Adam Page gives us his runner by runner preview for tomorrow’s Blamey Stakes at Flemington racecourse, view his analysis, tips and selections.
1. Whobegotyou
One of Australias most popular racehorses. Ran a great second first up in the Futurity behind More Joyous. Looked a slight winning hope at the 200m but the great mare went into another gear. This should be an easy kill for him.
2. Doubtful Jack
Put the acid to King Mufhasa in the Futurity was found wanting late when tiring to finish seventh. He needs a bog track to feature, and he won’t get that here. Rule him out.
3. Extra Zero
Ran on well behind Offenders first up and although he is a second up winner, he’ll find a few of these a bit too nippy for him but look for the son of Danzero to run on late as is getting ready for the staying races.
4. Fanjura
Has a good first up record, winning two and placing in another two from five starts. The rain forecast is a worry though. If it is a dead four and nothing worse, he is a definite threat.
5. Dao Dao
Terrific run first up in the Futurity when settling midfield and hitting the line strongly at the end to grab third. He was a warm favourite in this race last year but got beat by Lord Tavistock. Drawn to get the gun run, he is the main threat to Whobegotyou.
6. Rockpecker
Just didn’t run the 1600m strongly in the Kilmore Cup after looking like the winner at the 200m. He’ll be on the speed and grinding away, but he won’t be able to hold off the big players at the end..
7. Wind Shear
The horse is going really well but I think he needs it much easier and he needs a bone dry track.
8. Spacecraft
Didn’t mind his run in the St George behind Heart Of Dreams. Battled away well to hold on to third. He is a very good horse on his day and will be there at the finish if Newitt can take care of the barrier.
9. I’m Imposing
Looks like a good type for the Melbourne Cup this year. Won like a handy horse at his Aussie debut then found the 2800m second up too daunting and finished fourth. Always respect Mt Macedon horses first up.
10. Roadtrain
A bit surprised he is running in this. Was good behind Dusty Star last start when he was run off his legs but he found the line well. He has 51kg and he is talented, but I don’t think he can threaten here.
