View our 2010 VRC Crown Oaks Day Tips & Selections
Race One:
A great days racing kicks off with the La Vie En Rose over 1800metres. The lightly raced Vesper from the Hickmott yard looks to half the class over these. The Sale Cup is looking like a good form race with 3rd placegetter Tagus winning on Tuesday. Vesper will settle just off the speed and will be the one to beat. Whilst the locally trained Cyclone Al and Viking Hero should be finishing off nicely.
Race Two:
The sprint for the mares is race 2 and the Sydney-trained mare De Lightening Ridge should go well, it took the handy Whitefriars to run her down last start and she should be right in the finish. Adelaide visitor Very Discreet should go well at nice each way odds whilst Dorf Command isn’t hopeless either.
Race Three:
Wave Dancing, from the Anthony Cummings yard is a good each way bet at $18 on TAB Sportsbet in the 3rd on the card. She’ll be out to improve on her disappointing run last start, her form around Ilovethiscity in the Group 3 Spring Stakes is good enough for this. Lalla Rookh from Adelaide must be keep close.
Race Four:
Curtana ran a cracking race at Flemington on Derby Day in the Coolmore Group 1, she’ll be the one to beat and whatever does beat her will win. Spurcific has run down the famous straight before for a close second and Dutchy’s Lass and Celts are to be respected.
Race Five:
The time-honored “Greys Race†headlines Race 5 and it looks to be a tough one. Dead End goes into the race having only the one start but that win at Moe was good enough for Dead End to command respect in this even affair. Zaira, amongst many others, is the visitor who can shake this race up as well as No Jurisdiction who will be looking to atone for its disappointing last in the much stronger Group 1 Toorak Handicap last start.
Race Six:
The 2010 Crown Oaks is the marquee event on the card and big bets have been placed on Brazilian Pulse with one punter placing a win bet of $100,000 on the Michael Moroney-trained filly. Her win on Saturday was nothing short of excellent and she is the benchmark for her rivals. Yosei and Shamrocker are in similar positions as both are coming off rare distant finishes on Saturday and should be looking to bounce back. Heartsareforlove has put in two blinding runs in strong races recently and will go forward from barrier 1 and make her own luck. Precious Lorraine ran home nicely behind Rekindled Interest in the AAMI Vase on Cox Plate Day and cannot be written off. Sasa, like Precious Lorraine ran home nicely last start and she will be prominent. Placement heads the rest and isn’t hopeless after looking a spent force last start before kicking back nicely and could surprise.
Race Seven:
Zubbaya was low flying in her very impressive win last start at Moonee Valley, the step up in distanbce shouldn’t worry her at all and she is only to miss the pacing’s once from her 7 starts. AbsolutelyAwesome is another who is very lightly raced and should be thereabouts also.
Race Eight:
Im giving Arinos one last chance here in Race 8, he is a winner of this race two years which was her last race win. He has been racing quite well without winning but this is his absolute last chance today. The old boy Royal Ida sprints well fresh and Temple Of Boom shouldn’t be disregarded.
Race Nine:
Lakedro is another to come out of the strong Sale Cup and has it positives going into the last race on Oaks Day. It was only beaten two lengths after settling in the first few. Niblick is similar to stablemate Vesper (Race 1) and is also lightly raced and will be running home strongly as will Eight Pieces.
BEST BET: RACE 6 – BRAZILIAN PULSE
EACH WAY BET: RACE 8 – ARINOS
ROUGHIE: RACE 3 – WAVE DANCING
