20/10/2018 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Doomben

A bumper ten race card has been assembled for Doomben this Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is soft (7) and the rail is out half a metre for the entire circuit.

1 Guntantes (Bet Now: $1.90) should be winning. Rob Heathcoate trains this colt, who looked a good thing when he debuted here a fortnight back and he won accordingly under Larry Cassidy, increasing the margin as the race went on, so the extra 60m should be no issue, he’s got the race experience and should have natural upside.

6 Buckets Of Pride (Bet Now: $6.00) looks the only threat. Chris Munce trains this filly, who debuted two weeks ago in the fillies 2YO race and she was enormous after being tardy away, flashing home to just miss out on picking up Courseshewill. Just has to jump cleanly and she’ll be right in the game for sure.

3 Pocket PIstol (Bet Now: $26.00) is a Kelly Schweida trained colt on debut. This son of Exceed And Excel ran behind Guntantes in a trial and while he was held, he wasn’t asked to do much and to my eye looked to move pretty good. Race day is a whole different beast but that form does read well so keen to see what he does.

1 Oradonna (Bet Now: $3.70) on top but it’s a tough race. Lindsay Gough trains this mare, who ran over 1200m here a fortnight back where he was on speed under Michael Murphy and gave a decent enough kick but couldn’t quite finish it off behind Hingus Rose. Back to 1050m and back to mares grade, she’ll take beating.

7 Our Beebee (Bet Now: $4.20) is a daughter of Red Dazzler resuming for the Rex Lipp stable. During her 3YO season, this girl was a proper blacktype class horse but as time has passed, so has most of her talent it seems. Back to this level now but if she brought anything of her old form, she’d win. Good fresh record too so watch the market.

6 Mishani Electra (Bet Now: $5.50) is a talented mare for Ben Currie that resumes. This girl hasn’t raced since the Winter Carnival at Ipswich where she ran down the track behind Envy Of All and did seem quite a tired horse by then. Been given a decent enough break and is 2/2 on heavy ground, and should get over comfortably from the gate.

Hoping it’ll be a jump/run scenario for 11 Bella Occhi (Bet Now: $4.80), a Ben Currie trained mare who has placed in both runs this time in, the latest over 1000m at Toowoomba where she loomed large to win but couldn’t quite finish it off. Blinkers on to sharpen her up and senior jock back on. Very likeable.

6 Umberto (Bet Now: $5.50) is a Tony Gollan trained gelding who bounced back to winning form last time out at Ipswich, doing work to find the front and despite getting the staggers late, he clung on. He should get every chance from the inside gate and being by Not A Single Doubt, he should be fine on wet ground.

12 Paper Trade (Bet Now: $6.50) could be a knockout. Les Ross trains this gelding, who comes here off the back of an eye catching effort at the Ipswich midweeks where he was tardy, wide, but did a huge job to get as close as he did to the well supported All Important. Good record on wet ground. Just has to overcome the tricky draw.

No idea what to do here. For the sake of a tip I’ll go down the bottom with 15 Mister Spinks (Bet Now: $21.00), a Kevin Kemp trained gelding who has only won the one race, but he’s quite a consistent type who isn’t far away, and that was the case last time at the Sunny Coast when a narrow third to the above average Stanley Park. Soft gate and on the minimum.

Very interested to see what 9 Femme Fireball (Bet Now: $4.00) does fresh. She’s a quality mare for Rob Heathcoate who is first up after a somewhat disappointing Winter prep where she contested several Stakes races and ran okay but for the most part didn’t measure up. Drops a mile in grade here and has looked sharp in a couple of trial wins.

5 Masterati (Bet Now: $6.50) is a Steve O’Dea trained gelding who had his first run for the stable at the Sunny Coast last time where he settled near the speed and fought on quite well in defeat behind a handy type in Divine Dice. Bit of an unknown on wet ground, but relatively weighted well and has gate one.

The upside here lies with 3 Dream Finnish (Bet Now: $7.50) for Michael Nolan. This mare comes through the Niccanova race from a fortnight back and while he was well held, she was far from disgraced. Has the upside with him, a good gate and the wet track is no issue. I think each way, you can’t go wrong backing her.

4 Fortensky (Bet Now: $3.40) is three weeks between runs for the Chris Waller team since racing at this track/distance where he got well back off the pace but worked home well enough in defeat behind Courtza King. He’s starting to get hard fit now and he won’t mind a track with give in it. Certainly right in the game.

2 Courtza King (Bet Now: $3.20) looks a key threat. Tony Gollan has this bloke racing in near career best form at the moment, his latest start resulting in a dominant win at this track/distance three weeks back, though the time was slow relative to the day. Off that, can’t see him winning, but times aren’t everything and he’s in winning form. They look the main three.

1 Impavido (Bet Now: $5.50) is backing up for his third race in four weeks. Brilliant steer by Lloyd got him home two back before racing here a fortnight back and just failing to finish it off when second to Monaco Snob. Hard fit horse and the overall depth isn’t as strong, and I think back to 2000m is a big tick for him.

11 Galtero (Bet Now: $3.30) is 3/3 this time in for Tony Gollan and I think he can remain unbeaten this prep. Was confidently supported when racing over the mile here last time and despite being the first under pressure, he was strongest at the end and was impressive. Bit harder here I think but still, has to be respected.

6 Monaco Snob (Bet Now: $6.50) is a horse in ripping form for Rob Heathcoate and continues to build the picket fence next to his name. Didn’t think he’d get there last time over 2200m here but he kept surging and eventually got there in the last couple of strides. Back to 2000m the little query but hard to knock the way he’s going.

Back in trip is the negative but overall, 1 Freddie Fox Trot (Bet Now: $3.80) is clearly the best horse in the race and have to be with him. He ran over 1200m on his home track at the Gold Coast last time where he started Winx odds and won accordingly. Back to city grade now, he can continue his winning ways despite coming back in trip.

10 I’ve Gotta Nel (Bet Now: $3.20) is a Barry Lockwood trained gelding who was confidently backed when having his first run for the new stable three weeks back at this track/distance and he looked home, but Bold Chance put a dive in and nabbed him on the peg. Unbeaten second up, he definitely appeals given he’s a pure sprinter.

8 Truculent (Bet Now: $41.00) lacks the class of a few of these, but he’s a sprinter and the stable is going pretty well at the moment. He ran in a solid sprint race on his home track at the Sunny Coast last time and was far from disgraced for mine behind Kievann. That was 1200m, so back to 1050m here looks an ideal set up.

This is a fair dinkum dart board job. 7 Korodon (Bet Now: $6.00) looks the one though on the up. Chris Waller trains this gelding, who was well supported when racing at the Gold Coast midweeks last time and it was initiative from Lloyd that won the race. Led all the way, dictated and kicked hard when challenged. Wet track should be fine.

4 Straight Home (Bet Now: $4.80) is a handy looking gelding for David Joice, who was solid in betting when resuming over 1400m on his home track at the Gold Coast last time where he led all the way and I thought his win was pretty good considering he was fresh over an unsuitable trip. Up to the mile with the claim, he’ll be a threat.

I don’t think you can go wrong backing 12 Sweet Adaline (Bet Now: $6.00) each way, provided of course we get an each price. She’s been a very consistent mare for Team Guy for a while now and continued that last time over the mile when closing off to run third to the in form Galtero. Good record at the track/distance and should have room for improvement.

This is a very good race for the three year olds. 9 Jami Lady (Bet Now: $4.20) looks the one though. Been on her in both career outings and she has done some good things for me and for those who have followed, most notably last time at Ipswich where she opened $3+ before starting $1.45 and bolting up in what was a 400m dash to the line. I’ll trust what I’ve seen.

Great to see 3 Plumaro (Bet Now: $4.50) back at the races. Quality filly who resumes for Kevin Kemp after a pretty solid 2YO season, which ended in the JJ Atkins behind The Autumn Sun, which is clearly A1 form. No public trials but I suspect she’s got enough brilliance to be in the finish even if she isn’t forward enough like normal horses.

1 Shamurt (Bet Now: $7.50) is a handy three year old for Tony Gollan who should be respected. He was just too bad to be true when resuming at the Sunny Coast, finishing well back behind Defence Missile, and that form has been franked. 1/1 on wet ground and at his best form, he can certainly beat these for sure.

5 Queen Of Kingston (Bet Now: $9.50) is a Daniel Bowen trained mare who deserves a crack in town. Just couldn’t finish it off two back on Lismore Cup Day before going to Ballina where she did work on speed but her class came to the fore late under a heavy ride from Matty McGuren. Harder here, but she deserves a shot at city success.

If 2 Cedarwood (Bet Now: $4.40) was fair dinkum, he’d win this by a space. That’s the sort of ability he’s got but he just doesn’t want to put it all together. Thought that would come in the Galtero race from three weeks ago where Browne seemed to give him every chance but he didn’t finish it off. He can win…but he won’t be getting my coin.

9 We Built This City (Bet Now: $11.00) is a ripper for Paul Nolan. Always tries hard, always runs well and for the most part picks up prizemoney for connections. Ran over 1350m at Ipswich last time and despite getting well back in the run, he came with a brilliant finale and proved too good for his rivals. He’ll give them a start here, but will be strong late.

BEST BET: Race Seven Number 1 Freddie Fox Trot

NEXT BEST: Race One Number 1 Guntantes

LONG SHOT: Race Five Number 3 Dream Finnish
