Race 1. (13:00) Klosters 90 Years Plate (C1) 1850m
1 City Gold Ready (Bet Now: $2.30) might want one more and 2000m+ but he does look to have a bit of quality on his side and I’ll bank on that getting him home here. Former Kiwi who brought over Orchestral form before making his Australian debut over 1500m here and I thought closed his race off quite well in defeat behind the very much in form Northern Eyes. Fitter, up in trip, with class…takes beating for me.
11 Blazing Sword (Bet Now: $3.70) gets the Blinkers first time and has good upside to come I say for the Neasham/Archibald camp. He ran over 1800m at Hawkesbury last time when off speed and loomed large to win when presented but couldn’t quite get there when second to Noises. Blinkers on to sharpen him up, he appeals.
6 Lady Gold (Bet Now: $6.50) is racing well without winning at the moment for Terry Croft. This mare has finished runner up her past two, both over the mile at Wyong, the latest on Sep 1 when narrowly beaten by Line Of Fire, with a big gap to the rest. Gets in well after the claim, she is a knockout hope.
Race 2. (13:35) New Era Technology Hurricane (Bm78) 900m
2 Outishka (Bet Now: $3.00) is a Scott Singleton trained mare that is quite dynamic at the short course and does appear really well suited here. Great track/distance record and is a short course specialist having won over 950m at Moree last time, sitting on speed and was far too good. Will press forward and take beating.
6 Smart And Dapper (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Brett Thompson trained gelding that resumes, having not raced since the Summer, winning two on the bounce, firstly a Highway here before a dominant all the way triumph over 1200m here. 900m is on the short side but has trialled well and strikes a race where the depth isn’t overly deep.
8 Leave Me Some (Bet Now: $15.00) has home track advantage and she’ll be strong late. She ran second to Deep Rouge at Tamworth in the race mentioned above, finishing strongly from off the speed but found one better. Likely gets dragged back to last but should launch at them late.
Race 3. (14:10) Gateshead Traffic Control Mdn Hcp 1400m
1 Extreme Diva (Bet Now: $6.00) has these on toast re class and that is why she is carrying the weight. She comes through the San Domenico where she was outclassed and run off her legs, finishing last behind Storm Boy. Like her up in trip, drops miles in grade/depth, kind map…she should be too good.
8 Shes Wondering (Bet Now: $26.00) should appreciate a step up in trip for Chris Waller. She debuted over 1250m here where she got back to near last in the run and made up some ground without threatening behind Emilia Jane. Like her up in trip, she’ll be strong late and has good upside vs most engaged here.
5 Alice Mae (Bet Now: $9.00) hasn’t been too bad in two runs back from a spell for Angela Davies. This girl ran third in the Emilia Jane race mentioned above, getting off speed and worked home with purpose in a good effort, much like she did first up when just missing out on the win. Commands respect.
Race 4. (14:50) Bass Floor Newcastle Mdn Hcp 1400m
4 Rolling Magic (Bet Now: $4.80) seems the straight bat play for Team Freedman. This gelding resumed over 1250m here when off speed and kept chasing, closing off with purpose in a good return when second to Magic Shadow. Fitter and up in trip, kind map, he’ll take beating against these.
1 Top Secret (Bet Now: $5.50) is a son of Dundeel for GaiBott that is on debut. He’s had a couple of trials to get ready for start one and each time has been pretty good, winning the first trial before placing at Randwick over 1050m. Drawn wide but should press forward and 1400m on debut signals intent for mine.
12 Counterpart (Bet Now: $11.00) is an interesting runner. He resumes for Ryan/Alexiou as a gelding after showing promise as a juvenile, including a run behind Linebacker. Couple of trials have been encouraging and does seem to strike a maiden where the depth isn’t overly deep.
Race 5. (15:25) Tibbie Stakes 1400m
1 Roots (Bet Now: $5.50) is the class runner and I’ll bank on that class getting her home. She resumes for Chris Waller, having not raced since the Tatts Tiara when far from disgraced in defeat behind the best horse in Australia IMO, Bella Nipotina. Flies fresh, moved well in a recent trial and she gets J Mac on.
5 Terra Mater (Bet Now: $3.30) comes here in winning form after taking out a key lead, the Mona Lisa at Wyong. She was given a 12/10 by Nash and in a driving go, she just got there. 1400m is fine, Nash sticks and with fitness on her side, she commands respect as one of the key prospects.
11 City Of Lights (Bet Now: $10.00) is a daughter of Deep Impact for Joe Pride that resumes. This girl showed promise in the Autumn, including a sneaky good run in the Aspiration. Three trials signals good intent from Joe Pride IMO and although she’ll be spotting them a start, she should be strong at the end.
Race 6. (16:05) Newcastle Gold Cup 2300m
I think you have to give 9 Etna Rosso (Bet Now: $3.40) another look. Was keen on him in the Wyong Cup but the race shape and the tight track worked against him I thought so forgive and forget the run behind Lion’s Roar. Similar profile to Durston from a couple of years ago and down in the weights, more genuine tempo, he will be hard to hold out.
4 Touristic (Bet Now: $4.80) should take beating here for Peter Snowden. He was game in defeat two back in the Grafton Cup before going to Randwick off a freshen up. He loomed to beat Eliyass but just found that quality mare a touch too good, but gapped the rest. 2300m should be fine and with the way he’s racing, he takes beating.
7 Think N Fly (Bet Now: $SP.00) will jump on the bunny and give cheek at odds. He was on speed in the City Tatts Cup last time and although held late by Redstone Well, he stuck on and was pretty good in defeat. He’ll likely lead this field up and if the track plays up/in, he’s dangerous for sure.
Race 7. (16:40) Cameron Hcp 1500m
I think the market did miss 3 Berkshire Shadow (Bet Now: $11.00) obviously and it’s slowly catching up. His run first up behind Ceowulf at Rosehill three weeks ago was a beauty, getting badly held up but loved the way he closed. Australian Bloodstock horse, they love to flex on their hometown Cup Day and this looks a complete set up, especially with J Mac on.
12 Matcha Latte (Bet Now: $9.00) I am very interested in. Sara Ryan trains this five year old, who has promised to do a fair bit throughout his career but hasn’t quite gone on with it. That said, he is first up here and I thought his recent trial work has been very sharp, so keen to see how he goes.
9 Robusto (Bet Now: $12.00) is an interesting runner. Formerly with Chris Waller, he now finds himself with Bjorn Baker, having not raced since the Rowley Mile when far from disgraced in defeat behind Cepheus. Back slightly in trip with a soft draw, his best is good enough to be dangerous.
Race 8. (17:20) New Zealand Bloodstock (Bm64) 1500m
10 Irish Kisses (Bet Now: $4.50) will put herself on speed and take running down at a likely decent price. This mare attempted to lead throughout last Wednesday on the Kenso and gave a decent sight from the front but couldn’t quite see it through when a close up fourth to Makena. If she leads and gets some form of control, she takes running down.
4 Cormac T (Bet Now: $3.60) is a son of Nathaniel that resumes for the Neasham/Archibald camp. This guy is first up, having not raced since April 9 at Kembla when winning impressively over 2000m, finishing best on the wet track. He has looked pretty good in a couple of trials and finds a race where the depth isn’t deep.
2 Cheval Savant (Bet Now: $16.00) is a Ciaron Maher trained gelding that resumes. This guy is first up, having not raced since April 6 at Caulfield over 2000m when producing an end of prep run, finishing down the track behind stablemate Desperado. Liked his recent Warwick Farm trial and does bring city form.
