A bumper nine race card has been set down for the Sunny Coast on Saturday for Swiss Ace Plate Day. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.
Race 1. (13:03) Archer Park Racing Hcp 1000m
8 Honey Pot (Bet Now:Β $1.70) for me in the opener. Tony Gollan trained filly that is on debut off the back of one trial, which saw her bolt up over 650m at Deagon in fast time. Tricky draw to overcome, but I think has the early speed to get across and overall, this isn’t a strong 2YO race.
4 Sneaky Starter (Bet Now:Β $8.50) commands respect. Daughter of Press Statement for Mick Mair that was a sharp debut winner at this track/distance. Time was nothing to jump up and down about, but she was dominant and strong at the end. Has that fitness/experience under the belt and is trained here.
7 Gerrymaner (Bet Now:Β $15.00) is another with home track advantage, much like Sneaky Starter. This filly debuts for Stuart Kendrick off one trial here, which was over 850m, and she went about her business nicely I thought when second. Gets Ben Thompson to steer and maps okay from the gate.
Race 2. (13:38) Flash Fibres High Speed-rs0mw 1000m
1 Ramtastic (Bet Now:Β $15.00) is still listed as ‘Spelling’ on Racing Australia, so the guessing game is strong with this horse given he is accepted here and resumes without a trial. But he does have a class edge and is the proven Saturday performer against most of these, who are mostly North Queensland sprinters. He flies fresh and will be strong late.
9 Xerri (Bet Now:Β $4.40) has the talent to take this out but he is hard to trust from a betting perspective. Looked prep right up for a first up win fresh over 900m at the Gold Coast with three trials under the belt but he could only manage third in a field of five. His best is good enough. Rather see him do it than back him to do it.
3 Already Blessed (Bet Now:Β $9.50) is officially with Tony Gollan but you could say he has been with the horse for two runs, the latest coming two weeks back when down the track behind Tycoon Evie. That was a hot race, which clearly reads well for this, and the speed in front will suit.
Race 3. (14:13) Krew Racing Plate (c3) 1800m
11 Quiet Michael (Bet Now:Β $6.50) should love the rise to 1800m. Chris Waller trained four year old that ran over the mile at Eagle Farm three weeks back. Got a mile out of his ground and spotted those in front too much head start but loved the way he closed off, looking like a horse that wants more ground, which he gets here, and has more upside than most.
6 Karlstad (Bet Now:Β $2.35) has found winning form and he can certainly go on with it. He was backed with confidence on Cup Day at Eagle Farm and the bets were landed, proving very strong late and drawing clear to win impressively. Now he’s found winning form, he can hold it.
10 Northern Woods (Bet Now:Β $14.00) should be suited up in trip and is in with a shout. Chris Munce trains this five year old. Not sure Ipswich was to his liking last time, but liked the way he finished his race off behind Dream Song, running second. Extra trip no issue, and though harder here, is a knockout chance.
Race 4. (14:48) Kendrick Racing Qlty 1600m
6 Caboche (Bet Now:Β $3.30) is heading in the right direction for Chris Waller and he can win again. First run in Queensland came on Cup Day at Eagle Farm in a maiden where he was odds on and duly saluted, bolting up and giving his rivals a spanking. He’s got upside to come and is clearly the one to beat.
The query with 7 Our Red Planet (Bet Now:Β $13.00) is can he repeat the dose from two weeks ago. Ripping run at Eagle Farm I thought when a closing second to impressive winner Rayjen, beaten 1.25L but safely held the rest. That looks strong from for this. Just needs to hold it to be hard to beat.
2 Sergeant Silva (Bet Now:Β $26.00) should be suited up in trip for Rob Heathcoate. He was freshened up when racing over 1400m at Eagle Farm two weeks ago and just looked like he needed the run behind Rayjen. Proven performer at this trip at this level and should improve from that effort.
Race 5. (15:28) Innovative Plan Solutions-bm75 1400m
Natalie McCall is near unbeatable when racing on her home track at Sunshine Coast (near 20%), so with that, I’m with her i form mare 15 Maestoso (Bet Now:Β $6.00). Her last two starts have resulted in wins here, the latest being a couple of Sundays back when lumping 59.5kg and making a mess of them. Tumbles in weight, soft gate to use…she’ll do me.
4 Darleb (Bet Now:Β $3.90) looks the main threat. He ran two weeks ago at Wyong in a heat of the Provincial Series and closed off strongly when second to Oxford Tycoon, a proven Saturday performer in Sydney, so the form reads well, and I think up to 1400m on the bigger track, he only runs well.
9 Hallowed Girl (Bet Now:Β $23.00) looks back on track. Jury was out early on in the prep but she ran a super race two weeks back at Eagle Farm, just missing out on the win when a narrow second to Nicci’s Spirit. If she can sit a pair or two closer in the run, she’ll take beating.
Race 6. (16:08) Travis Schultz & Partners Hcp 1000m
2 Glorious Ruby (Bet Now:Β $8.00) is a ripper for Bryan Dais. Market wanted to be with her late when racing several weeks ago and under a lovely steer from just off the speed under Wilson-Taylor, class came to the fore and she was too good for them. She seems quite effective at 1000m so no reason why she can’t win again.
3 Stellar Magic (Bet Now:Β $6.00) is a quality filly for the O’Dea/Hosyted camp that looks the one to beat. Very notable betting drift with her three weeks ago at Eagle Farm as the support came for Refero but the filly showed her class, letting down hard late out wide to nail them. She’s got room for improvement and should prove tough to hold out.
4 Oriental Princess… (Bet Now:Β $27.00) where on earth did the first up win come from? Unwanted in betting when resuming over 1100m against some well performed types, but credit to her, she led throughout, was strong late and fended off her rivals. Off that, you’d think 1200m is fine. Question is can she repeat the dose?
Race 7. (16:48) Swiss Ace Plate 1000m
9 Garibaldi (Bet Now:Β $8.50) is a talented animal for Tony Gollan that resumes. This guy was a real tease during the Brisbane Winter where he threatened to be a Stradbroke contender but couldn’t quite get to that level. He usually improves with the run under the belt, but the Eagle Farm trial was a good piece of work, so keen to see how he goes.
2 Zoustyle (Bet Now:Β $2.10) is such a fascinating runner. If he brings his best, he can blow this field away. That is the question though. How well is he going? Hasn’t raced in over 12 months but looked very sharp in a recent trial, which is to be expected for a horse of his quality. Market will be the guide.
5 Niedorp (Bet Now:Β $41.00) is a quality mare for Tony Gollan and I think she can resume a winner. Hasn’t raced since the Gai Waterhouse at Ipswich in June when a tired horse, and 1350m isn’t her trip at all when down the track behind Intrepidacious. Looks to have trialled up well at Deagon to get ready, she flies fresh…last bit will test, but she has the right racing pattern.
Race 8. (17:28) Mooloolaba Cup 1600m
1 Ligulate (Bet Now:Β $2.45) picks himself here. Market wanted to take a set against him two weeks ago at Eagle Far, but nobody told the horse that. He was bolting in the run and it was just a matter of Mallyon pushing the button. Once he did, it was race over. Fitter, up to the mile, he wins barring bad luck.
10 Tokoriki Lad (Bet Now:Β $6.00) should appreciate the rise to the mile. Just lost sight of the compass at Eagle Farm last time but was good late when second to Ligulate. He was 1600m back to 1500m that afternoon so back up to the mile, I think he can run another positive race.
Dismissing David Vandyke runners on his home track here is fraught with danger so I’m not penning 6 Cloak (Bet Now:Β $21.00). Just a run from him fresh four weeks back at Doomben but I think that was more or less a prep run for this race. Good second up record, upside to come, his best is good enough.
Race 9. (18:12) Landmark Resort & Spa Hcp (c6) 1200m
What a fabulous job Jake Capewell has done with 6 Sir Warwick (Bet Now:Β $3.30). 4/4 this time in and no reason why he can’t make it five straight. Latest start/win was four weeks ago when on speed over 1350m at Doomben and he just kept finding, drawing clear to win impressively. Back to 1200m no issue, good racing style, in form…he’ll do me.
1 Gee Tee Tee (Bet Now:Β $6.00) is a quality animal for the O’Dea/Hoysted camp that resumes and I think he can resume a winner. He saves his best for the Sunny Coast and comes here first up after a mixed Winter prep, where he threatened to be Stakes class but just didn’t progress well enough from the previous prep. Good fresh record and his fab track stats ensures he’s hard to beat.
10 East Asia (Bet Now:Β $9.50) is a Rob Heathcoate trained mare that resumes. This girl is first up, having not raced since ending her Winter prep on a high with a couple of wins. Love horses that go for a spell on a high because they usually come back and hold their form, so keen to see how she goes.
