Nine races will be run and won at Morphettville on Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is soft (6) and the rail is out six metres from the 1200m-Winning Post; Out four metres for the remainder.
Race 1. (12:22) Spring Carnival At Morp-rs2ly 1100m
Tricky race to start the meeting. Leaning towards 2 Magna Bella (Bet Now:Β $4.00), who resumes for Andrew Clarken. She raced during the Autumn Carnival here where she was excellent behind Groundswell on the Parks track before a down the track effort in the R A Lee. Good fresh horse that has trialled well leading in and won’t mind some cushion in the track.
4 Extra Mile (Bet Now:Β $4.80) is a Team Jolly trained gelding that has a win on the board after a run of outs and could well go on with it. Narrow but strong win here three weeks ago, just getting the better of Noname Lane in a tight go. Had been bursting to win for some time, and now that he has, he can go on with it. Hard to beat.
5 Miss Jane (Bet Now:Β $14.00) is a little while between wins but Paul Seater has her racing in solid form. Was near the speed throughout in the Extra Mile race mentioned above and stuck to the task pretty well in defeat. Should get a suck run in transit here and like the booking of Vorster.
Race 2. (13:02) The Junction (bm72) 1200m
2 Extra Time (Bet Now:Β $4.60) has the strong form lines around him to resume a winner for the Macdonald/Gluyas camp. Hasn’t raced since getting a mile back in the run and working home okay in the Nitschke behind Incredulous Dream. Liked a recent trial, saves his best for here and should lob into a lovely spot from the draw with the claim.
7 Crown Mint (Bet Now:Β $2.40) looks to be in for a good prep. Resumed over 1200m at Murray Bridge two weeks ago and finished his race off with real purpose from near last in the run when third to Yulong Code. He has the class/quality to take this out, and that resumption was very encouraging.
3 Aiguilette (Bet Now:Β $7.00) isn’t far off a win I feel for John Macmillan. Market didn’t want him when he ran at Murray Bridge last tie but despite having no friends in the market, he ran really well behind Yulong Code in a good effort. If he’s within range and with cover, he’ll be dangerous.
Race 3. (13:37) Accolade Wines Mdn Plate 1200m
2 Castle Of Kings (Bet Now:Β $2.25) gets the nod for me. Former Kiwi for Will Clarken that has done little wrong since joining the camp. Only problem is that he hasn’t greeted the judge first. Tried hard two weeks ago at Murray Bridge but couldn’t quite get there when a narrow second to Manhattan Times. Bursting to win a race and gets his chance.
14 Wheels Of Courage (Bet Now:Β $5.00) is on the seven day back up after resuming here last Saturday in a maiden. He got a mile back in the run but loved the way he closed his race off when third to So Say Angel. Off that, he should appreciate the extra ground and stable wouldn’t back up unless he has come through the run with flying colours.
7 Sea Of Secrets (Bet Now:Β $7.50) is a Ryan Balfour trained first starter that has had market support in early betting. Quiet trial back in April before a spell. Trialled a couple of weeks ago and looked a much better horse when winning that trial in solid time. Keen to see how she goes despite a tricky gate.
Race 4. (14:17) Fleurieu Milk Company (bm68) 2025m
12 Livingstone Falls (Bet Now:Β $2.90) looks the good thing across Australia for Saturday. This just appears to be such good placement by Andrew Noblet, with the mare stepping up in trip after a couple of solid runs at the mile at Sandown, both of which are strong form references. Up to 2000m, soft draw, Vorster steering…think only bad luck beats her.
5 Mr Joobs (Bet Now:Β $12.00) is racing well for Phillip Stokes and is knocking on the door to win. Was 2500m back to 2000m when racing at Murray Bridge two weeks ago and fought on really well in defeat when second to Under Oath. Repeat effort here and he’ll take beating.
9 Don’t Waiver (Bet Now:Β $34.00) hasn’t been too bad since joining Danielle Wilson and I think is knocking on the door to win one. Ran at Murray Bridge a fortnight back and closed off strongly from off the speed behind Under Oath. He’s ready to win and I think he gets a great chance here.
Race 5. (14:57) 36? South Beef (rs0mw) 1050m
I’m pretty keen on 1 Bones (Bet Now:Β $2.70) here for Mitch Freedman. Talented gelding that resumed in a 64 at Coleraine and thanks to some magic from Johnny Allen, he was able to slice his way through the field and charge late to get the win. Gets in well after the claim and go back last prep, he has strong Melbourne metro form lines.
7 Impossible Action (Bet Now:Β $10.00) is a son of All Too Hard for Team Jolly that resumes. Hasn’t raced since April 3 when down the track during the Oakbank Carnival behind the then in form Casino Seventeen, perhaps not handling that tricky track. Usually runs well fresh and has trialled well.
8 Lohn Ranger (Bet Now:Β $8.00) is a John Macmillan trained gelding that is quite honest and is generally around the mark more often than not. Tried his heart out at Murray Bridge last time and was game in defeat once again when third to Rusty Halo, beaten 0,7L. Fitter, hard to beat.
Race 6. (15:37) Furphy (bm78) 1600m
5 Seiner’s Express (Bet Now:Β $3.50) on top but not really a race I want to get involved in. Couple of Harry Coffey gems helped him win two on the bounce at Flemington. Then went to the Valley three weeks ago and was good in defeat behind I’m Thunderstruck. That looks a strong form line for this.
1 Not Usual Glorious (Bet Now:Β $4.40) is on a potential Melbourne Cup path. Lot of bridge to go under the water between now and then but he has a good motor. Hasn’t raced for six weeks since a game second at Gawler behind stablemate Mahis Angel. Tick over trial was strong and big tick that Gatt is back on.
10 Flying Pierro (Bet Now:Β $26.00) is racing really well this time in for the Jolly camp. Narrow second to Jaguary three weeks ago before backing up a week later here when on speed and tried hard, but just couldn’t pick his feet up on the bog. Better suited here and can easily bounce back.
Race 7. (16:17) Rex Brennan (bm60) 1600m
This is the weakest race that 1 Tibetan (Bet Now:Β $5.50) has contested since arriving from New Zealand and with the 3kg claim, gee he gets in well. Ran last Saturday here over 1500m when on speed and fighting on strongly when a narrow second to Turfitt. He’ll take a power of beating here.
5 She’s A Karaka (Bet Now:Β $7.00) should be suited up in trip for David Jolly. Two runs for the new camp have been very encouraging, winning at the Murray Bridge mile before having a mini freshen up and coming back to 1400m when just looking race rusty. She’ll come on from that and back up in trip, she appeals.
8 Marina (Bet Now:Β $8.50) is racing really well at the moment and deserved a win on the board. He got that two weeks back at Murray Bridge, sitting on speed and he was there to be run down, but found plenty under pressure and was too good. Lands on speed once again and gets in well after the claim.
Race 8. (16:52) Grand Syndicates (bm68) 1050m
9 Mutinous (Bet Now:Β $3.80) is unbeaten since joining Travis Doudle and no reason why he can’t make it three on the bounce. Latest win came several weeks ago at Gawler when leading throughout and yes, he had bias in his corner, but he still smashed them. He’s got sustained speed and that will carry him a long way.
8 Heroic Chief (Bet Now:Β $5.50) is a Team Kavanagh trained gelding that comes to SA as a last start winner having broken the maiden tag at Ballarat on the Synthetic under a heavy ride from Froggy, who really lifted him late to get the win. Clearly a harder assignment but have to respect the stable sending him across.
3 Elite Legacy (Bet Now:Β $10.00) is certainly capable with his best. Tony Noonan trained gelding that comes over from Victoria with solid metro form, his latest run being far from disgraced down the Flemington straight behind Zorro’s Dream. That form does read well for a race like this.
Race 9. (17:27) Barossa Fine Foods (bm60) 1200m
6 Spelman (Bet Now:Β $4.00) is a stablemate of Kong who is lightly raced and showing good promise. Solid debut on the Parks track here before going to Balaklava where he looked a good thing on paper and duly saluted in good style, being strong late. Lands in a plum spot from the draw and is a key winning chance.
8 Enchantingly (Bet Now:Β $4.40) has done little wrong in two runs for Scott Westover. Both runs came in the early part of Winter where she was runner up on both occasions in town on the Parks track. Sharp trial win on Monday beating some well performed types so keen to see how she goes.
10 Romalette (Bet Now:Β $31.00) hasn’t done a great deal in two runs for Will Clarken but with the 3kg claim and a drop in overall depth, I’m including her. Just looked in need of the run fresh. They rode her warm last start at Murray Bridge and she just felt the pinch late. Reckon ridden quiet, she’ll be more effective.
