The Parks track at Morphettville is where SA metro racing takes place on Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out nine metres from the 1000m-Winning Post; Out six metres for the remainder.
Race 1. (13:01) Zilzie (bm86) 2400m
3 Stan The Caddy (Bet Now: $1.90) can be a hard horse to follow with confidence but if you trust what he produced two weeks ago at this track/distance, then you can bet with confidence. It was a dominant win from on speed and was strong to the line in getting the job done. Was 1800m to 2400m there as well, so you’d like to think there is improvement.
4 Ourkhani (Bet Now: $4.00) is knocking on the door to win one for the Jolly camp. Looked like it would come three weeks ago at Murray Bridge but he had to settle for a second, beaten a lip in a blanket finish. Doesn’t win out of turn but that can be said about most engaged here, so he commands respect.
1 Exalted Craftsman (Bet Now: $7.00) is back on track I feel. First two runs to start the prep were so so, but he got out to a more suitable trip a fortnight back and was good in defeat when a closing second to Stand The Caddy. He still has improvement to come and rates highly against this lot.
Race 2. (13:36) Degrees South Beef (bm82) 1250m
Looks a winnable race for the Mark Webb trained gelding 2 Designer Chef (Bet Now: $5.50). He comes through the Sale Sprint where he found them a bit sharp but was far from disgraced in defeat behind an in form Open Minded. Like him with fresh legs and is generally around the mark at this level.
5 Triton Rising (Bet Now: $2.40) is an interesting runner. Formerly with the Hayes/Dabernig team, he now finds himself with Michael Hickmott. He raced over 1400m at Sandown a few weeks ago and worked to the line pretty well in defeat I thought behind Merchant Of Venice. Stable should always be respected, especially with a cast off.
1 Tequila Time (Bet Now: $4.20) is racing well for the Macdonald/Gluyas team. Three weeks between runs since racing at Murray Bridge where he didn’t stop chasing but was held on the line when second to Second Slip, who ran well in the Matrice last Monday, so the form reads well and he does like the Parks track.
Race 3. (14:16) Barossa Fine Foods (bm76) 1550m
3 Don’tdreamit’sover (Bet Now: $3.40) is a progressive galloper for Michael Hickmott that is hard to beat here. Has been kept on the fresh side, having not raced since the Birthday Cup on Feb 6 when far from disgraced in defeat behind Declares War. Looked strong in a recent tick over jumpout and this race is very winnable if he’s right.
7 Heir Of Tavistock (Bet Now: $7.00) is racing so well at the moment for Richard Wilson. Racing so consistently and is putting together a very good record on the Parks track. That was the case when winning here two weeks ago. Showed good fight on speed to fend them off and get the job done again. Harder here, but hard to knock the way he’s going.
6 Exalted Traveller (Bet Now: $9.00) is much better suited at this level. He overachieved in the CS Hayes Cup last Monday. He was helped by av even tempo but that aside, he stuck on very well when fourth to a potential Group l horse IMO in Ironclad. Back to this sort of grade, he appeals as a winning threat.
Race 4. (14:56) Adelaide Galvanising (bm68) 1250m
1 Outlaws Revenge (Bet Now: $2.10) looks an exciting prospect for Ryan Balfour and see no reason why he can’t keep winning. Brought fresh legs three weeks ago at Murray Bridge and the market was going to be the guide as to how he was going. $2.40 into even money suggested he was ready to go and despite sitting wide throughout, he had panels on that lot. Can only see improvement off that and is clearly the one to beat.
Fitter and up in trip I do like for 3 Bottom Line (Bet Now: $4.80). Resumed over 1200m at Murray Bridge a few weeks ago where he was back off the speed and spotted those in front a tidy start, but liked the way he finished his race off when second to Outlaws Revenge. Is proven at this track and has upside to come.
6 Cool Magnum (Bet Now: $34.00) is a progressive three year old for John Hickmott. Looked his race last Wednesday at Naracoorte. Just a matter of getting clear air and once he got it, he showed really good change up speed and was strong in winning. Harder here, but stable is having a good run at the moment.
Race 5. (15:36) Furphy (bm68) 1000m
I think 6 Just Chipping Away (Bet Now: $16.00) is a great gamble, hopefully at decent odds. Resumed on the course proper here last Monday and just forget she went around. Was back near last in the run from the wide gate and just couldn’t get involved. Better suited here and if she can use the inside gate to advantage, think she’ll only run well.
7 Larkham (Bet Now: $3.30) has returned in good order for Ryan Balfour. Very sharp first up winner on the course proper before racing at this track/distance two weeks ago where he had to do a power of work in chasing a fast speed but stayed on and was a definite pass mark behind Appalachian. Hard to beat if he holds his form.
8 Centrefield (Bet Now: $5.00) deserves a crack in town. Robert King has his mare absolutely flying at Port Lincoln at the moment, winning 2/2 this prep, bot coming at that track over 1000m and 1200m respectively. Pannell rode last time out and he sticks for this, which could well be a decent enough lead.
Race 6. (16:21) Accolade Wines Hcp (c2) 1000m
3 Ocean Reward (Bet Now: $5.00) is racing really well this time in for Mark Webb. He ran on the course proper here several weeks back and chased strongly from off the speed, just failing to get the job done when a close up third to Lope De Wolf. Hard to knock the way he’s racing and how genuine he is at the moment.
Keen to see how 9 Chill With Teejay (Bet Now: $7.50) goes. Peter Hardacre trained filly that had trialled up well prior to resuming in a maiden here several weeks back. Sat back off the speed before Zechner eased her wider and she finished off strongly to win and win well. On times, she needs to improve, but think she has scope.
Market will be interesting with 2 Hypersonic (Bet Now: $5.50). He was kept hard in the market when resuming last Monday on the course proper here, and to my eye, I thought he had every chance behind Viduka and was plain late. Depth here is nowhere near as strong…but how well is he going? We’ll find out for sure one way or another here.
Race 7. (17:01) Tab (bm68) 1250m
Each way, don’t think you can go wrong backing 3 Bolt I Am (Bet Now: $10.00). The Viduka race from last Monday looks the key form reference for this and I didn’t mind the way this guy finished his race off from a fair way back in the run. If he can sit closer in the run, he’ll take some holding out late.
6 Midnight Storm (Bet Now: $3.20) is bursting to win a race for the Macdonald/Gluyas camp. He was brave in defeat last Monday. Wide no cover for the trip yet kept finding and got close to beating Viduka. He keeps finding one or two better, but is racing well without winning. That could well change here.
4 Call Me Curtis (Bet Now: $13.00) is a beauty for Craig Curtis that will put himself on speed and try hard. That was the case last Monday on the course proper here. Attempted to lead throughout but just felt the pinch late when a close up fourth to Viduka. Better suited on the Parks track and can take this out.
Race 8. (17:36) Autumn Carnival May 1-15-bm68 1950m
4 Kyshaka… (Bet Now: $5.50) you bludger. Been on her back a number of times, dropped off last start and the end result was a spanking of her rivals at Murray Bridge. The race was set up for her, but she was dominant in the run to the line, and off that effort, the 1950m here should be no issue.
Mick Huxtable has 3 Master Of Zerprise (Bet Now: $4.60) in a real purple patch at the moment. He has won four of his past five with a narrow second in between. Loved the way he knuckled down to win at Murray Bridge last time. Looked in trouble, but he surged hard when it counted to get up and win. Has to be respected against these.
7 Monteferrante (Bet Now: $11.00) isn’t one of mine but her best is more than good enough to measure up. Ran over 2400m at Sandown last time out and probably found the class of race a bit rich but far from disgraced behind a very much in form Aurora’s Symphony. Better suited here and is a leading chance.
Race 9. (18:11) Dominant (bm60) 1400m
18 Elope To Vegas (Bet Now: $14.00) is racing well for the Jolly camp. Ran over 1200m at Murray Bridge a few weeks ago where he just got too far back in the run and was never a winning factor but his finale was more than sound in defeat behind surprise winner Justica. If he’s within range on the turn, he’s certainly good enough.
The gate isn’t ideal for 2 Neodium (Bet Now: $3.10) but he has to be hard to beat on current form. Ran over this track/distance two weeks ago in an identical race. Led them up and yes, fence in run/on speed was red hot, but he still bolted in and was impressive. With the 3kg apprentice, I dare say it’ll be handle bars down from the wide gate.
16 Mavette (Bet Now: $9.50) is racing in a real purple patch for John Hickmott and I think can run well against these. He has won his past two, winning two back over 1550m here before going to the mile at Murray Bridge when on speed and gee he was strong to the line in getting the job done. He’ll put himself near the front and try hard.
