20/1/2018 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Doomben

Saturday metro racing in Brisbane returns to Doomben this weekend for a nine event program. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out 4.5 metres for the entire circuit.

6 Snicki Minaj (Bet Now: $1.95) gets the nod. This Tony Gollan trained filly debuted in the Calaway Gal here on December 16 and was far from disgraced I thought behind stablemate Outback Barbie, with that form being franked in the Magic Millions. Should have finished closer that day too, so that does read well for this despite taking on the boys.

3 Clockwise (Bet Now: $5.00) is a mark Webb trained filly who was kept very safe in betting when debuting on her home track at the Sunny Coast on Boxing Day and while she only won narrowly, I thought there was a bit of merit to the win and there looked to be a bit of depth to the field too. Has the winning race experience under the belt.

2 For The Records (Bet Now: $26.00) is a Golden Archer colt on debut for the Desleigh Forster yard. This bloke has only had the one public trial, which came here last week where he went about his business quite nicely in running third. Bred to come to hand early and off the trial, he does look to have his share of talent.

2 Zahspeed (Bet Now: $2.50) does look the obvious. This horse has contested much stronger races in recent times, the last two being at blacktype where he has been okay but simply outclassed. Expecting the Fraddster to kick him forward and lead, and with the rail out on a firm Doomben surface, that’s the spot to be.

5 Slydini (Bet Now: $4.00)  is a Team Guy trained gelding who is racing in near career best form at the moment. Did a bit of work on speed when racing over 1800m at the Gold Coast two weeks ago but to his credit he gave a really good kick but was no match late for the finishing burst of Aqua Vite. I think back to the mile is a big tick and he maps super.

8 Benfica Princess (Bet Now: $7.50) is a mare on the rise for the Kelly Doughty team but I think she has earned a crack at this level. Ran over this track/distance last Wednesday and gave them a spanking under Michael Cahill, winning with a fair bit of ease in the end, albeit against inferior opposition to what she faces here. Good test but I think she can handle it.

13 Iowa (Bet Now: $3.20) on top in what looks a really thin race. This mare ran at this track/distance a couple of Wednesdays back and she worked home well but was no match for the potential blacktype performer in Savwell. That form does read quite well for this, she gets in well at the weights, draws well…ticks the boxes for me.

3 Downloading (Bet Now: $3.90) is on the quick back up for the Rob Heathcoate team after racing last Friday night at the Sunny Coast where he tried really hard from just off the speed but couldn’t hold out Really Reilly. Was accepted to run in the QTIS race on Magic Millions Day so the stable clearly thought he was going well. Mile looks a query, but he has the speed in the legs.

1 Smooth Consul (Bet Now: $11.00) has been off the boil for a few runs now, but this is the easiest race he has contested in some time. Hasn’t raced since Boxing Day at the Sunny Coast when finishing not far off Kubis in what looked a handy race. Trialled up well last week here, draws well and gets the claim for Sewell.

2 Dream Kisses (Bet Now: $4.40) on top in a tricky 3YO contest. She ran over 1200m at the Gold Coast a fortnight back where I thought Hammersley gave the filly every chance and she loomed large to win but just couldn’t hold out the heavily backed Bat A Kat. 1350m I have a question mark over, but she’s the best horse in the race.

3 Cruze (Bet Now: $2.60) gave them a galloping lesson on December 20 at the midweeks under Brad Pengilly before taking on the older horses at the Gold Coast here he was crunched late but perhaps was on the worst part of the track nearer the inside behind Plucky Girl. Happy to give him another look here back to his own age.

6 Keep Your Roses (Bet Now: $7.50) is a lovely looking filly who broke the maiden status in good style here on December 20 before going to the Bat A kat race at the Gold Coast and while she was outclassed, I thought she was far from disgraced in running fifth, beaten a length. She is the one with upside and scope.

Race looks to set up nicely for 1 Stella Ombra (Bet Now: $2.60). This horse has run in blacktype company both runs this time, the latest in the Falvelon when a close up fourth to Snitzkraft, who ran a beauty in the Magic Millions Sprint. That reads well for this. I think if Tiff Brooker gets the horse to the front, it should just about be game over.

6 Tisani Tomso (Bet Now: $6.50) looks to be racing well at the moment for the Kevin Kemp team. This old boy wasn’t far off them in the Falvelon before racing at the Sunny Coast where he beat all bar Tarzan in a race that was dominated by that horse on speed. Should get a lovely run from the gate and does meet Tarzan 1.5kg better off.

7 Bullpit (Bet Now: $8.00) hasn’t done much since coming to Queensland but he could do something here. Forget his Bribie run behind Pinch River. Was wide throughout and just did too much work from the gate. He’ll do no work from his inside draw here and if he gets clear running, he may have last say. Defintie chance at the odds.

10 Dapper One (Bet Now: $8.50) is an absolute beauty for the Les Ross team who has just been plagued by bad luck in recent times. Just got too far back two back behind Fit For Purpose before racing at this track/distance where she was wide no cover throughout yet still attacked the line when second to Stonecast. If she gets normal luck in running, I think she wins.

2 Courtza King (Bet Now: $3.20) is a relatively consistent gelding for the Tony Gollan team who ran over the 1400m at the Gold Coast a fortnight back where he had a nice sit off a slow pace and tried hard in the straight when fourth to all the way winner Plucky Girl. Run prior behind Care To Think was good and that is the best form in Queensland right now.

7 Don’t Deny Us (Bet Now: $6.00) is a son of Denman who has returned in really good order for the Rob Heathcoate team. Resumed with an eye catching third behind Viaductress before backing that up with a superb win from the back at the Gold Coast, aided by a gem from Ron Stewart. Can only see upside and 1350m no issue.

Siding with 11 Mazaz (Bet Now: $13.00). Chris Waller trains this stayer, who looks ideally suited up in trip. Just ran out of condition two back over 1800m at the Gold Coast before stepping back to the mile here and working home okay behind Godzone Girl. Does save his best for 2000m+, so 2200m is ideal, has upside and is in the right stable.

2 Kirini (Bet Now: $2.20) is a mare who is absolutely low flying at the moment for Chris Waller. Just starting to creep up in the weights now but hard to knock a mare in form. Was probably out of tickets late last time out at the Gold Coast but she did enough and held on, beating Rock On Ivy, who went on to place at Randwick, so the form has held up, and a recent tick over trial was quite good.

Want to give 3 Backbench Blues (Bet Now: $35.00) another look. Forget he went around at the Gold Coast two weeks ago. It was a rare howler from Jeff Lloyd, who had the horse three and four wide early before punching forward and doing a mountain of work and eventually finishing tailed off last. Runs prior were good. if that hasn’t busted him, and he gets a more economical run here, he can go close.

9 Of The Day (Bet Now: $7.50) is a mare I’m giving one more chance to. She has had three runs back from a break, all of which have been at blacktype level against the mares and for the most part she has run well, but just hasn’t quite measured up. This does look her level and I think she should take some beating.

4 Oink (Bet Now: $8.00) was an alarming drifter in betting when resuming over the 1200m at the Gold Coast four weeks back and the market got it right as he settled off the speed and couldn’t come on at all behind Perfect Dare. Been freshened up and looked to trial well at Deagon. Back to Doomben I think a big tick also.

Knockout chance is clearly 6 Land Office (Bet Now: $10.00). He comes through the Falvelon behind Snitzkraft where he was wide most of the way and finished down the track. I think 1200m is exactly what he is looking for and there appears to be a stack of speed engaged. If he sits out the back off it, he may have last say.

5 Double Superlative (Bet Now: $6.00) can be a hard horse to catch at times, but if he brings his best, I think he is right in this. Resumed at this track/distance on January 3 and was perhaps ridden a touch too close to the speed when finishing worse than midfield behind Gregory. With a more patient steer, I think he’ll be more effective here.

13 Lyricist (Bet Now: $7.00) is a Toby Edmonds trained mare that resumes here. She had a three run Winter prep and ran well without winning in a couple of races which had depth to them, as well as subsequent winning form. Goes well fresh and has been quite impressive to my eye in a couple of barrier trials. Looks ready to go.

22 Madluce Missile (Bet Now: $34.00) looks a progressive type for the Chris Anderson and with the scratchings, he gains a start and I think he is a knockout chance. Defied a betting drift last time out at Ipswich and absolutely bolted in under Jackson Murphy. Probably gains with Boris Thornton taking over, and with his 3kg claim, the horse gets in very well at the weights.

NEXT BEST: Race Three Number 13 Iowa

VALUE: Race Seven Number 11 Mazaz
