SA metro racing this Saturday returns to the Parks track for an eight race card. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (14:56) Medallion Homes Handicap 1000m

Back Me

2 Aristocratic Miss (Bet Now: $1.85) looks the standout. Tony McEvoy trains this filly, who was a late nomination for this race. Debuted down the straight on Cup Day and was excellent against the bias behind Setsuna. Been given a good break and bolted up in a Murray Bridge trial win last week. Looks ready to go fresh.

Danger

1 Chicago Typewriter (Bet Now: $4.80) is a Phillip Stokes trained youngster who hadn’t been seen publicly prior to the debut at Gawler (Metro) but he showed really good speed to lead them comfortably and from there on, it was pretty painless from that point on with Tourneur controlling things beautifully. Runner up won next start, so the form reads well.

Long Shot

8 Island Game (Bet Now: $10.00) is a Hinchinbrook filly on debut for the Lloyd Kennewell team. This girl hasn’t been seen at the trials, so it’s a bit of a guessing game, but the stable has one of the better strike rates in SA at getting a horse to win first up, and normally the stable does trial them, so she’s a big watch for mine.

Race 2. (15:31) Hughes Limousines Handicap (64) 1000m

Back Me

Pretty keen on 2 Wallace Street (Bet Now: $3.80). Richard Jolly trained three year old who resumed over 1050m on the course proper in early December where he did a bit of work on speed and tried hard but couldn’t hold out the finishing burst of Kibini. Should come right on from that, 1000m on the Parks track a tick and I think he’s the one to beat.

Danger

7 Thompson’s Reward (Bet Now: $3.50) looks an above average galloper in the making for the David Jolly team. Was close up on debut at Murray Bridge before racing over the 1050m on the course proper and letting down hard late to nab Yoelqui right on the peg. Trial at Murray Bridge last week was quite good and he looks ready to go.

Long Shot

8 Port Vale (Bet Now: $31.00) looks the interesting runner. Stuart Gower trains this three year old, who hasn’t raced since late August when finishing midfield in an 1100m maiden on the course proper behind Glam Guru. Comes here with no public trials under the belt, but stable can get them to fire fresh. Definite yard/market watch.

Race 3. (16:11) Holdfast Insurance Handicap 1550m

Back Me

2 Scratchy Lass (Bet Now: $6.50) was very good to me last time out so I won’t be jumping off. Was a surprise drifter in betting when racing over the 1700m at Gawler (Metro) a tick under two weeks back but with some assistance from a peach from Sairyn Fawke, the mare got the splits nearer the inside and her dash came to the fore. That may well be the case again here, so happy to be in her corner.

Danger

3 Ashlee Marie (Bet Now: $4.00) is the fascinating runner. Richard Laming trains this mare, who resumed a couple of weeks back in a midweek event a Sandown over 1400m where she was wide no cover for the trip when down the track behind Life On The Wire. Finds a very winnable race and the stable are near unbeatable when bringing horses over.

Long Shot

6 Grumpy Guru (Bet Now: $13.00) is bursting to win a race for the Dion Koch team…just keeps finding one or two better. That was the case last start over the Strathalbyn mile where I thought Holder gave the gelding every chance but he just found Downunder Prince too good despite being heavily backed. Running out of chances, but this race does lack depth.

Race 4. (16:51) UBET Handicap (90) 1950m

Back Me

5 Flow Meter (Bet Now: $8.50) is a beauty for John Hickmott who should take some beating back up in trip. He ran over 1500m at Gawler last Saturday and was a shade unlucky not to beat Hazy Lane, getting held up in the straight at a vital stage. Has a really good overall record on this track and I think up to the 1950m is a big tick.

Danger

3 Exalted Lightning (Bet Now: $2.70) is absolutely flying at the moment for the in form Grant Young team. He ran over 2100m at Gawler last Saturday where he sat near the speed most of the way under Todd Pannell and he looked to travel really well in the run, but just had no answers late for Soaring High. Has a good record here and back to 1950m no disadvantage.

Long Shot

1 Royal Request (Bet Now: $7.00) looks the clear knockout hope. Resumed with a solid fifth behind Burrum’s Buzz on the course proper here before going to the Devonport Cup last Wednesday where I thought he did a huge job in defeat. Had to go for home from the back a fair way out and by the time he got to the top of the straight, he was gassed, but he kept on. If they go at a reasonable tempo in front, don’t be surprised to see this horse blouse them.

Race 5. (17:31) James Boags Premium Handicap (70) 1300m

Back Me

6 Miss Wahoo (Bet Now: $2.25) looks one of the good things of the day. She looked a good thing when resuming on the main track on Boxing Day and Jamie Kah rode her like that, sitting wide throughout but she was far too classy for them. Looks a potential blacktype horse so with that in mind, I think she puts this lot away.

Danger

7 Rosewedge (Bet Now: $14.00) has to be respected here. Have to forgive her last start failure at Sandown. was wide no cover throughout and was gassed at the furlong behind Tagreeda, who ran well at Flemington last Saturday. Sticky draw here, but if Tourneur is able to get cover on her, I think she’ll take some holding out.

Long Shot

2 Joy Flipper (Bet Now: $11.00) was a solid first up winner over 1100m on the course proper back on Melbourne Cup Day before being freshened up and racing on Boxing Day where she was a game second to Federosa. She is a mare who likes her runs spaced, easy to see why given her outstanding fresh record. She’ll be on speed and giving a sight.

Race 6. (18:10) Schweppes Handicap (70) 1400m

Back Me

Last chance for 7 Baker’s Dozen (Bet Now: $4.80). Will Clarken trains this mare, who has more ability than most engaged here, but she has this horrible racing pattern of getting back/running on. That was the case at Gawler last Saturday when working home behind Miss Cuoco. Should sit closer from the gate and gets Finnegan steering.

Danger

2 Infinity Queen (Bet Now: $4.60) is on the seven day back up for the Ryan Balfour team after racing at Gawler last Saturday in the Miss Cuoco race mentioned above where she was an alarming drifter in betting and ran accordingly. Track was a Soft5, and I’m not sure she likes getting her feet wet, so back on firm ground here and Holder steering, she can bounce back.

Long Shot

3 Last Dip (Bet Now: $15.00) is a Darryl Carrison trained sprinter from Port Lincoln who probably is racing out of his grade but I thought he wasn’t too bad on Boxing Day behind Rupture on the main track, getting back and running on well at the end. Claim for Caboche helps and he draws to get a lovely run near the speed.

Race 7. (18:45) Holdfast Insurance Handicap (75) 1000m

Back Me

11 Swiss Design (Bet Now: $4.20) for me. Lloyd Kennewell trained son of Master Of Design who has been excellent in two runs back from a break, both over the 1050m on the course proper, winning brilliantly first up before a close up third to Midnight Storm. Trialled brilliantly here prior to resuming, so first look on the Parks track under race conditions is no concern.

Danger

They will go hard here, so 2 One More Daisy (Bet Now: $12.00) will be suited. She resumed over the 1000m at Gawler a tick under a fortnight back and just looked in need of the run behind dominant winner Danuki. Does go well second up and she tends to save her best for the Parks track. Key threat with luck in running.

Long Shot

4 Tycoon Queen (Bet Now: $27.00) looks big overs to my eye. Peter Moody trains this mare, who is first up without a public trial leading in. She can sprint well fresh, loves the Parks track and looking through her recent form, there are names like Dollar For Dollar, Fuhryk, Model Dragon…that reads so well for this. She’ll get back and charge.

Race 8. (19:20) Meegs And Rorz Get Hitched Handicap (75) 1250m

Back Me

If 4 Battlecamp (Bet Now: $5.50) turns up and is fair dinkum, he should be winning. This horse just has so much talent but upstairs, he’s a nutter. Now with Michael Hickmott and I think the encouraging thing here is that he won the trial last week without being extended, getting his confidence up. The real Battlecamp should win this. I’ll be banking on that.

Danger

3 Affray (Bet Now: $11.00) is a handy galloper that resumes for the Will Clarken. He was quite consistent throughout the Winter/Spring but just couldn’t quite greet the judge despite seemingly having his chance on several occasions. Thought he trialled up really well last week, he goes well fresh and overall, this is a very thin race. A must include for multiples.

Long Shot

9 Abu Dhabi (Bet Now: $15.00) is a talented son of I Am Invincible that resumes for the Lloyd Kennewell stable. This bloke hasn’t raced since the Carnival at Darwin where he ended the prep with a midfield effort in the Cup behind Royal Request. Resuming with no trials, but can pull out a run fresh and does have a touch of quality about him.
