View tomorrow’s Listed Clamms Seafood Cup’s runner by runner preview including tips and comments at Caulfield racecourse on Blue Diamond Stakes day.
1. Scenic Shot
Top class horse who looks to be on target for the Australian Cup. Forget he went around the other day. He was caught wide and the on pace bias was electric that day so to finish as close as he did was outstanding. Drawn barrier three here and he looks the standout.
2. Above Average
Ran some really good races without winning last preparation. Finished third behind Harris Tweed, then second behind Precedence, sixth to Moudre and second to Macedonian in the Sandown Cup. Has won first up and this isn’t a strong race. Danger to the favourite.
3. Apprehend
Not going well enough to trouble these. The small field does help but he’d need to show drastic improvement on his last start.
4. Ajhar
Was ok first up behind Lord Pyrus when hitting the line well from well back. He’ll get the sucker run from the barrier one and is a definite place chance.
5. Down Under Boy
Ran a really good race at Sandown behind Cedaberg after missing the kick. He had no hope after that and the pace was very slow so to finish within three lengths of the winner was a solid effort. He is certainly a threat if he gets away cleanly.
6. The Wolverine
Was pretty ordinary at Bendigo last start in an ordinary race. Rises in class, but does drop in weight. However I can’t have him here.
7. Port Veil
Hasn’t run for a month. That worries me a bit but Bossy is riding him and Boss is the king of staying races in Victoria. Look for this horse to be hitting the line hard late.
8. Vesper
Closed off nicely last Saturday behind King Diamond. He needs a firm track to show his best and he gets that here. If he wants, Nick Hall can lead here and dictate which isn’t ideal for this horse as he is best ridden cold but he is the young horse with upside and he has a very good turn of foot when circumstances allow.
