Everyone is talking about tomorrow’s 2010 Melbourne Cup although there are 9 other races on the day and we take a look at each individual race and list our tips and selections. If your having a bet on the day then be sure to include these Melbourne Cup day tips into your multiples.
Race 1:
The first race on the Melbourne Cup day card looks to be fairly hard race for betting, only 5 of the 16 runners have had a start although most of the field has had open trials. These races usually allow punters to search for a bit of value and we like to base our tips on trainers, jockeys and breeding of the horses. Haraka Sana is a well bred filly out of Encosta De Lago that cost $300k at the NZ Premier Yearling sale, she jumps from barrier 16 but experienced jockey Dwayne Dunn (who has ridden a few of the other horses and jumps off them to ride her) should be able to get her forward into a prominent position.
Selections:
Haraka Sana
Dinner Date
Miss Holyfield
Manor Lady
Race 2:
The second on the card also looks to be a relatively hard race to dissect, there are 20 horses in the field and most seem to have a realistic chance of winning the race in what looks to be an overall average field. I have been on Casual Friday at odds in his previous runs in harder company and i liked his last run at Moonee Valley i will be sticking with him at good odds of $16. Dangers look to be Starmon, Aloha and Status Quo
Selections:
Casual Friday
Starmon
Aloha
Status Quo
Race 3:
Is a staying race over 2800m the field looks to be relatively good with a lot of the runners looking to increase their staying ranks for next years cups, I’m Imposing gets into the race very well weighted dropping 3.5KG’s from his last race and the field looks to be around the same quality. He looks to be the horse to beat in the field although dangers are Macedonian, Niptious and Zauberin
Selections:
I’m Imposing
Niptious
Macedonian
Zauberin
Race 4:
The fourth for the day looks to be a very competitive race with quite a few decent Mares lining up, there are a couple of runners we like in the race although my top selection would be Little Surfer Girl who is having her first start in Victoria and her first up form is very good winning 1 from 4 and placing twice. My second selection is Valentine Miss i was impressed with her run at Caulfield behind Avenue in what was a leaders track she made good ground after being checked around the turn. Dangers to these two runners are Flying Tessie who won her last year and Jersey Lilly.
Selections:
Little Surfer Girl
Valentine Miss
Jersey Lilly
Flying Tessie
Race 5:
The fifth for the day is a 1000m sprint for the 3 year olds and again looks to be another tough race to match up the form lines, i really liked the run of Trudeau in June but he then came out and failed in his next start over 1200m. He drops back to his prefered distance and should be very hard to catch. Dangers are Stirling Grove, Sleepers and first starter Season Of Fortune.
Selections:
Trudeau
Sleepers
Stirling Grove
Season Of Fortune
Race 6:
The race before the Melbourne Cup is for 3YO fillies over 1400m, this years field looks to be relatively strong with some good form lines coming out of decent races on Caulfield Cup and Cox Plate day. One i particularly like though is having her first start in Victoria, Palomares has been racing very well at Canterbury and the three year old form from Sydney has been very good plus she drops 6KG’s from her previous run. Has to overcome barrier 16 which could be an issue but if McKevoy can give her a decent run during the race she should be right in the finish. Dangers areรย Jesse’s Girl, Alotta Spur and Follonica.
Selections:
Palomares
Follonica
Jesse’s Girl
Alotta Spur
Race 7:
The seventh on the card is the Emirates Melbourne Cup and for many the only race they will bet on for the day, Andrew has done a full preview for the race with his tips here:
2010 Melbourne Cup Tips & Selections although i will submit my tips for the race as well. So You Think looks to be very hard to beat, there were concerns from punters after his Cox Plate win whether or not he will be able to settle during the race which will be a huge step up in distance for him although on Saturday he answered his critics by settling well and kicking strongly to win easily in the Mackinnon Stakes. Bart has won 12 Melbourne Cup’s before so he knows how to win them and should have So You Think settling well during the race, he just keeps getting better and better and he is definitely the horse to beat. Dangers are Shocking, Descarado and Bauer.
Selections:
So You Think
Descarado
Shocking
Bauer
Race 8:
The eighth race for the day usually seems rather lackluster as many people are still talking about the running of the Melbourne Cup although the field is quite good this year with quite a few runners coming out of country cups. I quite like Leica Larrikin in the race, trainer Richard Freyer has had the horse set for this race and he is very well rated after running close to Captain Sonador in the Epsom early last month and should be hard to beat. Dangers are Our Lukas, Snow Alert and Hidden Wonder.
Selections:
Leica Larrikin
Hidden Wonder
Our Lukas
Snow Alert
Race 9:
The second last race for the day is a sprint over 1200m in another open race with a full field of runners, my top selection for the race is True Persuasion should find this race much easier after runs against Black Caviar and Hay List in his previous two starts. Drops 2KG’s in weight and should be right in the finish. Dangers are Perturbo, Anavalanche and Trim.
Selections:
True Persuasion
Anavalanche
Trim
Perturbo
Race 10:
The tenth and last race for Melbourne Cup day is over 1400m, there are two horses in the race i like although im going to rate Launay on top due to drawing a much better barrier (5) than my second elect Lady Gaga (20) i think both horses will finish the race of strongly and both be in the mix. Dangers are Balavan and Change Upacog.
Selections:
Launay
Lady Gaga
Balavan
Change Upacog
