behind them and couldn’t finish it off when a close up fourth to Pony Power. Should be better for the run and I think up the 1110m in a proper race, with the run under the belt, should see her prove hard to beat.

Long Shot

3 Bauhinia Luck (Bet Now: $11.00) is the interesting runner here. Darryl Hansen trained son of Sidereus on debut here with no public trials to speak of. Going on breeding here, and he should come to handy, and with the dam being by Rory’s Jester, a wet track will certainly be no issue for this gelding. Definite yard/market watch.

Race 2. (13:52) Paspaley Handicap (1MW) 1200m

Back Me

2 Lady Sioux (Bet Now: $5.50) has been a bit frustrating since coming back to Steve O’Dea but a track with give in it and tempo should see her go close here. She ran over 1200m at the Sunny Coast and I liked the way she closed off her race with purpose to run second to in form mare My Girl Hayley. Loves a track with give and she’ll get it here.

Danger

9 Plucky Girl (Bet Now: $3.80) is a consistent mare for the Toby Edmonds camp who has been freshened up since racing over the 1350m here on September 16 where she was far from disgraced in running a game third to Manias, who was one of the form gallopers in Brisbane at the time. She does race well on the fresh side and handles all conditions.

Long Shot

13 Loose Goose (Bet Now: $13.00) is a Matty Dunn trained mare who had her first run for the stable a fortnight back over 1000m at the Sunny Coast and for mine she just looked in need of the run when sixth to Just Orm. Has a really good second up record and I think back to 1200m will be ideal, and keep in mind her best efforts have come on tight tracks.

Race 3. (14:27) The Prop House Handicap 2200m

Back Me

2 My Diamantine (Bet Now: $3.70) has to go on top. Brian Smith trained mare who was unlucky two back in the Stayers Cup at Ipswich behind Loving Home before going to the Metropolitan where she was far from disgraced I thought behind Foundry. That’s Group l. She drops to a weak open handicap in Brisbane. Surely the right form.

Danger

3 Vassal (Bet Now: $3.70) is just bursting to win a race but I’ve run out of patience with him to put him on top. He looked all over a winner when racing at the Gold Coast 2200m a fortnight back but he couldn’t get past Outraged, who got the run up the rail and bloused them late. Impossible to trust, but reliable in that he’ll go close.

Long Shot

6 My Giuliano (Bet Now: $5.50) is the big watch here. This son of Choisir has been okay since coming to Queensland but he is a horse who is crying out for a track with give in it and he finally gets it today. The other big ticks for him are that he tumbles in weight from last start and Jim Byrne picks him over Vassal.

Race 4. (15:02) Civforce Pipelaying Plate (Class 3) 1050m

Back Me

7 I’ve Gotta Nel (Bet Now: $4.40) on top in a race I have no confidence in. This gelding resumed at this track/distance a tick over two weeks back where he was an alarming drifter in betting with the thought being he’d need the run and that is how it panned out when third to Valfierno. Now he has the run, he should be better off and draws a sweet gate.

Danger

5 Valfierno (Bet Now: $5.50) is a four year old gelding in ripping form at the moment. He is two for two this prep, both over the 1000m, the latest coming a couple of Wednesdays back here where he had the box seat trail before Fradd got him clear air and he showed a lovely turn of foot to put away a handy field with ease. Harder here, but he deserves a crack.

Long Shot

18 Invincible Storm (Bet Now: $16.00) is the swimmer here so she comes right into play at odds. She ran a tick over two weeks back over this track/distance on a heavy track and stuck on well in defeat behind the above average Peking Road. Tends to save her best for a track with give in it and is right down in the weights.

Race 5. (15:37) Pink Lady Handicap 1050m

Back Me

4 Hi I’m Back (Bet Now: $5.50) ran in the Powerful Saga race at the Gold Coast a fortnight back and I thought he did a good job considering he was far too back in the run and the race was dominated by those nearer the speed. He won’t be far back here via the small field, he has the fitness edge and is a noted swimmer.

Danger

1 Cantbuybetter (Bet Now: $7.50) is a talented gelding first up for the in form Ben Currie team. This bloke had a really good Autumn/Winter prep, highlighted by a win in the Members Cup over the mile here during the Carnival. He resumes with no trials, but he is a bomb when produced fresh and he has a liking for Doomben.

Long Shot

8 Raido (Bet Now: $15.00) is the very interesting runner here. Former Kris Lees trained sprinter having his first run for the Tony Gollan team. He was around the mark in Sydney when trained by Lees but just went off the boil towards the end so a change of scenery might be ideal. Resumes with no trials, but he has a super first up record.

Race 6. (16:22) Alliance Airlines Handicap (70) 1350m

Back Me

16 Red Handle (Bet Now: $5.00) is a nightmare to trust but she is bred to swim so she will get conditions to suit here. Thought she had her chance last time out at the Gold Coast but perhaps she was ridden a touch too close to the speed…that’s the only excuse I could find for her. But the big tick is the wet track. She comes right into play.

Danger

10 Revaldor (Bet Now: $4.20) has been a nightmare to follow in recent times but all he has been waiting for is a wet track and he finally gets it here. Was hard in the market at the Gold Coast last time out but just couldn’t dash from the back and was a flop behind Legal Counsel. He is a massive threat now he gets his toe in.

Long Shot

7 Lucky Lucre (Bet Now: $18.00) is another that will be suited by the rain about. He ran at the midweeks at the track/distance here and never really looked likely but was sound late behind Mystical Renegade. Likes racing here, has a fab record on wet tracks and should get a sweet run from the gate with Stewart steering.

Race 7. (17:02) Hastings Deering Caterpillar Handicap (1MW) 1200m

Back Me

5 Live Fast (Bet Now: $3.30) is a very consistent sprinter for the Tony Sears team who is on the seven day back up after racing over 1050m here last week and kept finding the line but just couldn’t quite pick up the in form Ice Frost. Up to 1200m yes, wet track yes, and the big tick, down to 52.5kg yes. Very keen.

Danger

3 Charlie Cat (Bet Now: $5.00) was confidently backed for the Michael Costa team when resuming over 1200m at the Gold Coast four weeks back and the support was justified as he rallied hard under the big weight to show his class and edge clear late. Goes really well second up and I like the fact he has been kept on the fresh side.

Long Shot

One horse who won’t mind a track with give in it is 11 Monster Of Energy (Bet Now: $11.00). He has been off the boil for some time now for the Brian Smith team but the ticks for me are that he is on the back up from last week, and he has reacted to that positively before. And the other tick is a track with give in it. He saves his best for it.

Race 8. (17:37) Icon Group Handicap 1350m

Back Me

2 Freddie Fox Trot (Bet Now: $3.90) is a very promising three year old for the Les Kelly team who ran over 1200m on his home track at the Gold Coast last time out where he was dominant in winning. Led at an even tempo, kicked strongly at the top of the straight and when challenged, he found another gear. 1350m no issue and he’s the one to beat.

Danger

1 Colosimo (Bet Now: $4.80) came with a well timed run to win two back at Ipswich but I thought Fradd missed the boat last time out at the Gold Coast. He just got too far back on the filly while Miss Exfactor had pinched a margin and she clung on. I think the 1350m will be ideal and a drop of rain will be a big tick.

Long Shot

3 Miss Exfactor (Bet Now: $6.50) won that Gold Coast race mentioned above and it was the aggressive ride from Jim Byrne that won the race for the daughter of Your Song. Set up a winning break and held on. 1350m is a different pain barrier, but she maps well and her record on wet tracks is very good. Definite threat.

Race 9. (18:17) Integra Advisory Plate (Class 6) 1615m

Back Me

11 Duke Of Christophe (Bet Now: $31.00) looks a nice each way play here. Brian Smith trained gelding who was given a lovely ride by Cassidy to win over the Ipswich mile last Wednesday. Saved plenty of ground, waited for the split and burst through to nab them late. Got some good runs next to his name here and he won’t mind a track with give.

Danger

9 Torgersen (Bet Now: $1.90) hadn’t won for a long time but the win finally came his way a fortnight back at the Gold Coast in an open handicap where he chased tearaway leader Dreams Aplenty and dashed past her to win and ran sizzling time. He has performed well on rain affected ground before and he’ll eat up the mile.

Long Shot

10 Cornrow (Bet Now: $9.50) is a very consistent type for the Hulbert team who comes through the Urban Knight race at teh Sunny Coast on September 30. He got a fair way back off the pace but chimed in with purpose when getting clear air. Just missed out on the win but his effort was sound. If he runs out the mile, he’s a definite chance.
