The Parks track at Morphettville will play host to a nine race card on Wednesday. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out six metres for the entire circuit.
Race 1. (12:51) Holdfast Insurance (bm82) 1550m
4 Peloton (Bet Now: $1.80) is much better suited at this level for Michael Hickmott. Ran at a very strong tempo over the mile at Flemington two weeks ago and that hot speed saw him tire late behind Power Scheme in what I think will be a good form reference. Returns back to SA, should find the front here and prove hard to get past.
5 Extreme Thrill (Bet Now: $2.00) is racing well at the moment. He comes through the Magna Bella race from last Monday here. Had the suck behind the leader and eventual winner so he had his chance to wear him down. Just wasn’t good enough but was still sound in finishing second. More genuine tempo will help his cause and is a knockout chance.
6 Superveloce (Bet Now: $14.00) is third pick and while his form says no, the small field and his last start effort has him as a knockout chance. Closed off well late last time out over 1400m here behind Hankstar after getting held up for a few strides. Gets to a more ideal trip, has more upside than most…a win wouldn’t totally shock.
Race 2. (13:26) Peter Elberg Funerals Hcp (c2) 1250m
3 Winning Weather (Bet Now: $1.60) is a Macdonald/Gluyas trained filly that is three weeks between runs since resuming over 1200m on the course proper here. Was very one paced when the sprint went on but picked up and was sound late behind Star Of Uma, who has since placed at blacktype level, so the form reads okay and stable is firing.
7 Daniyah (Bet Now: $5.00) is a very interesting runner. Has been kept on ice, having not raced since her resumption five weeks ago when just off a strong speed and battled away okay despite seemingly getting every chance behind Mileva. The 1250m has to be a slight query with her, especially off a freshen up, but she’s in the right stable.
8 Wild Imagination (Bet Now: $10.00) looks a talented filly for the Jolly camp. Would have loved her at 1400m rather than 1250m, but she has the ability to measure up. Debuted over 1200m at Gawler on Oaks Day and was a real eye catcher late from the back when third to Li’l Piper. Small field helps and if they go hard in front, she’ll be strong late.
Race 3. (14:01) Weslo Security Mdn Plate 1250m
You have to think this is nearly D-Day for 11 Rocabella (Bet Now: $2.70). This Team McEvoy trained filly has had good wraps on her since day one and really, she hasn’t lived up to them. Was quite keen on her when she resumed on Cup Day on the course proper but after getting across to be near speed and she tried hard, but had her chance I thought when third. If she runs up to the way she trials, she wins and wins comfortably.
2 Noname Lane (Bet Now: $4.80) is bursting to win his maiden for Will Clarken. Has finished runner up in both runs this time in, the latest coming on Cup Day over the mile where he was near the speed and tried hard, but just didn’t have any answers to go with Cashin’ Chex and whacked away to run second. Racing well…just back to 1250m is a slight query.
10 Free Of Sin (Bet Now: $19.00) is a horse I could throw in multiples. Debuted on Cup Day over 1050m where he we was unwanted in betting and despite having no friends in the market, he ran an okay race when fourth to Naleigh. Not sure he is good enough to win a city maiden, but in terms of exotics, can certainly include.
Race 4. (14:36) Furphy (bm72) 1300m
3 Renegade (Bet Now: $3.00) is going quite well this time in for the McEvoy camp. Gave them a spanking two back before racing in the Final last Monday where he was near a good speed and probably hit the front too soon but stayed on and was more than sound in defeat when second to Magnetic Edge. Think that form reads well for a race like this.
1 Left Hand Man (Bet Now: $6.50) can bounce back here. He ran here last Monday and was disqualified due to gear coming off, the saddle shifting abruptly and Sophie Logan weighted in light due to that. Prior form suggested a win was nearby and he was hard in the market in that race, so think he can win this for sure.
Very interested in 4 Territory Titan (Bet Now: $11.00), who resumes for the James Dodgson team. He was one of the finds of the Winter, winning four on the bounce, including a couple in town. Not a noted fresh performer, and no trials or jumpouts, so a bit of guessing involved, but he has enough quality to run a forward race here.
Race 5. (15:16) Winning Edge Presentations-c1 1300m
I’m with the former Kiwi, 2 Munster (Bet Now: $2.80). Makes his Australian debut for Michael Hickmott and we’ve seen the record this season the stable has had with these former NZ gallopers. Lightly raced over there, but the form around him does read quite well and looked to go quite nicely in a Murray Bridge trial last week.
The best version of 3 Oh Please Dianna (Bet Now: $2.40) would see her spank this lot, but she’s been very frustrating this time in. Last run came a month back at this track/distance when down the track behind Trip in a far stronger race than this. Market will be your guide here. If she remains hard in the market, she’s the one to beat.
6 Ranger Cee Jay (Bet Now: $26.00) is a winning threat here for sure. Just looked in need of the run first up at Strathalbyn before going to Gawler where he was given a 12/10 steer by Jeff Maund and looked the winner when he got clear air. Just couldn’t quite finish it off and had to settle for second. Got upside to come and a win wouldn’t shock.
Race 6. (15:56) Tab Create Your Calendar-bm68 1950m
It’s hard seeing 2 Star Status (Bet Now: $2.60) getting beat here. He was there to be beaten when racing at this track/distance two weeks ago but he was just bolting in the run and when Stubby asked for the big effort, away he went and he was much too good for his rivals. Can only see him winning again if he holds his form.
6 Getouttheway (Bet Now: $4.00) should be suited up to the 1950m. Ran over 1800m on Cup Day on the course proper here where he chased strongly when Meehni dashed clear and was able to overhaul that mare in the final few strides. Off that, 1950m here should be fine for him and the small field helps his cause.
9 Floriano (Bet Now: $6.00) can be a bit hit and miss at times, but she does have talent on her day and is capable of measuring up in town. Strong winner last time out at Gawler 2100m when on speed and kicking on powerfully late. Just back to 1950m is the query and if she is to win, think she needs to make this a proper staying contest.
Race 7. (16:36) Chalk Hill (bm82) 1000m
9 Saorsa (Bet Now: $12.00) should love a fast run 1000m here. That’s what he got when he raced here last Monday and I thought closed off pretty well late in the piece behind impressive winner and the very much in form Star Hills. Gets a similar set up to last time and just a hint of improvement can see him take this out.
8 Port Vale (Bet Now: $9.50) is a Stuart Gower trained gelding that was big odds when he raced here last Monday due to being out of form in easier races, but he found positive form and closed off well when second to Star Hills. He is a horse who is very much hit and miss at times but when he brings his best, he can take this out.
4 Arrow Lane (Bet Now: $51.00) has an okay second up record and I think can be a big improver here at odds. He ran in the Star Hills race from last Monday when wide with cover and was there to do something at the top of the straight but plodded and was disappointing. Might have needed the run so giving him an outside chance.
Race 8. (17:16) Twilight Races At M'ville-bm64 1550m
Tricky race. I’d love to see 9 Exalted Traveller (Bet Now: $4.40) ridden positively from the gate. They rode him with a sit last time out here and he worked home okay without really threatening when third to Hankstar. Think up to 1550m is a positive for this guy and if they do go forward, I think he’ll take some beating here.
8 Crown Harmonium (Bet Now: $4.40) is a John Hickmott trained mare that isn’t far off another win I feel. Ran here last Monday and was held up for a few strides but thought she was out in time to wear down Journica. Just couldn’t quite there. She’s racing well and deserving of another win. Think she gets her chance here.
13 Leonarda (Bet Now: $15.00) has done most of her racing at Port Lincoln, but the stable had a throw at the stumps when coming to town here last time out and it paid off, with the mare placing when second to impressive winner Like A Heartbeat. Bit of depth to this field but she’s racing well and up to 1550m is a positive.
Race 9. (17:52) Accolade Wines (bm64) 1000m
1 Viduka (Bet Now: $3.10) is a handy animal for Ryan Balfour that should be thereabouts once again. Was on him when he raced here last Monday. Did a bit of work in the run but not sure he would have beaten Exalted Zoe, who was impressive from the front. He is bursting to win another race and with better luck in running, can take this out.
Hard to ignore 6 Exalted Zoe (Bet Now: $2.70) for the Grant Young camp. Got control here last Monday and that was end of the race as she led throughout and was dominant in the run to the line. Bit more depth this time around but should get on speed without spending too many petrol tickets and proving hard to beat once again.
Couldn’t back 8 Akkacan (Bet Now: $10.00) to win but for multiples, he definitely goes in. Ran over this track/distance just under two weeks ago when back near last in the run and finishing off strongly when fourth to The Raven. Will need luck again from the wide gate, so couldn’t back to win, but he goes in the quaddie.
