Spring is in the air at Morphettville Parks this Saturday with a strong card of racing, headlined by the Penny Edition Stakes (1400m) with a quality field assembled. The weather is overcast, the track is heavy (8) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

Race One (12:58) : M & J Willis Australian Opal Mines Handicap (70) 1000m:
Back Me: There isn’t much of 5 Nodoubtaboutit (Bet Now: $7.50) but gee she is tough. Two for two in her career, the latest coming on the course proper where she looked beaten several times but just kept finding. Closer to the end of her prep than the beginning but she will be on speed and out of trouble.
Big Danger: 4 The Seductress (Bet Now: $9.00) is a talented filly that resumes for Jason Warren. She ran some really good races during the Summer/Autumn, including a win at Caulfield before failing in Stakes races. Trials leading in have been sharp, beating home I Am A Star, who came out to win the Vain last weekend, so the form reads very well. Hard to beat for sure.
Roughie: 10 Mystified (Bet Now: $5.00) debuted in a maiden on the course proper a fortnight back and despite the market drift, gee she was impressive in leading all the way and the time would have compared very well if she ran over 1200m based on splits; it compared well with the Spring Stakes. Brings that here and she’ll go very close.

Race Two (13:33) : Valentia @ Cornerstone Stud Handicap (82) 2400m:
Back Me: How can you go against 3 Allez Tara (Bet Now: $1.90). He has just been so impressive in recent times, winning his last two starts by an aggregate margin of 21 lengths. He will roll forward again, and it’s hard to look elsewhere.
Big Danger: 2 Try Four (Bet Now: $4.40) has been in really good form of late for Darren Weir, winning his past two, with the latest coming over the jumps at Bendigp. He has since been kept up to the mark with a jumps trial to tune up for this assignment. The key for him is that John Allen rides and he rode Allez Tara in the first of its romps, so he’ll know what to do.
Roughie: 7 Kiwi Colleen (Bet Now: $13.00) was an impressive winner here two back before going to the course proper a fortnight back where she chased hard and closed off well when a close up second to Hoylake. Proven on the track and 2400m will be no issue.

Race Three (14:08) : Daken And Daken Real Estate Handicap (75) 1550m:
Back Me: 4 Mio Dio (Bet Now: $5.00) hasn’t won for some time, but I think he gets his chance here. He closed off well behind Cavaloce two back before proving that was no fluke with a game second to Creance a fortnight ago after looking the winner. Just don’t think he sees out a strong mile, so back to 1550m and back on the Parks track are big ticks.
Big Danger: 3 Ghumbashy (Bet Now: $5.00) is a former French galloper making his debut down under for Tony McEvoy. He won two races when trained over, both over 12 furlongs and beyond. Two trials leading in have been okay and this isn’t a strong race.
Roughie: 8 Rothmoore (Bet Now: $6.00) ran over the mile on the course proper three weeks back and was given a beaut steer from Pannell to get the job done impressive, dashing clear late after receiving a lovely sit just off the speed. Bit more depth here, but that would have been a confidence building win and she has a turn of foot.

Race Four (14:48) : Akeed Mofeed @ Goldin Farms Handicap (64) 1250m:
Back Me: 2 Niccoco (Bet Now: $2.20) is a talented galloper that resumes for Tony McEvoy. He hasn’t raced for over 200 days since finishing a narrow second to River Wild at Rosehill. That horse of course went on to be very good in quality races during the Autumn Carnival. His two trials leading in have been solid and he did win impressively first up last time in.
Big Danger: 7 Iceflow (Bet Now: $14.00) was once upon a very capable horse racing in Melbourne. He is now with John Croucher and a recent trial here was encouraging, and given his Melbourne consisted of efforts behind Jameka and Petits Filous…he’ll be right in this.
Roughie: 13 Delivery Day (Bet Now: $31.00) is a two start maiden but should be considered here. He was solid in defeat when racing over this track/distance given he had to make ground on the worst part of the track when fourth. Takes on some handy types here, but has upside and is drawn to be out of trouble.

Race Five (15:28) : Guardian Insurance Brokers Handicap (75) 1000m:
Back Me: 2 Risen From Doubt, (Bet Now: $3.20) if he brings his best, will spank these. He looked sharp in a Flemington jump out prior to resuming down the straight there where he was completely ridden upside down behind Shaf and rightfully finished near last. He is best ridden when sitting and ambushing, and if that happens here, surely his class will get him home.
Big Danger: 3 Classy Jack (Bet Now: $5.50) is finding it hard to win, but it isn’t far away. He ran here last Saturday and ran along at a cracking pace with pressure applied, and that effort just told late when grabbed by War Thunder. I don’t think he’ll cop as much pressure here, and he does get weight relief. Definite threat.
Roughie: 6 Trueno (Bet Now: $12.00) ran behind Classy Jack in that race last Saturday and closed off okay without threatening, running fifth. He can sit closer in the run if need be and has upside. Not sure he can win, but a must for exotics.

Race Six (16:08) : John O’Neil OAM Happy Retirement Handicap (75) 1300m:
Back Me: 11 Murti (Bet Now: $7.00) just looks the winner here IMO. He was smashed in betting to win on the course proper two weeks back and though ridden a touch upside down, he was just far too good for his rivals, bolting up to win impressively. He is best ridden with cover, and if that eventuates here, he’ll be even more dynamic and that should get him the win.
Big Danger: 5 Karlovasi (Bet Now: $8.00) will appreciate the drop in grade after just looking out of his league last time out in the Spring Stakes behind Beirut. This looks more his level, he’ll press forward and he is a tough nut to get past. He’ll take some catching.
Roughie: 12 Pepper The Pin (Bet Now: $13.00) tried his heart out in just about every start for the Macdonald/Gluyas stable last prep but he couldn’t quite crack it for a win. He comes here with no trials under the belt, so fitness levels are the query, and stable is out of form at the moment, but this horse can sprint well fresh.

Race Seven (16:48) : UBET Penny Edition Stakes 1400m:
Back Me: 14 Cavaloce (Bet Now: $11.00) has been a revelation since joining the Will Clarken yard. She scored two brilliant wins to kick off the prep before being well backed in the Spring Stakes where she was completely luckless behind Beirut in what wasn’t the best steer from Jamie Kah. She loves racing on the Parks track and with better luck this time out, along with an extra furlong, she’ll take some beating.
Big Danger: 2 Mighty Like (Bet Now: $9.00) scored a dominant win down the straight over 1000m at Flemington before going to the Auries Star (1200m) there where he closed off nicely late behind Sooboog. Clearly looking for 1400m which he gets here, he’ll be at peak fitness and stable rarely travel without success.
Roughie: 10 Decircles (Bet Now: $26.00) resumed over 1400m here a month back and did a pretty good job I thought when running fourth to Cavaloce, who was luckless in the Spring Stakes a couple of weeks back. Race Eight (17:27) : Better Loosen Up Memorial Handicap (64) 1400m:
Back Me: 7 Kryptonian (Bet Now: $5.50) for me here. His two runs this time in haven’t really been all the flash, but I do remember him looking very sharp the jump outs and this is a considerable drop in depth. And you look at the race name…David Hayes would love to win this.
Big Danger: 13 Magnus Magic (Bet Now: $7.50) ran at the midweeks here a tick over three weeks back and closed off strongly late when second to One More Daisy. She’ll appreciate the step up in trip and looms as a definite threat, especially with Holder sticking with the mare.
Roughie: 9 Grand Armada (Bet Now: $13.00) ran on the course proper over the mile a few weeks ago where he looked a little unlucky I thought behind Blue Viper given he got held up a touch at stages in the straight when appearing to have something to offer. Been given a little break from that outing and though his record on the track is poor, gee I think he’ll run a cheeky race at odds.
